  1. The Goins fanboys/girls would hate this forum, that's for sure. I mean, Zeke annoyed the hell out of me, but at least he had some decent qualities (good obp last year). Goins was absolute trash aside from the last two months of 2015. Never been so happy at a non tender before.
  2. Goins is awful and I'm still annoyed at the pop up he dropped in Game 2 of the ALCS when Price was dealing. No love from me. Although, he's a Royal now, so a .418 BABIP and .335 average is the only logical 2018 season for him.
  3. Posters here were ready to drop 3-4 years for Lynn, and he gets 1/12. Lol. Damn the market has cratered.
  4. I don't think it's tanking like the NBA teams do, but for whatever reasons teams are not really trying to improve, especially via free agency where there are bargains left and right. There's about 7 teams that look like they will be really good (Astros, Yankees, Red Sox, Indians, Cubs, Dodgers, Nats), and then a massive drop off of teams that range from possibly decent (Jays, Angels, Cards), to middling to awful. Whether that is by design or just the way it is for now is another question. Some teams clearly do not care, others may just have no other alternative.
  5. The way teams are assessing value now has definitely changed. You can get two win players for around $5m now. I wonder how the market will look next year. The big guys will get their money, but the mid and lower tier guys will be interesting to watch.
  6. There are a lot of s*** teams in baseball right now. Too many teams are not giving a s*** about 2018. I guess it's good for the Jays if they want to sneak into the playoffs so whatever.
  7. My goal with this front office is that we can somehow become what the Cardinals use to be. Lose a star, replace him internally, don't miss a beat. That's probably a long shot if we lose JD, unless Vladdy becomes a beast right away, but with so many teams looking to tank over the next little while, the Jays could find themselves reasonably competitive during their post JD retool/transition. I think 87 is a bit optimistic as well, though. WOuld love for it to happen though. One game playoff, even on the road, with Stro and his douchiness on the mound, and I'll take my chances.
  8. Hoarding relievers actually can work though because the position is so volatile that it's hard to predict performance year to year. If you hoard starters and position players, then that's a different story. Obviously if Mayza looks awesome and the vets look like s***, then you make adjustments from there, but that's the whole point of depth in the pen.
  9. Sickels top 20 prospect list for the Jays is up. https://www.minorleagueball.com/2018/3/8/17097712/toronto-blue-jays-top-20-prospects-for-2018
  10. With depth being a major point of emphasis, all the RP's with options left will likely be sent down aside from the locks (Osuna, Tepera, Oh, Barnes, and Loup). Might as well look to see if Clippard, Alb, etc, have anything to offer. I'm not expecting anything except major suckage out of Axford so not a big fan if he ends up making it, but then again relievers are so unpredictable that who knows who can have a good couple of months out there.
  11. The only way Morales would be useful off the bench is if they Colabello'd him and used him at 1B and LF. That would be a disaster, but the alternative is sticking a DH-only in a bench spot where he'd have essentially no value. I think the Jays are just going to bite the bullet and play him everyday hoping he has a bounce back year. Otherwise they should have cut bait a long time ago.
  12. Solarte has one cheap year and two cheap option years, while Walker probably wouldn't sign for more than a year since he may want to hit the market again next year. The Jays would probably prefer Solarte for that reason. I'd still sign him though. Screw it. Tulo is done, and Travis is unreliable. The Jays have enough AB's to go around.
  13. If the Jays wanted to improve on Morales for cheap cost, they could have done that all winter. Pretty much every 1B/DH type was a steal this off season. Unfortunately the Jays don't seem to want to dump him, so we just have to hope he's a good hitter in 2018 and 2019.
  14. The M's are basically the Jays from 1994-2014 and have been for years. Directionless, going through the motions. The 2nd WC should make it easier for them to avoid 21 years without the PO, but who knows.
  15. Considering Diaz has five more years of control, that would be amazing. I don't expect Tulo to play much at all this season (he's damaged goods and toast as a hitter) so Diaz will get plenty of opportunities.
  16. I like the idea of a payroll floor. Teams have to spend a certain amount every year or they are penalized. The issue is getting the owners to agree to it. The PA has F'ed the players for years and years. The owners/teams are just taking advantage of it. There has to be a systematic change. You can't force teams to spend when they don't have to. The NBA forces teams to spend. That's where MLB will have to follow.
  17. Luckily this season Tepesch will be behind Biagini, Borucki, Pannone, and McGuire on the depth chart, so if he starts a game it will be if the season goes completely off the rails, but dude still sucks. If he is just a warm body in AAA to help Buffalo then that's fine.
  18. If I ever see Tepesch start for the Jays in a regular season game again I’m going to vomit.
  19. Delgado was such a great hitter. That 2003 team looked so promising, but the pitching was ass.
  20. Getting $1.6m back by getting rid of Zeke, especially in this market when you can get a reliever like Oh for around that amount, is desirable. No sense keeping him around when the team already has four projected outfielders in AAA. Even if Grichuk has to miss some time, it's not like Zeke makes a ton of difference.
  21. Yeah the only reason bat flips are being talked about today is because of Bautista. I don't recall much hoopla about it before 2015 other than the occasional triggering of Brian McCann and his types.
  22. Trump supporter and conservative are not the same thing.
  23. Baseball needs to attract millennials and younger to the game. It's not going to happen by continuing to be viewed as the "old white man's game". Bat flips, home runs, celebrations, personalities.....there needs to be more of that. Brian McCann can go cry in a corner.
  24. Or Morrison and Dyson. Oh well. Time for Kendrys to prove the haters wrong and make use of dat exit velocity and launch angle or whatever analytics reasons he was signed. His exit velocity was still elite last season despite his poor performance, so maybe there is hope.
  25. For the money the Jays are paying Morales, how many projected wins could they have added in free agency? 2? 3?
