  1. Out of the question--Texas is at $171.354M(based on the CBT payroll) and can't take on any more money.
  2. Nope. Avila's ordered payroll to be slashed in Detroit, so forget it. Plus, V-Mart and Cabrera are blocking his spots at 1B and DH. Plus, Detroit is too far over the tax to even think about making a move for Edwin.
  3. Zero chance that happens. Sox only made the deal to get under the tax. Dombrowski is indicating no deals are imminent.
  4. It's freaking December 12th dang it! There's still many free agents on the market. And the Yankees are not better.. the Chapman deal was more looking at the long term toward 2019. The team's still far short in the rotation and there are no guarantees on their prospects, and they're only slightly better than the Jays according to Fangraphs, and likely won't contend. As for the Red Sox.. let's not forget they destroyed a lot of their depth in the Sale/Thornburg trades. If injuries strike, this team will be in serious trouble due to a lack of depth(especially in the middle infield and 3B and possibly OF), not to mention there's questions how much the loss of Ortiz will hurt. Moreland's a huge downgrade. And how long will Sale's elbow hold up? Edwin and Bautista are still unsigned, and it's possible one of them resigns with Toronto because their market (likely Bautista's) cratered due to a glut of DH/1B types.
  5. Not gonna happen. He doesn't play OF (a spot of need for the O's), and they don't have that kind of financial flexibility when they owe a ton of money in arb raises to Tillman, Machado, Britton, Brach, Schoop..
  6. Mariners unlikely with Vogelbach and Valencia manning 1B and limited financial flexibility, and I can't see Cleveland actually making a competitive bid..
  7. Rangers out on Edwin--not surprising after giving Gomez that money, plus the fact they don't want to block Joey Gallo and need pitching more than anything, plus they're still paying part of Fielder's deal (Tigers and medical insurance for Fielder's neck injury are paying the rest)
  8. But how are they going to score without any big bats?
  9. The problem is that Washington doesn't have a lot of flexibility.. remember, they have that HEAVILY backloaded Scherzer deal ($42.1M in 2019!) and Strasburg deal ($38M in 2019 as well!) and the roster is set to be torn apart after 2018 (Murphy, Werth, Harper are free agents after that season).. it's going to be a ****ing mess in Washington after the 2018 season unless they find a way to keep Harper.
  10. Forget it. With Zimmerman still there at 1B in Washington, it's not happening..
  11. Sorry to say, but based on recent stories of teams "winning" the offseason, the Astros are still a risk to miss the playoffs if they don't add pitching depth and McCann/Reddick/Beltran don't decline further. And I imagine Texas and Seattle are also loading up as well..
  12. 1. Salvador Perez says hi.. he forced the Royals to redo his contract. Expect the Astros to be forced to do the same thing--$6M in 2018 and $6.5M in 2019 is likely to get the Astros in trouble with the MLB Player's Association..Altuve should be making $20M+/year NOW.. 2. Actually, he's making a projected $4.7M in 2017--he'll likely more than double that in 2017 if he performs as well or better.
  13. The problem is more how Edwin will age--and it's questionable to hand $23M/year to a DH/1B type who may not age well.. look at the Chris Davis and Ryan Howard deals!
  14. Bad idea. More likely they attempt to move Springer to CF than trade him.. don't forget, they already have spent tons on Reddick, McCann, Morton, etc... and they still have gaping holes in CF, bench and the bullpen. Plus, those young players are about to get expensive--Altuve hits free agency in 2019, and will likely demand a new contract NOW than waiting until 2019 after his options are exercised.. he is woefully underpaid, and will likely demand a trade if Houston doesn't give him a raise after next season. He should be one of the top-paid players in the game.. and Springer's arb eligible this offseason, and could easily get an 8-figure deal when he hits 2nd year arb.. and no way they're trading Gurriel or Bregman.
  15. It's not funny--Astros ownership has not allowed for a $100M payroll in many years, and I can't see them suddenly handing a huge contract to a guy like Edwin when they have many other needs (CF and both relief and starting pitching).
  16. Besides, Astros ownership would likely block any deal like that--it's not certain they have the financial wherewithal to take a contract like that yet.. especially when they soon have to pay their core (Altuve's a free agent after 2019 and likely to see his salary quadruple at minimum, Springer's about to get expensive, and they need pitching..)
  17. No more Thole! Jays outrighted him and he declared free agency. Now we can get a real backup catcher..
  18. We do not lose our first rounder for resigning our own players. Only if we sign a QO'd player from another team we'd lose a pick.
  19. Nice to hear some competent announcers for once.. though I wonder if Buck is drunk tonight like he is with the Jays broadcasts..
  20. We have money to bring in pieces and/or resign Bautista/Edwin. And remember, we still have Donaldson back next year and 2018.
  21. At least we made it to the ALCS--that's a lot more than the Red Sox can say. It's amazing that a banged up Cleveland team managed to take down 2 AL East teams.
  22. Cleveland wins the pennant. And the Jays once again can't get past the ALCS for the 5th time in franchise history.. Tribe head off to try to finally win a World Series.. hoping to avoid the chokes of 1995 and 1997.. two very strong, deep teams that lost to Atlanta(only World Series Atlanta has ever won) and Miami (then the Florida Marlins).
  23. And don't rule out the Sox making a run at Cespedes as well--Dombrowski had him in Detroit, where he put up strong numbers, plus the chance Boston trades Bradley + top prospects for a top tier pitcher like Sonny Gray or Chris Sale. As for Trumbo, he'll cost less than Edwin since he only broke out this year..
  24. Don't forget they hold a $13.5M option on Buchholz, which will more than likely be exercised due to the lack of depth on the free agent market and the Sox's lack of pitching in the minor league system above A+ ball. There's also a chance they try to bring back Rich Hill.. but it'll cost Boston a ton.
  25. Jays and Rangers are likely the best fits for Edwin. Red Sox aren't exactly in a position to offer a long term deal, as Ortiz's retirement will be offset by significant arb raises--current projections according to Baseball-Reference have the Sox at the projected $200M luxury tax (with benefits).. and needing bullpen help, a SP, possibly a catcher (going with Leon/Vazquez for a full year is a bad idea--they need a real starter, possibly like Wieters), and depth--Red Sox are not a deep team with all the trades and graduations of prospects. Plus, Betts and Bogaerts are due major raises in the coming years. I expect Boston to go after a short term option like Napoli or Beltran, who can at least back up at 1B(Napoli) or the corner OF(Beltran). Especially when they have Moncada, Sam Travis and Devers in the system--both Devers and Moncada are too valuable to trade, especially considering the long term holes at 3B and possibly 1B(if Devers doesn't last at 3B)
