  1. Sorry to interrupt this Marlins/AA thread idea with an idea of my own. AA is going to be the GM of the Montreal Rays. Rays cant draw any attendance, cant get a new stadium built. Obvious team move. A Montreal team in the ALE would create a huge rivalry. Cash would be flowing across Canada. Obviously this would also require a new stadium built in Montreal, so its not happening immediately. Have a nice vacation AA.
  2. at the time of signing there was no Discount at all on either. Neither player had shown any consistency, and in fact Edwin had been DFA a couple of times. AA took a flyer on both players, offered them contracts that set both players for life, and both happily accepted. it turned out to be great signings for both players, and AA. It was win/win.
  3. Yeh I agree. Pen needs another top line LHP. If Loup doesn't get his sh-t together he will find himself on another team. Cecil cant pitch every game as the lone reliable lefty out of the pen.
  4. Its speculated that Flowers will sign a contract as a 1st string catcher with some team. That may bring 5 mill + judging by what Navarro just got. Flowers hits more like J.P Arencibia, than Goins, .200 with a bunch of HR/SO. he was Chris Sales personal catcher so he must call/catch a good game. If Flowers is going to cost that much, you can get a relief pitcher for that much $$.
  5. With the Jays dominance of LHP, does it matter?
  6. Thole had some decent batting results when he was getting more playing time in New York. There, he was much more than just RA.s personal catcher. Playing every 5th day has to be tough.
  7. Maybe time to revive this thread. Padres looking for SP in return and may be willing to pay part of salary remaining. Sheilds is still putting up 200 innings of decent starts. He is still healthy, and the remainder of his contract is only 3 years. To sign any of the 2nd tier SP on the FA market right now, it may take more years and more $$ to sign one, plus they may not end up producing any more than Shields. Dickey or Hutch back may get the job done?
  8. When I first saw this deal for Happ, I thought OK, we can use a #5 starter and win a good number of games with the offence in the current lineup. Happ keeps the team in the game more often than not. Since then, I have come to think that Happ will improve simply because of how good our team Defence is now. Happ had a career era of 4.12 as a SP. Which is slightly better than average. Assuming that the great team defence could save half a run each game, we could be looking at 3.60 era from Happ. Now combine that with MLB top scoring offence, we should see a ton of wins in games he starts. Last year Happ pitched 7 innings 7 times, and 6+ innings 11 times. He has continued to keep his team in the game. Happ is not David Price, but he could turnout to be a 15 to 16 game winner next year.
