I don't think so. I think he'll be called up replace the least effective starter as long as it's not early enough to start his arbitration clock ( I guess June 1st - ish).
I remember when I was a kid in hospital I, and the other kids, was visited by a group of athletes including Ferguson Jenkins and some current CFL players (Roger Aldag, Polecat Boley and others). It was really cool. It certainly had an impact. I wasn't a baseball fan until I met Ferguson. I remember his fingers looked like they were a foot long.
I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic here, but I think this is really a good move. He's had some good numbers and would be a good replacement in case of injury.
Man, this pitching rotation will be fun to watch. Results could be horrible, but I'd much rather watch Dustin and Hutch pitch than Happ and Redmond. Dickey is always entertaining to watch pitch (love the knuckleball) and MB is fun to watch, given his machine-like speed in working. This'll be great.
I disagree. If Kratz goes down, we have Thole.
If Ohka gets up to AAA, we have Thole.
Thole can be the second catcher in AAA once Jimenez stays healthy and plays full time.
If we could recoup that $1.2M right now? Does that mean we sign Santana when he was FA? Ubaldo? Nope, it means Rogers isn't out as much. Thole isn't blocking anyone like Izturis is (Kawasaki) or eating up millions like RR and Happ. Apples and oranges.
Thole isn't dead weight, what's he making, $800K? He's depth at a hard spot to find depth and he catches Dickey. He'll maybe end up catching Ohka in the minors staying sharp for Dickey in the show. That's not nearly as useless as Romero and Happ. Or expensive. Romero and Happ cost the Jays a premium free agent and maybe 2-4 WAR.
I am wagering Happ gets put on DL. He can save a little face, help the org out, etc. etc.
What was his velocity, anyone know? He should be around 91-92 mph.
It sort of reminds me when the Jays had millions in BJ Ryan (done like dinner) and Thomas (cut). What was that for, $10M combined? With Romero and Happ, and I'll throw in Izturis, it's like ~ $15M. But at least they are all still in the org.
95% sure that will happen. He doesn't have the work in. That will give the Jays a better chance to sneak someone through on waivers when they need to demote one of the middling guys they don't want to lose.
I think I want Hutch, MB, and Dickey going every 5 days.
What I'd rather see, is Dickey pitch every 3 starts instead of a 6-man rotation. Old school knucklers could do it. I'm not sure if Dickey could, because he throws in the 80s.
I'm with you. 50/50 chance it blows up, but the reward would be sooo cool. I saw him pitch in Seattle just weeks before he started getting hurt. He and Marcum seemed so good. It'd be nice to see him do this thing. Today helped. If Happ starts in the rotation it won't make any sense.
