  1. Let's give the front office a little more credit. They dive way deeper than that. With the biggest and best scouting network ever assembled, I think it looks something like this: 10*speed + 5*power + 3*glove + .1*hit + 35*vetrinpresentz = win!
  2. Yes but I remember Jeter diving into the crowd and making a nice grab, Alomar catching a flare deep behind first base, and Delmon Young throwing someone out trying to stretch a single to a double; therefore they are all spectacular fielders. /thread
  3. OK... Still doesn't make either one a lock for 1.5 WAR, which is what the poster was claiming for Goins.
  4. I don't think you know what "pretty much a 1.5 WAR season" means.
  5. So stupid. There's no way us, the Angels, Pirates, etc. couldn't have beaten that offer. Something real strange about that deal.
  6. Exactly. That's why no one ever go from the Yankees to the Red Sox or vice versa..... wait...
  7. I'd be very happy if Stroman became a healthier version of post 2010 Cueto. Not sure if their arsenal matches up or not, as I'd expect Stroman to miss more bats, but if he could average somewhere around a 3.50 FIP/xFIP over 30 starts, that would be awesome.
  8. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, I'm saying Gibby won't do it and AA wouldn't let it happen. Even if they both wanted to, Jose would probably pound his chest until he got his way.
  9. No chance Bautista, the "leader" or "captain" of this team, is moved to LF for Gardner or Gose. I'll give you Pillar and Sierra, but I'd gamble on Gose being at least 15 runs worse offensively than Melky if they were given equal PA.
  10. A LF/CF of Gardner and Gose would probably save 30 runs a year. Too bad Gose's bat might be worth -20.
  11. I think if they didn't already set that record with Ibanez and Morse last year, they won't have to worry about getting it this year.
  12. How about your mom cause she really knows how to handle my bitchin' staff.
  13. Actually, in the show he fools around, misses the shot, and then gets beat up by the boom box brigade. Hopefully for the Brewers' sake he is better at pitching than at shooting hoops.
  14. I think that's more for FA's than buying out your own prospect's arbitration years plus some FA years on top. If the Jays ever produce a player worthy of extending past 5 years, I doubt AA would pass up the chance for 6+ on a team friendly deal. Say what you want about his scouting/trading/development/drafting, he hasn't signed a single contract that I would deem bad. (Happ's might be the worst, but 9M over 2 years is hardly egregious) I could see a Lawrie extension coming that would go over 5 years.
  15. This is exactly the kind of pitcher we need. High GB%, making a non-egregious amount of money, with high upside, fairly limited risk (depending on how much lube Beane decides to use on AA).
  16. Head of Statistical Analysis for the Philadelphia Phillies. Amaro - "I'm thinking about bringing back Delmon Young. We need some more power from our corner OF's." AA - "Hey Ruben I think that's a smart move, his OPS is 30 points above league average." Amaro - "I don't know what you nerds are talking about, but thanks for the heads up Alex."
  17. No matter how much I agree with your post, I cringe at the thought of AA making another deal with Luhnow.
  18. I'd say take anyone in the Jays organization who can throw a baseball and try them as a starter over the offseason (not regular season). There's no downside really.
  19. Always liked Niemann as a pitcher if he could ever stay healthy, but if the Rays couldn't get anything out of him I can't see how we would be able to. And thoughts on Ruggiano as a DH platoon partner with Lind / 4th OF? Career .360 wOBA vs L, 127 wRC+, and that's on a .287 BABIP. Better than Old Man Derosa.
  20. This is true. Cecil, Delabar, Loup, etc. have all come back to earth. On the flip side, a pretty good lefty reliever in Scott Downs gets you Cory Rasmus, so it's hard to imagine the Jays getting any significant value back in a trade. I'm still surprised Oliver wasn't dealt for a D prospect/cash, but I can sort of understand hanging on to some of these guys if there's just no market for them.
  21. Exactly. We already have three quality players who can play 3B, and none at 2B. I can't imagine EE or Jose at 2B (super lulz at EE there), but I can see LAwrie there easy. I think it makes perfect sense. Easier to fill a hole with an in house candidate than to let AA overpay to fill it.
  22. Disagree vehemently if he can handle the position. Lawire at 2 and EE/Jose at 3 is better than Lawrie at 3 and Izturis/Boni/Kawasaki at 2.
  23. They said today on McCown that Lawrie was playing 2nd... Anything to read into here? I think it's a great idea to put him at 2 and then slide Jose/Edwin to 3. That leaves Colby, Melky, and Jose/Rajai in the OF with EE/Lind DH. Should solve some of the 2B issue, provided Lawrie can handle it with the glove and the stick.
