  1. But there is a special Rule 5 condition To prevent the abuse of the Rule 5 draft, the rule also states that the draftee must be active for at least 90 days. This keeps teams from drafting players, then placing them on the disabled list for the majority of the season. For example, if a Rule 5 draftee was only active for 67 days in his first season with his new club, he must be active for an additional 23 days in his second season to satisfy the Rule 5 requirements.

  3. The Astros really need a closer ... I wonder what the Astros would be willing to trade for Osuna
  4. Agreed ... and if he does not accept the Jays would get a compensatory pick after Competitive Balance Round B (~ 75-80) As such, makes sense to trade Donaldson if prospects are 'rated' more valuable than above compensatory pick
  5. Has anyone heard any rumors about the Jays spending their extra $71,855 on Hiatt (Round 16) or Lopez (Round 21)? The Jays could use this $71,855 to sign any remaining player including Hiatt or Lopez for $196,855
  6. Is Groshans injured? Not playing today, didn't play yesterday and was removed from June 25 game
  7. In his draft analysis Jim Callis had this to say about Groshams 12. Toronto Blue Jays: SS Jordan Groshans, Magnolia (Texas) HS Groshans has some of the best raw power in this Draft, and what I really like about it is he knows he doesn't have to sell out for home runs. He makes a lot of hard contact, and there's room to add a lot of strength to his 6-foot-4 frame, so he's gonna do a lot of damage. Groshans may get the opportunity to play shortstop as he breaks into pro ball, but he projects as a third baseman in the long run.
  8. Has anyone seen any recent news on Lourdes Gurriel ? Is he close to returning from his injury?
  9. Wilner was on Blair's show today He said if Fowler goes to another team, the Jays should get Eaton ... said that Alford + Greene should get it done I personally don't think that would enough
  10. Pearce provides great flexibility ... last year in 83 games he played: 1st - 41 2nd - 15 O/F - 12 3rd - 2 D/H - 13
  11. I agree ... Eaton would be a great addition
  12. Here is a good article explaining the QO system, including the compensation rules http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/11/list-of-players-set-to-receive-qualifying-offers.html
  13. Christian Yelich would even be better ... Miami needs starting pitching so - Stroman + ? for Yelich Hopefully the ? would not be much
  14. Does anyone know what type of injury Reid-Foley has and how serious it is?
  15. I remember listening to PrimeTime that day. The next day McGowan suggested trading Travis (his reasoning being the Jays had lots of depth at middle infield - Goins + Barney ?) for a 4th/5th starter and was surprised when Shulman did not agree with him. Shulman said if the Jays really wanted to get a 4th/5th starter he would prefer to trade some prospects rather than Travis. I don't think McGowan realizes that Goins is a AAA player and Barney is a bench player who can fill in for starters to give them a day off
  16. Totally agree ... I wish he would have been healthy last year. Jays might have beaten Royals if Travis was in the line-up
  17. I would rather sign Encarnacion to a 3 or 4 year deal ... Pretty sure the Jays will not want to or can afford to sign both to long term (3 years or more) deals ... BUT I would offer Bautista a QO (maybe he would accept but I doubt it)
  18. Fangraphs has a good write-up ... http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/evaluating-the-2016-prospects-pittsburgh-pirates/
  19. Anyone know how serious Tellez's injury is? I think he was in a collision at 1st base and is now on the DL
  20. Harris has not given up an ER since his first start of the year on April 9 I can remember so many posters writing him off as bust after 2015's short season and his first start of this year
  21. Anyone know how serious Alford's leg injury is? I see he is the 7 day DL
  22. I think this is a great plan ... long term Osuna would benefit the Jays the most as a starter so why not move him to the rotation next spring This year it made sense to leave him in the bullpen to recover from TJ surgery
  23. As I understand it ... a player must be on the active 25 man roster at midnight August 31 (there are exceptions ... DL players like Stroman) Per Wikipedia ... To be eligible for a team's postseason roster, a player must be on any of the following: (a) the active 25-man roster ( the disabled list, © the bereavement list, or (d) the suspended list as of August 31 at midnight ET.[1] The only exception is that a player who is on the disabled list at the end of the regular season may be replaced on the postseason roster by any other player who was in the organization on August 31, with the approval of the commissioner of baseball.[2] All players on the team's roster during the season will be eligible to receive a World Series ring after the team wins the World Series.
  24. I am a little surprised that Pompey was not recalled on August 31 (to replace Carrera) as then he would be eligible for the post season. As the 4th outfielder he would provide better defense and the ability to steal bases as a pitch hitter. Not sure how the rules work if Carrera would have to be DFA on August 31 and as such, the Jays could risk losing him (he could be helpful in September) Post season roster rules ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_transactions
