  1. Will definitely boo because how dare he
  2. When I read the title of the thread, my first thought was "No wayyy, they're gonna mic the infield during the game?!?" This is far more stupid
  3. Worrying about class sizes and simultaneously ignoring that the unions are plundering and pillaging the US and Canadian systems is kind of similar to if the Jays in 2012 were to focus all their efforts on upgrading Rasmus in CF rather than the problems everywhere else. Sure, maybe you find an upgrade over a 1.8 WAR CF (at great cost) and it will help, but you really need to focus on other problems when you're rocking guys like JP Arencibia, Kelly Johnson, Ricky Romero, and Aaron Laffey.
  4. A lot of very good teachers (and administrators) out there are underpaid. The majority are overpaid though; just look no further than the current oversupply of teachers in Ontario as evidence. Lots of anecdotal evidence too from this thread. Even the teaching-sucks-woe-is-me poster agrees there is an oversupply. Thus is the nature of the union: it crushes all until a mediocre equilibrium is achieved.
  5. Baseball guys get vacations during the season? That seems so weird, they already have most of November to April off.

Not sure why there's so much Tank talk this year, the benefits of tanking are smaller than ever based on the new draft lottery rules. If the Leafs finish dead last, they do have the best chance of any team to draft Matthews, but they are still most likely to end up drafting 4th. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=728795 Not sure if I need to recalculate the odds after each subsequent pick, but to keep things simple: (1-0.2)*(1-0.135)*(1-0.115) = 61% chance that the last place team drafts 4th. Am I looking at this wrong? Seems like teams should just play and work hard on developing the players and the system and let the standings fall wherever they may. If they end up being only the 5th worst team or something like that, so be it.
  7. If there's one thing we can pretty much all agree on, it's much better to have a Jew in charge of payroll and operations than it is to have a Greek.
  8. I'm trying to separate my desire for retribution from how I feel about this. I've been so bitter about the Dickey trade for years that a big part of me wants to see AA punished for it even to this day. At the same time, I believe AA has been slowly getting better and does indeed learn from his mistakes. The Price trade looks terrible now as well (and really that was going to happen with anything less than a WS), but I don't think it was nearly as bad. AA at least correctly assessed that the team was better than their record and gave up a top prospect but one that was showing warts at least. The Donaldson trade was stellar. Martin signing was very good. The Revere trade was defensible, the Tulowitzki trade was defensible (although I have a slight Reyes 2.0 vibe from him). There's a lot of recent good here. So in the end, a part of me is saying "f*** you" to AA, but if I'm objective and take emotion out of it: this is bad. When you invest in a person who has lot of upside and good attributes, but is lacking in experience, you have to ride it out for a while. Seems like we're letting him go just as he's starting to come into his own. Granted, I don't know the full details. Maybe the Jays put something very reasonable in front of him and he rejected it because he completely overrates himself, who knows.
  9. After what I have seen this post season, I could see Gibby doing that. He talked to Jim Leyland you know, and he is prepared to face the criticism afterwards. We won't know because Price will get the job done and the bats will be adequate. GO JAYS, YOU GOT THIS
  10. The Blue Jays will win this series DO IT Team of Destiny
  11. Great, so if we end up beating the Royals, we either get: -Endless talk about the Cubs World Series drought and references to Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox and the prophecy -Endless talk about the Dickey/Syndergaard-D'Arnaud trade Just gotta win and make whoever it is irrelevant!
  12. Oh yaaaa, big win boys, that was intense. Bautista's home run was my favourite sports moment in well over a decade. Goins sucked at the plate over the series but wow, his D came through large last night. Nice work by Stroman. And now obligatory FU's: Great big FU to the Texas Rangers and especially these stupid-face players, just because they have such stupid faces: -Cole Hamels -Delino Deshields -Rugned Odor -Jeff Banister Especially Banister, God what a smug ******* he is. Just look at him. I think I spent 40 minutes over the course of the series watching him argue with umpires. Great big FU to Dyson and Kela for being such poor sports 'cuz they got rocked. The Jays will beat you, don't pick fights. You'll have an opportunity to throw at them next year, and I'm sure you will because you'll still be butthurt I'm guessing. Great big FU to major league baseball. Failing to overturn that call at 2nd base in game 2 has turned your replay system into a kangaroo court. You're allowed to piece together what happened based on multiple replay angles you know. There was clearly a good 3-4 inches between his foot and the base when you consider the motion of his whole leg. You went full-retard last night with the Choo/Martin incident. The spirit of the rule is not intended to cover a batter putting their bat right in the catcher's throwing path. MLB rules weren't intended odd Asian rituals at the plate. Seriously, who holds their bat like that? When there's no rule for something, you use common sense. Bring on the Royals. So many stupid-face players on that team too... oh Gosh I won't be able to keep track.
  13. I agree. And to add to it, it's no different than if a pitcher pointed at the ball after a strikeout yelling "Shooter!!" like Shooter McGavin. Celebration is fine; I have no issue with Robbie Alomar raising his hands or a pitcher pumping his fist. There's something about bat-flipping though... it is not a natural celebration, it is an in-your-face celebration, a f***-you celebration. I bat-flipped this summer one time but only because I hated the opponent and wanted them to feel disrespected. Kinda like how Bautista always does it with the Orioles. Granted not every bat flip is meant to be disrespectful, but mehh.. it still comes off that way every time. Gomez should get plunked next year. Rasmus was more subtle and probably gets a pass just because you can't plunk everyone. If this keeps up, we're all going to start bat flipping like Koreans: http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--iZOZCRWU--/c_scale,fl_progressive,q_80,w_800/1209137568151834001.gif
  14. Whoa whoa whoa... why are they letting a woman talk?
  15. Long live the Toronto Blue Jays
  16. That's a pretty reasonable amount for tickets, I can't imagine paying 300 CAD for upper bowl either. What's that like 5-10x face value? At some point it's more desirable to just find a bar near Yonge St and watch it with your closest friends, with a decent meal you can eat on an actual table, with easy and quick access to beer, an easily accessible toilet, and instant replay on the TV. Plus, I discovered last weekend that sitting in those little seats at the Dome during a sell-out as a 200lb adult isn't as easy as when you're 11 years old kid. The price is driven up because it seems like a once-in-a-lifetime event. The Jays should have a solid playoff-capable roster next year and things look OK for the future as well with Shapiro at the helm. About 6 or 7 years ago, I bought a playoff ticket for literally half its face value to a Detroit Redwings vs. Dallas Stars conference game at Joe Louis Arena. Pretty much everyone in Detroit was used to making the playoffs every year and it wasn't that big a deal any more. Not saying that will happen here as well, but there is definitely a euphoria that won't last if the Jays remain competitive. The tickets may indeed go for $300 anyway, and that's fine of course if that's what people are willing to pay. I wouldn't be too surprised really.
  17. In my 30's and I suppose so. I occasionally listen to 97.7 out of Niagara or 103.3 out of Buffalo if that helps. They seem like they occasionally play new music.
  18. This marketing was completely ineffective on me, I probably have seen this commercial hundreds of times and had no idea until now that there is something called "Spotify". I still have no idea what it does and yet I'm 100% certain I don't need it because this commercial is, in fact, stupid. And the song sucks. Somewhat related, the Shomi commercials can burn for eternity. This show "Empire" that we're getting pummeled with lately looks awful. I don't buy this effeminate gangster as the main character and I don't want to see his lackey's parade around in a low-rent rehash of Entourage.
  19. Yeah, I didn't think it was a home run either when I watched the replay. Not sure if there's any special ground rules at Boston for this but I remember seeing a fluky one at Roger's Center a long time ago that hit exactly at the top-corner and it bounced back into play for a double. The wall is thicker at Fenway so not sure if there's a different rule.
  20. Awesome finish! Good to see Dickster getting it done. Pillar was so unlucky on that lineout to KFP in the 8th. Didn't particularly like Bautista's body language when he flew out in the 10th. He looked like he was pulling a Lawrie and being pissy because he didn't get an RBI. Otherwise let's beat these chumps once more and have a nice lead heading into NY.
  21. Lindor... what kind of a name is that? It sounds like an Adam Lind nickname.
