  1. Im glad we didnt take that deal, but happier the Mets get shafted yet again. LOL
  2. MLB, MLBPA Agree To Move Tender Deadline Up To November 30 By Anthony Franco | November 23, 2021 at 8:57pm CDT Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association have agreed to move this year’s deadline for teams to tender contracts to arbitration-eligible players up from December 2 to November 30 at 8:00 pm EST, according to reports from Robert Murray of FanSided and Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic (Twitter links). The decision moves the tender deadline before the expiration of the current collective bargaining agreement, which is scheduled to happen at 11:59 pm EST on December 1. If a new agreement is not reached within the next eight days, it’s generally expected that the league would institute a lockout and subsequent transactions freeze. The MLBPA recently put together a 36-page document outlining the potential parameters of a lockout for players and their representatives, according to a report from Evan Drellich and Rosenthal. Leaving the tender deadline on December 2 would’ve left arbitration-eligible players in a state of limbo over the course of a potential transactions freeze. Many could’ve been left with uncertainty about whether their current clubs intended to bring them back next season while awaiting a bargaining process that could take weeks or months to resolve. Against that backdrop, the final few hours of the current CBA could present a hectic time for teams eager to finalize moves before the potential transactions freeze. Certain players, meanwhile, might feel pressure to sign contracts for 2022 rather than risk having to linger in free agency over the course of a lockout and face a potential rushed free agent period were CBA negotiations to linger near or into next year’s Spring Training. By forcing teams to make the final call on their arbitration-eligible players early, some non-tendered options could look to catch on with a new club on December 1 and avoid that uncertainty altogether.
  3. I would not say equal at all, even though they both brought a 1st championship to Toronto, Gillick built it from ground up and not only won but brought a second championship...in a row. Having back to back championship teams in Baseball is rare (only happened twice over the last 40 years) but in basketball its happened 9 times in that same span. Yes the Raptors lost a key part or their team, but Gillick added Stewart, Molitor and Henderson in 93 to keep improving his team. Its these type of moves that help a team get to the next level. Again I think Masai has done a great job but sports are all about championships....and when it comes to Toronto sports its ..Gillick 2 Masai 1
  4. Exactly, and that is why I'd like to hear more that the Jays are interested in Jon Gray and not Matz. I like Matz but I thought the idea was to try to improve, I am not sure he can repeat 2021 let alone repeat it 3 times on a longer deal but having said that I have faith in our FO so we shall see.
  5. Better than Pat Gillick for this city? Better then Sam Pollock for Canada Sports ? Hmmm
  6. Looks like the Jays do in fact have an offer on the table for Matz along with several others. Steven Matz Weighing Multiple Offers, Expects To Sign This Week By Anthony Franco | November 23, 2021 at 10:01am CDT Nov. 23: Matz is weighing offers from each of the Giants, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Tigers, Cubs, Cardinals, Angels and Mets, Heyman tweets. The Giants’ offer remains on the table even after re-signing DeSclafani. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/11/steven-matz-expected-to-sign-this-week.html
  7. Steven Matz Expected To Sign This Week By Anthony Franco | November 22, 2021 at 8:53pm CDT The free agent starting pitching market has moved very quickly over the offseason’s first few weeks, and it seems another domino could soon fall. Southpaw Steven Matz is likely to pick his destination before Thanksgiving, reports Joel Sherman of the New York Post (Twitter link). Interest in Matz has been robust, with the Red Sox, incumbent Blue Jays, Mets, Dodgers, Cardinals and Angels among teams already rumored to have interest. Jon Heyman of the MLB Network adds the Tigers, Cubs and Giants to that mix. The Mets have put forth a formal offer, although they’re joined in that regard by seven other clubs, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com (on Twitter). Matz is coming off a nice season in Toronto, rebounding from an awful 2020 campaign to toss 150 2/3 innings of 3.82 ERA ball. The 30-year-old didn’t miss too many bats, but he only walked 6.6% of opponents and induced grounders at a solid 45.5% clip. Matz’s 4.12 SIERA wasn’t quite as impressive as his ERA, but both his actual run prevention and peripherals have typically hovered right around 4.00. That’s valuable mid-rotation production, although Matz has previously had some issues with the long ball. Home runs weren’t an issue in 2021, but he served up an astonishing 14 round-trippers in just 30 2/3 frames with the Mets in 2020. That showing seemingly marked for an ugly end to a generally solid tenure in Queens, but the New York front office apparently has interest in bringing him back into the fold after his bounceback showing this year. Each of the Tigers, Cubs and Giants entered the offseason known to be targeting rotation help. The Cubs claimed Wade Miley off waivers from the division-rival Reds. Detroit has already signed Eduardo Rodríguez, while San Francisco has reunited with Anthony DeSclafani and are seemingly on the verge of a deal with Alex Wood. None of that trio has as marked a rotation need as they did just two weeks ago, but there’s enough uncertainty on all three clubs’ staffs that they can and probably will make another rotation addition of some sort this winter. The Jays considered making Matz an $18.4MM qualifying offer but ultimately decided against it. Toronto won’t receive a compensatory pick if he were to sign elsewhere, then, while adding Matz wouldn’t cost another team a draft pick.
  8. Giants Nearing Deal With Alex Wood By Anthony Franco | November 22, 2021 at 5:22pm CDT 5:22 pm: The sides are discussing a two-year deal that would pay Wood more than $10MM annually, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN (on Twitter). 5:15 pm: The Giants are closing in on an agreement with free agent southpaw Alex Wood, reports Robert Murray of FanSided (Twitter link). Should a deal come to fruition, he’d join 2021 rotation mate Anthony DeSclafani in returning to San Francisco, and the club was also linked to Alex Cobb this morning. Wood signed with San Francisco for a $3MM guarantee last offseason and more than made good on the club’s fairly small investment. The left-hander worked to a 3.83 ERA across 138 2/3 innings and 26 starts, taking on his heaviest workload since 2018.
  9. Angels Sign Aaron Loup By Anthony Franco | November 22, 2021 at 4:39pm CDT The Angels announced they’ve signed reliever Aaron Loup to a two-year contract. It’s a $17MM guarantee, the team announced. He’ll receive successive $7.5MM salaries in 2022 and 2023, and the deal also contains a $7.5MM club option for 2024 that comes with a $2MM buyout. Loup is a client of the Beverley Hills Sports Council. It’s a strong deal for Loup, who’s handsomely rewarded for a brilliant 2021 campaign. A longtime member of the Blue Jays’ bullpen early in his career, he’d seemingly settled in as a competent journeyman as he entered his 30’s. Loup split the 2018 season between Toronto and the Phillies, then spent the next three years playing on either minor league or one-year big league deals with different clubs.
  10. Pete is very good at turning careers around...........but at the same time this FO has to learn some guys are just wayyy beyond repair (Tanner Roark) not only does it give us a s*** starter every 5 days but it taxes out the bullpen. Remember our manager suffers most in managing his arms.
  11. I still cant believe she did that.
  12. Teammates congrats message Interview with Tim and Friends

  14. Awesome, he deserves it, I bet the one vote he didnt get is from a New York writer
  15. https://www.tsn.ca/blue-jays-notebook-staying-in-touch-with-semien-and-ray-assessing-infield-options-1.1719807 Blue Jays notebook: Staying in touch with Semien and Ray, assessing infield options CARLSBAD, Calif. — It surprises nobody that Ross Atkins left the picturesque GM meetings host resort just outside San Diego on Thursday afternoon with the same roster holes he entered the week with. At this early stage of the off-season, it’s all about information gathering rather than executing, and the first in-person meetings of these kind since 2019 have started to reveal the true intentions of a handful of teams. The Cincinnati Reds and the Oakland A’s are sellers. The Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers are buyers. And there seems to be a much larger group of owners willing to spend this winter compared to a year ago in the thick of the pandemic. All of it will affect what Atkins and his Toronto Blue Jays front office is trying to do in various ways. There’s no secret where the Jays sit: They’re win-now buyers with money to spend once again. Rotation impact, infield reinforcements and bullpen depth are all needed between now and February. Figuring out exactly who they are after and the tricky blueprint needed to get all that done is another story. Atkins is playing multiple hands at a time, the same as 29 other general managers. “It’s a matter of thinking about whether it’s more complementary or a free agent or a trade of some significant impact,” Atkins said. “We’re also in a position where we have to consider if there are ways that other teams are valuing certain areas of our club that could help us round out the team in a different way. That’s why these meetings are so helpful and so important in expediting a lot of that information for us.” The general sense this week in California is that the top end of the free-agent market won’t have much movement until the CBA is figured out, but that doesn’t necessarily mean a handful of deals won’t happen. There will surely be a handful of players seeking some certainty and deem an offer too good to pass up this month. “There are always things we can act on and I wouldn’t be surprised if teams are close right now,” Atkins said Thursday before boarding a flight back to Toronto. “There are things that we could clearly push forward but still have a lot of opportunities and different things to consider where we don’t have something imminent.” Let’s take a look at a handful of Jays talking points this week: STAYING IN TOUCH WITH RAY, SEMIEN It’s impossible to predict where the markets will go for the two Jays stars, but the club continues to have interest in reunions. Many within the game believe both will escape, with interested in a West Coast landing spot and already being courted by the Los Angeles Angels, who absolutely need to surround with some quality, top-of-the-market pitching. The tricky part for the Jays is they can’t act on another move that would rule out Semien or Ray before they figure out if bringing them back is realistic. “A lot of it is in their hands,” Atkins said. “We’re very respectful of them getting to free agency and earning the right to explore that market, so much of it is not necessarily following their lead but being respectful of them wanting to take some time to do that. What we can do is just constantly communicate with their representation and stay in contact consistently to understand the potential of needing to go another direction while we maintain those as options.” ASSESSING INFIELD OPTIONS The Jays could go a number of ways when it comes to adding an infielder. If Semien walks, it’s not outlandish to think they could pivot and look to the shortstop market to see if or would be willing to switch positions. The Semien addition came out of the blue last January so it wouldn’t be smart to completely rule out those names, even if it seems unlikely. They could also call the Oakland A’s about if they want. Atkins left the door open for a star-level addition this week, but also pointed to potentially just adding some depth to the in-house options. “Adding another infielder either in a significant way or just to complement some of the other young infielders that we have would be a good outcome,” Atkins said. “Don’t feel like we absolutely have to, but we’d like to add another infielder to that mix.” CONFIDENCE IN BIGGIO Even though he’s coming off a lost season thanks to a handful of nagging health issues, the Jays have by no means given up on Cavan Biggio. While his wRC+ fell from a well above average 122 in 2020 to just 84 across 294 plate appearances this season, his versatility and lefty bat are going to help him find a role. Exactly what that is will likely depend on the aforementioned infield addition, or additions. “I’m really excited about Cavan Biggio next year,” Atkins said. “I feel like with the injuries he had this year and I’m just extremely optimistic we’re going to see a very good player in Cavan moving forward, not just next year.” As of today, the Jays want Biggio to continue to work at second base, third base and the outfield, with the odd first base day thrown in, too. They could, however, narrow that focus if other moves are made. “We’ve talked a few times recently and he’s so openminded and willing to be flexible,” Atkins said. “Because of his ability, his athleticism, his past, he’s confident he can make the adjustment. I just told him as we learned more about our opportunities I would keep him in the loop and as he starts his work at second and/or third or both and outfield that we can come up with a plan together each step of the way, but would rather learn as much as possible before we make that decision. He’s comfortable with that.” ROMANO NOT GUARANTEED THE NINTH After closing out 23 games this season, Jordan Romano will without a doubt be the key piece to the bullpen next season. But could the Jays be open to adding an established veteran closer this winter? Atkins did not rule it out when asked if he’s seeking complementary bullpen pieces or maybe interested in shopping at the top of the market, where and reside. is also very available via trade. “We’re open to both and don’t feel like we have to establish a back-of-the-bullpen closer that has shown the ability to do that or has that skillset, but we’re open to that and open to that concept,” Atkins said. There is one trait Atkins is interested in. “Swing-and-miss is always nice later in a game,” Atkins said. “To complement (Adam) Cimber and (Trevor) Richards, another arm that could get a strikeout late in the game would be a nice piece to have and hopefully we have a couple of those.” Romano’s attitude towards the ninth inning is something could come into play here and using the quirky right-hander in a “most important outs” role no matter the frame might be ideal. “The great thing about Jordan is he always tells us, ‘I just want to win,’” Atkins relayed. “So we have consistently talked to him about the potential impact, the potential role and his consistent response is, ‘I want to be a part of a winning team and whatever makes us better, I’m all in.’ It’s authentic.” RULE 5 DEADLINE COMING Clubs have until next Friday to add eligible players to the 40-man roster or risk losing them in next month’s Rule 5 draft. The Jays have some interesting decisions to make on some low-level names. Using my 2021 top 50 Jays prospects list as a guide the most important names who need to be added are infielder Miguel Hiraldo (No. 9), right-hander Joey Murray (No. 17), shortstop Leo Jimenez (No. 20) and Brazilian righty Eric Pardinho (No. 23). Jimenez, a true shortstop, seems like the best bet. There’s also Triple-A starters Zach Logue and Bowden Francis, who was acquired in the deal that sent to the Milwaukee Brewers, versatile speedster Samad Taylor (No. 38) as well as interesting low-level arms like Roither Hernandez (No. 41), Naswell Paulino (No. 42) and Alejandro Melean (No. 43). Only a couple of these names will be added to the Jays’ 40-man, but you can expect to see a flurry of minor moves league-wide next Friday.
  16. Better news for us because before the players/ owners agree to new deal it might keep teams close to the luxury tax out of the bidding (Dodgers and Yankees)
  17. A BIG NO on Jansen. His better days are behind him especially at 26mil. Hope we dont go down that road.
  18. I like your ideas but I dont see Marte anywhere near 18 million....Im thinking a lot higher like 24 or 25 million. If in fact he is willing to do 18 Id be all over that.
  19. Ross Atkins End of season press conference
  20. I was just on Fangraphs salary page and its showing Manoah being a free agent in 2027....He didnt come up to the big club until May ....Im sure he is a free agent in 2028 because 21 shouldnt count as its not a full year of service. Am I wrong on this? https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/payroll/blue-jays?fbclid=IwAR3VzXFYv1bU-SDK-isDjvIR3IeAt2jBeVImcrKkUKmQabyvdZy9kh5dMVI

"We had the best offense in the major leagues and in my mind, the best starting pitching in the game. How could you not want to be a part of that?" Semien said postgame. "Obviously, when you have those things set in stone, there are little pieces to add to get to the next level. I'm one of them. I think our bullpen is another one. We also have young guys getting better, so let's see what happens. But I had a great time here. I love the facility and everything that they offered for me to do what I need to do to get ready for a game. And that's all I can ask for sure." Meanwhile, Ray, who's one of the favorites to win AL Cy Young, wasn't as open as Semien on how he feels about a return to the club. "It's definitely an option. I'm sure we'll be in touch," the left-hander said, according to Nicholson-Smith.
  22. Wrong!!!! when one of your deadline deals is for Brad f***in Hand you have to take some responsibility.
  23. Whatever happens, this has been a a real up and down season, If we are going to be eliminated, dont let it be with us losing.......... LETS GO!!!!!
  24. I also think Tampa would love these teams to wear each other out, so they will be all on board to do what they can.
