  1. So do people really not want to do this or were they turned off from all of the off-topic virgin-chatter?
  2. lmao *******. I could simultaneously do signups in here, but then people might see their favourite team gone and lose interest in playing. Want everyone to know about the game before people start picking their teams. And I know some teams might look like they have an advantage, but any team can win. As I said, there will be two equal winners, one for best current team, one for best future.
  3. You can, but you're just giving away your ideas. This is just an interest thread. If we get enough players, I'll make the signup thread at that point, and then you can pick your teams.
  4. I have a feeling that had we kept Syndergaard, Marisnick and d'Arnaud, they'd all end up as s***** below-replacement level players after going through our system. Everyone gets better after leaving the Jays. Just look at the last couple of years. Hill, Gomes, Alvarez, Syndergaard, Bonifacio, etc, etc, etc. Even Napoli was only a Blue Jay for a short amount of time, but just getting this s*** stain of a team in his past resulted in a career year. This team is a dark hole that just sucks the soul out of every player it ever gets. It's like the aliens in Space Jam, only worse. I can't remember the last player (of course other than Doc again, the one inexplicable f***ing anomaly) that you could count on every year to be THAT guy. Bautista is always injured, Rasmus and Lawrie are s*** one year, good the next, and then s*** again, new players that come in end up succumbing to some sort of a f***ing curse (Johnson, Reyes, Happ, Cordero, Santos, etc) and players that look promising at one point end up s***ing the bed right after (Lind, Hill, Morrow, Romero). The only bright lights I can think of in the past I-don't-know-how-many-years are Bautista and Encarnacion, and both were old as f*** to finally "discover" themselves, giving us this tiny 3-4 year window. When will we ever develop our own Trout or Harper or Kershaw or Miller or Fernandez or Machado or Stanton or Harvey? I thought we finally got our break with Lawrie, but nooo, his head is a f***ing muscle.
  5. I'm spamming the f*** out of it. I'm dying to play in a mock, I haven't done once since I got banned on that other bitchass website for advertising this one LOL.
  6. I always knew Syndergaard would be the best Jays prospect in years. Hell for all we know, he's only blossoming because he left the complete f***ing terror that is the Jays developmental system. Has to be the worst system in baseball, maybe all of every sport ever. When was the last time we produced a great prospect that we fully developed, from draft/IFA to majors? Halladay and Carpenter?
  7. lmao, you think people won't want the Jays? I know what team I want if I play. It definitely isn't the Jays haha.
  8. Let's get some more ideas/brainstorming. When it comes to signing up for teams, what are we going to do about the Blue Jays? lol. Every site I've done this game on had fans from every team, so everyone got something they wanted. This is a Blue Jays site, so I'm sure most of the people playing will want the Jays as their #1 priority. Should we make the team off-limits, run by the league (commissioners) or do a raffle of the first 10 players that put it down as a team they want? The sign-up process will be three teams of your preference, in order of priority. Hypothetical example: Signing up as a General Manager, with King as Co-GM and Gordie as Assistant. 1. Toronto Blue Jays 2. Houston Astros 3. Pittsburgh Pirates King and Gordie can then quote my post and just write "^" or "Signed." to prove that they've agreed to be my co and assistant.
  9. I see a lot of people that have ideas on approaching the off-season. Well then why not join our very own MLB Mock Offseason and make those moves yourself!? You can run your own team, sign free agents yourself, and make your own trades with your fellow TBJMB posters! If you have any interest, post here in the dedicated thread: http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/1758-BJMB-Mock-Offseason-1-You-be-the-GM-(Preliminary-Interest-Thread)
  10. Just got news from Admin that if we can get enough players to run this game, he'll make us a separate forum string so we can put Roster threads, free agent threads and rules threads, etc, all in that forum dedicated purely to the Mock and future fantasy redrafts, dynasty leagues, etc. This way we won't have to use google docs, we can contribute to the forums post count by having everything written localized to this website.
  11. Looks like we already have 4 or 5 potential players. Keep em coming. And guys don't worry about having to do a lot of work for this, I'll handle as much of it as humanly possible lol. I'm not working right now so I have the time. If you've got time to watch a baseball match on nights during the season, trust me, you'll have way more than enough to handle one of these teams, it won't take nearly that much time.
  12. We can; the way we did it on other websites was just keep track in a separate sub-forum where each GM makes their own club's thread and keeps all their information for roster and payroll, etc updated. As for your question in the other thread about budgets, there will definitely be budgets. As you said, not every team can spend like the Dodgers as it's unrealistic. Each team will get their real life payroll as it stands, but each team will also have the opportunity to request for more salary cap from the commissioners. Of course, teams like the Dodgers and Yankees will have the hardest time scoring more dollars, but teams like the Rays and Athletics will have a far easier go of it. If there are teams that are just generally suckish from top to bottom, I might award them more salary dollars for them to try to fix their roster up through free agency, just to try to keep the game more fair as a whole, but we'd have to think on that. All of this is way in the later stages as we don't even know if enough people would be interested enough to play. And I want at least three commissioners, who can also run teams if they wish. There will be arrangements to make sure that commissioners cannot favor their own teams.
  13. Yeah I made a thread for it, let's talk about it there. Would be good to start getting some posts in the thread and begin brainstorming a little bit. Would love to get some ideas. And yeah I can see why people might think it'll drop in activity, but as I said, I've had experience playing these games before and not only does activity not usually drop off, you get more people that want to join in because they see that it's actually really fun, so you usually start a thread that serves as a waiting list to place new players that missed out on the signups or were previously not interested.
  14. It seems like a lot at first because most of you guys have never seen the game played before. It isn't that bad, it just looks like a lot in writing, but the commissioners are the ones that have to do a lot of the work (most of which I'll probably handle). It also comes down to how seriously you want to take it, some players that really want to win might spend more time than others that are just along for the ride. This is the first edition of this game anyways, so I think everyone will be getting their feet wet in terms of learning the ropes. Teams that have two GMs definitely will be easier to handle because you can share duties. I can also arrange the game for it to play quicker than it usually is done on other sites, just to make it easier on the players.
  15. Would be you be interested in being a commissioner, player or both? From now on, if anyone posts, could you guys please put that down? That way I can get a gauge of how many people would want to be commissioners and then select from that bunch. If Admin sees this thread, it would also be great to see what he thinks. Games like this definitely greatly increase forum activity.
  16. North would you be interested in being an actual commissioner? We could definitely think about the agents thing, but I think on the first go of this game, since it would be a lot of water-treading, as many players that can jump onto an actual team, whether through being co-GMs or assistants, the better.
  17. The problem with those numbers is that the total number of people online is usually inaccurate, as anywhere from 70-90% of them can be offline guests, which include people that are away from keyboard, people who are viewing a specific thread for news, or even search engine bots.
  18. This is a thread where I will try to gauge the interest of our community to see how many people would be interested in signing up for this game. Basically what it is, is that it is sort of a fantasy baseball league designed for the offseason. Instead of picking up players off waivers and competing against other teams in head-to-head matchups like traditional fantasy baseball, you are becoming the General Manager of an entire baseball organization and experiencing the off-season; trading with other squads and signing free agents to make your franchise the best ball club in the MLB. Your objective is to make your team as good as it can be through trades and signings, and then at the end of the mock, the rest of the forum will be able to vote on which team they think is the strongest. The winners will be declared the first BJMB Mock Offseason Champions. There will be two winners and two runner-ups. One champion and one runner-up will be rewarded for having the strongest 2014 roster, while the other champion and runner up will be rewarded for having the best ball club of the future (best young talent, best farm system). By having two paths of competition (best team, best future), you allow players to decide whether they want to be buyers and trade their prospects and young talent for proven veterans, or if they want to be sellers, trading their expensive and ageing players for talented new prospects. The game is played by players signing up on a first-come, first-serve basis, acquiring real baseball teams with their current rosters, payrolls, coaching staffs and all else. For example, I can sign up to be the GM of the San Diego Padres. I'll get their entire roster, farm system and front office, along with their current payroll and each player will be worth his real life salary. It is then my job to either trade my older players for prospects, or vice versa, but my ultimate objective is to try to gain as much talent as possible. The rosters will probably be based on what they were the day the 2013 World Series ended. Free Agents will be handled by commissioners, which will be me, and one to three others that sign up for the position. To complete a trade, you will need to agree on one with another General Manager, and then both GM's will need to send me (or any other commissioner) the trade details via PM, and it will be then be the commissioners duty to judge whether it is a legitimate trade (we won't be too strict, but we won't be allowing trade rapes either). Arbitration numbers will be based on MLBTR projections, and salaries will be based on Cot's Baseball Contracts. Rosters and prospect information will be found through MLB.com and minorleagueball.com respectively. This is an incredibly fun and engaging game once it is cleanly organized. I just need to see if there would be enough people interested in playing before taking the time to set it up. _______________________________________________ Tentative interest list: TwistedLogic GordieDougie BabbaGanoush NorthOf49 LetTheBallFly King Angrioter
  19. I would need people to tell me if they're interested though. I might make a thread to gauge interest. How many of you would be down to play? And would anyone want to be a commissioner?
  20. A complete hypothetical scenario: Commissioners: King, GordieDougie, TwistedLogic New York Yankees: Angrioter, Co-GM: BTS Boston Red Sox: JFaS Tampa Bay Rays: admin Toronto Blue Jays: King, Co-GM: TwistedLogic, Assistant: Gsnarls Balitmore Orioles: GordieDougie etc... Teams can have Co-GMs, assistants, or they can run solo. An assistant can't do anything without permission of one of the GMs, but co-GMs have equal powers. Commissioners can run teams, but they can't abuse their powers for their own team. For example, in this case, if me and King want to send in a trade, we can't approve it ourselves, Gordie would have to approve the trade. Trades must go through approvals in an effort to negate trade-rapes or cheating by means of putting all assets from two teams into one super-team. Teams can also petition to the commissioners for raises in salary. You use real-life rosters, real-life salary figures, real life prospects. It's a lot of work (and a LOT of stress for commissioners) but it is really worthwhile and once you get the hang of it, running 1 or 2 games like this a year becomes really fun and gives the entire forum community something to do together.
  21. A Mock Offseason. Basically what you do is you get a few posters that would be the commissioners of the league (2 or 3 commissioners, including me). Then you make a sign up thread and have posters post the name of their first, second and third priority teams. On a first come, first serve basis, you assign one team to each player. That player is free to hire one co-general manager that has the exact same amount of power as he does, and one assistant. It really helps for each player to have at least one co-GM, just because two players managing a team is a lot more efficient based on how often they can log in (but of course, you'd need more than 30 original players then). From there, once each team has 1-3 players assigned as General Managers and AGM, they basically can trade players among each other, and sign free agents, etc. The commissioners decide the rules, and act as the free agents (I'm Robinson Cano and you have to make your offer to me), etc. By the end of the Mock (a fixed date, let's say January 30 as completely hyopthetical), when each team is done trading and signing free agents, you have a voting tournament in the main forum to see what team won the "Mock Offseason World Series". I've done a piss-poor job of explaining this very quickly, but you can sort of catch the drift. It is incredibly fun, and the other forum I was on before this one, where mocks like this were played, they were extremely popular with the posters. It would increase activity a lot because people would log in to the forum to manage their mock and it would give us all something to do in our own form of an offseason while our teams run the real thing. As I said, you would need active players, players that volunteer to be commissioners, and you would probably need the cooperation of the administrator, to give us a place to play the game (could be done in the offtopic forum, but a separate forum dedicated to mocks/other games helps a ton because then you can give limited moderator powers to the commissioners in just that one forum).
  22. Well then I've got an idea that'll give us all something fun to do and raise activity on the forum. It requires at least 30+ active posters to join though.
  23. By active I mean they actually have time to log in multiple times a day, not just people who log in once a week to check what's new.
