  1. Jose Reyes and Josh Thole feel bad for David Wright and New York Mets fans June 16th, 2014 2:11 pm Blue Jays SS Jose Reyes and C Josh Thole say they feel bad for David Wright, who continues to struggle through a rebuilding process in Queens, they told columnist Anthony Reiber this past weekend (Newsday, June 15). “I was there from 2009 through 2012, and it was ‘wait till next year, wait till next year,’” said Thole. “The hardest thing in the baseball world, in my opinion, is to play in New York for the Mets. Everything is a story there.” Reyes, Thole and the Blue Jays are 40-30 and in first place in the American League East. “After a little while, you just want to win,” Reyes said. “It’s not about the money, because we are already set. We've got a contract and it’s now about winning. We’re not getting any younger, you know? What is he, 31? I’m 31. I want to win.” Maybe this isn't thread worthy. Whatever; slow news day. Still, it's weird being other end of the "they're finally on a winning organization" discussion. The saddest part is that I found this article on a Mets discussion forum. Must feel like a kick to the nuts. One of the comments: "When JOSH THOLE is happy he left your team you got troubles. JOSH THOLE feels bad for the Mets. WORST owners in sports. I envy Clippers fans. Someone please follow Wilpon around with a recorder going. We need to get him on tape saying something racist." http://i.imgur.com/py2PxcN.gif
  2. Over his twenty-year career, Tony Gwynn had more doubles than strikeouts. In 10232 plate appearances, he only struck out 434 times, while hitting 543 doubles. His slugging percentage was also higher than his total strikeouts, at 459. For comparison's sake, from 2004 to 2006, in 2035 plate appearances, Adam Dunn struck out 557 times.
  3. That's weird; why wasn't he wearing his Blue Jays jersey?
  4. I was just about to say something like this. No matter how much some of the Jays moves frustrate me, this is the reason I still go to bat for AA every now and then. Say what you want about their policy on years when it comes to free agency and extensions, the Jays have some of the best contracts in the majors. When you look at the age of their roster and how many premium free-agent talents they have beyond arb-years, and the money they're making, it's insane. Almost every other team either has players that are significantly over paid, or players that are too young to have been over paid in the first place. The Jays do a pretty excellent job of managing their contracts. On a team where you have Edwin, Bautista, Reyes, Buehrle and Dickey, the biggest albatrosses on the roster are Romero making 7.5M and Morrow at 8M, two extensions that were actually excellent at the time they were signed. Everyone else is either worth the money they're making, or in almost every case, giving you an incredible bargain by monumentally outperforming their contracts. Despite the fact that he was traded, the Escobar extension was also to their credit. If the worst thing that people can come up with when they talk about the Jays front office are the moves in the 2013 off-season, that lead to what is currently a contending team, or the fact that they didn't cave in and sign someone like Choo or Jimenez over the past winter, then the organization is in much better hands than many other teams.
  5. How does the timing for bans work on this forum? I just checked Spanky's profile and his last post was on 10:19, so if he was banned for exactly two days, does that mean he can come back in half-an-hour ish or he has to wait till reset time (12)?
  6. This is the kind of stupid ******** that incites other people and begins arguments. There's no way you're actually dumb enough to believe what you just wrote there. Everyone knows you have a wet willy for AA, get the hell over it already.
  7. Episodes 9 and 10 of Game of Thrones.
  8. Which in my opinion is a massive improvement (though the guys who posted there hate it). Had it always been like that, I might have even joined at some point. Would never have touched the original atrocious taint of a forum layout with a ten foot pole though. I like the meme rankings thing, that was pretty original, lol. I wonder if it's too soon to make a meme rankings on this board. I'd have to nominate "Despair" to be pretty high up there. "Designated for Anal" is probably another one.
  9. I know he said that but like you said, it was a few weeks ago. It's the middle of June now and the Jays are still 11 games over. Every week that passes while they remain in first, it makes the idea of the post-season that much more real. A lot of GMs tend to develop tunnel vision in those situations, which is why I'm hoping AA sticks to his guns. That's exactly how I feel as well. Outside of the 2014 draft class, Norris is the only prospect left (not including Stroman) on my list of guys I don't want to see traded. Maybe Osuna... I've got the same gut feeling with him that I had for both Sanchez and Norris before they jumped the lists. But everyone else is fair game.
  10. I'm starting to think that the Jays are open to trade both Sanchez and Norris, and that scares me. Especially in a trade for Price or Shark.
  11. That was actually pretty awesome, seeing both of today's poster boys for scouting and sabermetrics get into it. That was pretty hard to read. Always liked Bard. Had no idea he was struggling that hard now. I know this probably doesn't pertain, but f*** you Farrell. That made me laugh.
  12. For anyone that doesn't understand why you had to go through that just now ^ http://i.gyazo.com/a0a43ca34b8a3fdf5bc5279f14f40662.png
  13. If you're considered a troll and it's gotten to the point where everybody hates you, I don't know why you feel like you have to continue to provoke people and make it worse, as if you're past some point of no return. Most of us here aren't *******s just for the sake of being *******s. The mods here are ridiculously lenient (sometimes to a fault) and I don't understand why more people don't take advantage of that to better themselves and make the most of a second (or third.. or fourth..) chance. I wasn't on the old board, so I don't know if I have this right, but "Gibbers", as far as I know, was widely disliked there, and yet he came here, made a new name for himself (literally), and became a quality poster... mostly. I don't think anyone even knew who he was until he had the nuts to admit it. I still disagree with him all the time, but at least I respect him because I know what he's saying is genuinely his opinion, and not just to provoke or incite other posters. I don't know if anyone even cares about his past anymore, because it's irrelevant now. The moderation here is so relaxed, that it actually irritates me sometimes, because I've been a moderator before and I know how tight other sites run their ships. Hell, a lot of the stuff that even I post, I'd never get away with anywhere else. But I understand why it's like that here; the simple fact is that it's run by other forum posters. This site isn't out to make a profit. It was made by people who are active forum posters just like the rest of us, so that we'd all have a place to discuss something we're passionate about without being constantly bombarded with toxicity. And every day that gets taken for granted. This board gives you a unique situation that you'll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else. There's almost no filter on what you can or can't say (speaking of which, you're all mouth-breathing troglodytes and I hate you all), there's no censorship, people are free to talk about almost anything, and the entire place is run by guys that understand and share the exact same frustrations as the rest of us. Instead of abusing that freedom, why not make the most of it? What can there possibly be to lose? Does anyone actually enjoy spending all of their time incessantly bickering with everybody else? If you get banned (which is pretty damn hard to do here), instead of lashing out like a woman scorned, why not take it as a blessing. You get to start over, you get a completely clean slate, and none of the stupid s*** you said will show up in your post history. As hostile and confrontational as some of us are towards trolls, people here aren't uptight and they will give you another shot. Or at least I will. I have no problem burying hatchets as deep as JP Arencibia's career, if people show that they can man up and do the same. Maybe that doesn't mean much, but if nothing else, you'll have one of the more argumentative pricks on this site in your corner and we can gang up on the hive** together. No matter how different everyone here is, and no matter how many redeeming or irritating qualities each of us has, everybody here has at least one thing in common (exception: Hurl). Based on that fact alone, it shouldn't be as hard as it is to get along. This isn't just a problem with the "trolls", because I know full well that I need to improve as well. All of us, established members, veterans, everyone needs to step their game up. You can laugh it off as me being cheesy but consider one thing. On June 27, 2013, less than six weeks after this forum was created, there were 441 accounts (334 active) registered on the site. That's a membership base that most forums can only dream of starting with. But today, almost a full year later, there are only 843 (all duplicate, banned and inactive accounts included), of which there are only 367 active accounts. With all due respect, that's pretty atrocious. There's been virtually no growth and we've gotten fewer sign ups over the course of the entire past year than we did in the first month. If you think I've made those numbers up, the proof is right here. Considering the boom with which this place launched off, we've done a pretty great job of alienating and repelling new people since then, and unless people have a problem seeing this site become bigger and better, that sucks and it needs to change. TLDR: Really the only thing left to say is that people on all sides need to do a better job in making this place tolerable for everyone else. If you're new, try to understand that you're joining a community that is already established. Try to approach things with an open mind and see what we're about. And if you're a veteran that has been around, try and give new people more of a chance; remember that all of us were newbies at one point or another. And last of all, if you're what people consider a "troll", just grow up already and make everyone's life (yours, above all) easier. Just **Contrary to popular belief (mostly among trolls), there's actually no "hive" on this site. I've been at odds with, and have had extended debates and disagreements with almost every prominent poster of this forum at one point or another, and the same can be said for most of them. Most people can agree on certain things while most people can also disagree on certain things. That doesn't mean anyone is part of a "hive" or a gang. It just means that you're smart if you agree with me and stupid if you don't :]
  14. Compile a list of evidence and send it either through a "report" or a PM to one of the mods. That makes everything easier. In most cases, someone who's been permanently banned should never be allowed back. I get that the guys around here like to give second chances, and even though I don't necessarily agree with it, I get it. It's when people waste those second chances is when I don't see why they continue to get rope. Yes Spanky was only banned for two days and Metallijay would have been perma-banned, but that's also because Metallijay has gotten way too many chances. That being said, he was good today (at least in the GDT). Never thought I'd say that, but if we can somehow witness the miracle of him turning it around, it never hurts to have another poster who is as active as he is. Edit: Speaking on second chances though, with the new infraction system in place, where people are handed incremental bans, I don't think it will ever again be justifiable to allow someone to come back after a permanent ban. If someone burns through their infractions and gets repetitively banned to the point of being permanently shut down, any dupe they make from that point forward should be immediately perma-banned, long before it ever even gets to the point where people are ruining every thread by "hounding" around in their sherlock trenchcoats.
  15. Seeing as how the Off-topic thread was buried into non-existence, I'm just going to use this. Whatever happened to Arkadium, the poll guy? Anyone remember this? http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/710-What-do-you-miss-most-about-Brett-Lawrie
  16. That would be an insult to Spanky's memory.
  17. Unfortunately?!?!?! http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lj7eb0lI581qdrcyyo1_500.gif
  18. CaseY Janssen. http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/baseball/baseball-strike-smiley-emoticon.gif
  19. Athletics with another 3-run bomb! http://i.imgur.com/oRSeOQr.gif
  20. I wouldn't mind the Jays going outside of the box and toying around with a left-handed closer. Cecil and Loup both have the stuff for that. I could f***ing hug you for finally implementing infractions. The GDT has been great today. Massive improvement, which is completely out of the ordinary in a game as close as this has been.
  21. I don't think he should be. He's excellent in his current role, where he can go multiple innings and keep his s*** together, both in low and high leverage situations.
  22. Even if they call that out, that was f***ing brilliant by Bautista. That was some matrix s***, and there is 0 doubt that that was safe.
  23. Yeah, my friend f***ed up the red wedding for me two minutes after the episode ended. Haven't even toyed with the chance of that happening since then.
