  1. f*** everyone else. The team that scares me is the Rangers. I want nothing to do with them. I don't care about their record or plus minus. They're rolling. They got blinkers on and they're playing with house money. Not that we can't beat them or anything, but they're the only team in the AL that I wouldn't fancy us more than 50 50 against.
  2. Like a punch in the gut. f*** the Royals and f*** the Mariners.
  3. It is 5 games. If the series goes the distance, 4 guys are going to start no matter how you cut it.
  4. Might be down to a half game after tonight, Seattle is up one run late. KC is really staggering to the finish. It's 50-50 right now that we catch them.
  5. Anybody else think it's important the Jays try and get their rotation lined up for how it will look in the ALDS? I'd line them up Price-Dickey-Stroman-Estrada. I think you want RA in the Rogers Centre, not on the road Game 3. Stroman is like a second ace, he can start Game 3 on the road. If the rotation gets juggled in the next couple of days, we'll know what they're thinking coming post-season. It wouldn't be that hard to juggle either. Keep everyone on their normal rest and give Dickey and Estrada a few extra days off then put RA in after Price and Estrada after Stroman.
  6. I don't care how sweet that poon is or was, it's got nothing on home field.
  7. It's all there for us. The division is a foregone conclusion. Home field is next on our hit list. I'd be shocked if we didn't get that too.
  8. This thread is full of second guessing and weak ass bellyaching. Jays record since July 28th is 33-11. If Gibbons is screwing things up, I can't see it from that record. Baseball managers seem to get the most flak though, for whatever reason. People said Gaston was terrible when he was winning back to back World Series.
  9. Two starts would mean he pitches Game One on about ten days rest. I don't think that's the way to go.
  10. It's Price's to lose at this point. If he takes care of business the last three starts, he should take it.
  11. Don't know. I'm talking about Candiotti over Guzman
  12. Cito did do it, of course, in 91. It was a rousing success, as I recall.
  13. I'm tired of reading about the "Dickey effect", especially as it pertains to the playoffs. David Price is starting Game 1. Deal with it. If Dickey makes the playoff rotation it will be because he is one of the best 3 or 4 starters, not because of some "effect" that may reduce the ERA of the starting pitcher who follows him by 0.46. In one game, in real life, in real time, that rounds down to 0 runs saved. Zero. Talk to me about something that freaking matters.
  14. Motherf***ers!! Mount up!! It's a Rummy Run Saturday GDT!! Hell yeah! Mount up bitches!!
  15. http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2012/4/16/2933862/a-closer-look-at-pitchers-who-consistently-underperform-their
  16. Dickey is not starting Game 1. This is not 1991.
  17. There was a thread called Hutch and FIP which talked about this earlier in August. Basically Magits posted this, with a link to a good article: There is an interesting article here (http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/201...rperform-their) from 2012 about pitchers underperforming their FIP. It comes to a minor conclusion that perhaps pitchers do have SOME influence over their batted ball profiles, citing Johan Santana, who outperformed his FIP by 20 points over more than 2000 innings. (because of his change up) BTS, who loves his advanced stats, responded with this: Obviously there are situations in which a pitcher's ERA doesn't match his DIPS and there’s something to it. Buehrle's ERA was lower than his FIP, people looked into it, and found that he's an absolute elite defender and that makes up most of the difference. Matt Cain had something going on. Knuckleballers and guys with elite changeups tend to give up fewer runs than DIPS suggests they should.
  18. Estrada should go to the pen? Why? For being the 2nd best pitcher on the staff? Because of XFIP? Because XFIP shortchanges pitchers who have great changeups?
  19. What to do with Stroman? I have no f***ing clue. He's obviously coming back to start. But no one in the rotation deserves to get pushed out. I can actually see them going with a six man starting staff, including Price. It wouldn't hurt to give him extra days too. Hutch to the pen doesn't seem right to me. He's been a different guy his past three starts. Estrada's been a rock all year. It'll be interesting to see what they do.
  20. Also important to note that those two WS teams brought it down the stretch. 92 team went 21-9 and the 93 team went 20-10. I think we'll finish up 20 and 10 as well. Something like 10 and 3 at home and 10 and 7 on the road.
  21. How good were they in 85? Franchise best 82-50 after 132. In 1987 they were 78-54. The forgotten 1984 team, buried by the Tigers who started the year 35-5 also had 75 wins through 132 games. Post 93 the best record through 132 games was 69-63, achieved 4 times: 1999, 2000, 2006 and 2010. That would make us the Texas Rangers of this year, in the hunt for the second wild card but a fringe contender at best.
  22. For 10 starts. Yeah he'll never be successful as a starter. As clear as day. A 100% no brainer. No one can make that statement, no one knows. I appreciate his struggles as a starter, and how good he's been as a reliever, but I'm not going to close the book on a 23 year old.
  23. I agree with this. I'd like to see Sanchez get a chance at starting next year. He always has a pen job if it doesn't work out.
  24. I say why not? We keep trucking and doing what we've been doing and go 21-6. The Yankees hit a rough patch and go 13-15 and there you have it. We'd be 91-64 and they'd be 83-72, with 7 left. Not likely of course but within the realm of possibility.
  25. You see the Tigers starters for this three game set? If we don't sweep, then something went horribly wrong. They're throwing out three starters who should be in AAA.
