  2. That's like the opposite of US law regarding Cubans.
  3. Fyi, the accent on Gomez's name is facing the wrong way (i.e. the accent is the wrong type of accent).
  4. But he wasn't even among the top ten hitters...
  5. And which event evened out the Amish changing a double into a homerun? What about that other brutal strike?
  6. Being a below-average player doesn't really have much to do with his personality. He's likeable in a sense, seems like a pretty good guy, understood his role on the team last year despite asking to get more PT elsewhere. He's just not a very good defensive catcher.
  7. Anyone know of a decent youtube stream to watch this game? Specifically youtube.
  8. How to get on a team's blacklist.
  9. The A's will be the A's.
  10. Janssen is terrible, and O'Day would not be an overpay.
  11. He's not Casey Janssen though. Janssen sucked ass at the end of his Blue Jays tenure. O'Day is much better.
  12. I wouldn't bother, he does that a lot.
  13. I think the way he throws his fastball (with the point of release being a big factor) certainly contributes to that. He throws as close to a "rise ball" as you can get; clearly he's doing something special when he can get so many high fastball swinging strikes whilst sitting 87.
  14. Didn't not is probably an error by the person doing the transcript. People don't usually say that unless they're joking or being purposely deceitful.
  15. And also the fact that Simmons is substantially better than Goins at defense, shortstop or otherwise.
  16. 1) Arbitrary cutoff point for PA 2) Only 33? That's ~67% of the group that are better than him. 3) Who said that outfielders are the ones who had to be leading off? I know you might not necessarily be suggesting that, but in this discussion I don't see the relevance of only mentioning outfielders. Out of Blue Jays with at least 100 plate appearances (another arbitrary cutoff point), Pillar was 13th out of 16, and it should be noted that he had the lowest walk rate on the team. As far as pure hitting ability, he was 10th in wRC+, with Tulowitzki and Reyes right below him (guys that have been above-average hitters throughout their careers). Edit: I didn't see the post above yours, which means I might have missed some serious sarcasm on your part.
  17. They're not really comparable offensively other than they're both below average. Goins is a much worse hitter than Simmons, the latter has quite good contact rates leading to few strikeouts. As far as the defense, the difference is definitely as much as people think, Simmons is a generational defender FFS, it's not even close.
  18. Egregious statement.
  19. I don't have all of the details, but it seems like Wilner was just responding to some fans, which is pretty much his job. I'm sorry that Pillar got his feelings hurt, but he doesn't really belong in this conversation when Wilner isn't even blatantly insulting him.
  20. Wilner is 100% right on this matter.
  21. Shapiro's teams were constantly in the bottom 5-10 payrolls in the league. That's not his own doing, that's on the owners of the Cleveland Indians.
  22. There are viable starters in this FA class who will not cost a lot. I don't understand why you think Shapiro won't spend money to acquire good starters at a reasonable price. His situation with Cleveland was completely different than his situation with the Blue Jays.
  23. What exactly is so miraculous about Hutchison being a capable #3/#4? Even in a "horrific" season by everyone's standards he still provided 150 innings of 1.5 WAR at league minimum.
  24. Have you taken a look at this year's FA pitching class?
