  1. How can you say the 2017 draft looks crappy when 95% of the players haven't made the bigs yet lol. Not all productive players will come out of however many there are in the current iteration of the top 100 or the first 30 picks. Hell most from the 2016 draft haven't made the majors yet, and some of the notables from that are Pete Alonso (64th overall) and Shane Bieber (122nd overall).
  2. We had the third best offense in the league behind the Yankees (prime Jeter, A-Rod, Posada, Giambi with the delayed aging effect of roids) and Indians (prime Grady Sizemore, Travis Hafner, Victor Martinez), and the defense wasn't bleeding runs either. I'd say that was easily our best lineup of the decade and in fact likely our best from the championship squads up until the 2015 one. The rotation just wasn't deep enough and you make a great point that we probably expected way more out of Chacin and Towers after their seemingly breakout 2005 campaigns.
  3. Here's a slightly old but still relevant and pretty interesting video on Trevor May breaking down his pitches and the general schools of thought with regards to pitching. It's probably a lot of stuff that most of you will have heard, but I think he does a good job breaking it down and also seeing what kind of terminology someone like him uses as opposed to what you might hear in some broadcasts or on the web.
  4. Yup, injuries to his shoulder.
  5. You guys are posting stuff with the watermark "The Sports Memery" across the middle. Come on guys, this is obviously false. It's not even funny. A 3 second search tells me Altuve barely uses Twitter and this interaction never happened.
  6. Kent played half a season for us in 1992, and he was only decent. He wouldn't become HoF caliber until he got to the Giants several years later. No reason in including someone outside their prime.
  7. Shorter season means more variance in the standings. For a team which isn't elite, and not even necessarily competitive, that can only help us. Some early injuries for the Yankees, Red Sox, Rays combined with a hot start from some of our players can cause all kinds of chaos in the projected standings and it would be extremely beneficial since the regression from those injuries and unsustainable hot starts usually occurs throughout the long 162 game season.
  8. IMO Russell Martin blows Pat Borders out of the water and even has a case to be a starter though I have no problem with Whitt taking that duty. Osuna also has a strong case over Mark Eichhorn although I never realized how good the latter's 1986 season was while never starting a single game.
  9. Tim Anderson is headed in that direction. 2100 PA .276 BA .303 OBP (lol)
  10. I don't think anyone would watch if they were 5+ inning games. They're making the games short enough for people to tune in but not be bored and click off, while also having the possibility of multiple games in a day.
  11. You mean like every year? Best part of the draft, followed closely by the Red Sox taking one of the more "well-known" names that no other team took.
  12. Why would they still be in high school? They'd just graduate and go play in JUCO ball if they still wanted to be drafted in 2021, better competition = more potential to boost your draft stock. The top high school recruits will all likely already have NCAA commitments and would just go there instead of the back and forth with clubs trying to offer them a bunch of money so they forgo the commitment.
  13. Okay, so he had one obvious outlier in 2015, not debating you there. Then he proceeded to have 3 straight seasons with identical xWOBACON and slightly worse xWOBA between 2016 and 2017-2018. A ~.315 wOBA in San Francisco is like a ~95 wRC+? Obviously he was awful last season or we wouldn't have signed him to a minor league deal with an opportunity to make the team out of ST. I think it'd be unfair to look at him having one clear down season and say this is who he is going forward, a simply awful baseball player. 29 is definitely not old lol, post prime at worst, but I doubt he's had one of the worst possible declines where he is on the aging curve, so I'd bet on him being closer to his xWOBA from the last couple of seasons (even averaging out his xWOBACON gives roughly the same as his projection). His actual batted ball profile hasn't changed, as his LD%, GB%, FB% and IFFB% are all along career averages. From the beginning you argued that Panik is absolute trash and has no purpose being on our roster, everyone else is arguing that he's just a bench player who won't hurt us too much and will be fine in that role. If Montoyo plays him too much, which I'm not sure he will as I can't see Biggio getting as much time around the field as before, then that has nothing to do with his projected performance.
  14. Explain to me how Panik's batted ball profile has changed significantly over his career, and why I'm supposed to believe that he will clearly underperform his projections. Am I supposed to believe that his last year is his true talent level? Has 29 year old Joe Panik lost all his strength from two years ago when he was a league average hitter? Why would that be the case?
  15. He's just a bench player and doesn't even project that badly. This isn't that weird of a move, if he sucks he'll be gone in a month, and he's not blocking anyone that's more deserving of PT.
  16. I find that 12 month TJ recoveries are rare so I think the most likely scenario is he ends up missing two half seasons, which is still not the worst outcome considering he would have missed the entirety of this season under normal circumstances give or take a few months in 2021.
  17. It finally happened. All those years of people calling out his frame and pitching mechanics and finally they got it right. With how long he lasted though you'd think the injury is less about those things and more about him just being a pitcher in general.
  18. This is only day 2 of all sports being gone. It's only going to get much worse from here on out.
  19. Are we really doing windows when the start of the season is postponed? Lol
  20. The minor leagues have also suspended the start of their season.
  21. He projects better than Anthony Alford at least! (shots fired)
  22. King and I were shocked he was available to be honest with you guys. Who even dropped him in the first place?
  23. We added Adrian Morejon. Abom up.
  24. This is what peak athletic performance looks like.
