  1. This is basically my reasoning in this trade. An embarrassing deal for the Rockies. For the second time in 3 years the Cardinals pry a star away from the NL West and while the DBacks return was far more reasonable they've given up no one they'll miss. Impressive work.
  2. So I guess the real question at this point is why would the Rockies settle for a package of trash instead of asking for one good prospect/young player and some unknown lottery tickets? Jhon Torres and Austin f***ing Gomber is the best they could do for a 5 WAR superstar? This seems like the package you give up for Kris Bryant because you think he's past it not a guy averaging 5.5 WAR the last 4 seasons and a third of a bad season that no one cares about.
  3. If he was guessing why would he be guessing those guys in particular lol? It's definitely his sources telling him those guys are included or were heavily discussed.
  4. It's weird because on one hand the Cardinals are giving up a package based on the assumption that Arenado opts out but then why the f*** are the Rockies eating a potential $50M+ of his contract?
  5. Don't forget to cite your sources in the future Carlos. https://www.prospectslive.com/fantasy/2020/2/26/the-best-fantasy-baseball-sleeper-that-everyone-has-forgotten-about
  6. Good for both parties. Hopefully we get some fans later into the season so he gets a nice send-off if he calls it a career.
  7. The past 3 years haven't been enough indication that Merryweather quite literally can't hold it together? He couldn't even stay healthy as a reliever in the month or so that he was up lol. We should consider ourselves lucky if he can become a 2 IP reliever who gets to 60 innings in a season more than once.
  8. Yeah I think people expected him to be pumping 97+ from the bullpen and that just wasn't the case. He's a middling fastball + decent slider reliever with zero control. People stuck on his "potential" are living 5+ years into the past.
  9. That opinion is too mainstream. Law always has to be the odd man out.
  10. What is this, 2015? SRF is who he is, a reliever with decent stuff who doesn't know where the ball is going. One year he may be able to be more consistent with his location and put up a very good season out of the bullpen, the others he'll probably struggle maintaining a K/BB ratio near or above 2.
  11. This. If Winckowski doesn't appear on Radio Scouts no one on this board cares that he's included here. He's even rule 5 eligible, so would need to be added to the 40-man soon anyway.
  12. Matz has good stuff, I'm sure some of our internal metrics see some upside in him.
  13. So basically clearing 40-man roster room. Can't be disappointed with giving them up even if Winckowski was a nice story to follow. Let's hope we can unlock Matz's talent.
  14. Read the post again connorp.
  15. Could see the Mets getting involved. They still have one too many 1B/DH types and there's no DH, so Dom Smith could be going the other way. On the other hand that would have the Rockies actually addressing a position of need sensibly and that just sounds too good to be true.
  16. Can't be mad at this. This same guy also said he wanted $15M from the Yankees so it seems like it was Yankees, overpay or bust for him. Would have loved to add him but at least he's not going to a contender.
  17. I see your point but I'm not sure this is entirely the case. His whole A's career Semien has been a roughly league average hitter with his plate discipline numbers slowly but continually trending in the right direction and flashes of real pop, basically culminating in his 2019 breakout. He also raked in the minors for what it's worth. Simmons on the other hand has been a slap hitter from day one, making tons of contact but never with much authority until his 17-18 seasons where he finally tapped into some in-game power. I think even if you regress Semien's 2019 season to his mean he's still comfortably around 10% better than Simmons at the plate.
  18. In a sense Simmons gives us less flexibility, as he's almost certainly signing to play SS only. He offers a lot lower upside than Semien but potentially a higher floor since his defense has consistently been top-of-the-scale elite his entire career. He also kind of quit on the Angels last season which isn't the greatest look for a young up-and-coming team so one could argue Semien is a higher character guy and we could speak all day about how much that actually means but the org clearly chases those types. Given that it forces us to move Bichette off SS for potentially only a season, I prefer acquiring Semien who can step in at SS in a pinch but won't demand to do so and will play wherever he's asked.
  19. Mark Shapiro is a pro at saying exactly the right thing without giving anything away. One could easily interpret him saying the heavy lifting is done as meaning no more 9 figure contracts are being handed out. So probably no Bauer, cool. Keep in mind at the time of this press conference the Semien signing isn't even official and I'd classify that as "heavy lifting". I'm positive the team is exploring several avenues to address the rotation still, it may not come in the form of a free agent but there's bound to be a trade in the works if they can't land an Odorizzi/Paxton.
  20. You just knew someone from the Toronto Sun was going to ask about the cheating scandal, always some ******* that has to make things uncomfortable for everyone.
  21. What do you want him to say? "Yeah we saw Grichuk was ass out there and needed to get a real player to replace that bum." Of course he's going to acknowledge his effort out there, it's not like Grichuk asked to play at his less valuable position. He's still a player under contract that we will rely on during the year.
  22. Miller probably signs for like 2-4M, would be an excellent bench piece to have.
  23. No reason it has to take us out of Hendricks if we are actually interested in him. And if it takes us out on Bryant, who cares? If the Cubs thought he was worthless due to his arb bonus they would have non-tendered him. I'd rather pay the money in FA for a rental than also having to send assets to do so.
  24. Even if we get his 2018 and 2020 versions that's still a 3 WAR player lol.
