  1. Lind is crafty, while not directly saying there is a problem in the clubhouse, you can pretty much insinuate that he thinks there is. I'm not sure if he meant to do it intentionally (or if he's that dumb), but just like in real life, it's unprofessional to talk that candidly about your previous place of employment. We may appreciate the honesty, but don't confuse it with the wrong way to handle the situation. Evaluating if the Jays additions will change the culture, mentioning a pitcher 'who has no friends', throwing Colby under the bus, speaking on behalf of Casey. All are very unprofessional remarks. Not to mention asking him what his 'Top Jays' are.... what the hell Elliott? Should of simply stated 'I had a great start to my career with the Jays and wish them the best of luck. Hopefully I can return someday in some capacity. However, my priorities are with making the Pirates everyday right now.'
  2. That whole conversation come off as extremely childish, especially the mention of his 'pitcher friend' who lost 'all his friends'. There was no reason to say that, other than to try and spurn an ex-lover (Jays).
  3. Not sure, but I believe Bell has FX Canada so it hopefully does not matter. (Fibe 1331) And I have had Fibe for the past two years and aside from the odd FX Canada games when Rogers was being a bitch, I was able to see every game.
  4. Not to mention it's hard to predict what sort of regression those two will see in two seasons (EE and Bau). At least for 2015, we can reasonably expect a similar output to 2014 for them. 2017 is a completely different story...
  5. I have no issue exploring this option as long as the term is reasonable (4 years?) and the per year number comes in between 15-18 mil. Assuming Buehrle moves on after next year, it would be nice to have another horse in the wings to eat 200+ innings. We would be eating value and restricting our other options, but I'm not very comfortable with hoping the 'kids' stick. Having Norris start in AAA and be the first man up if (let's be honest, WHEN) an injury occurs, seems like a better strategy than either hoping Estrada rebounds or that Norris repeats a Stroman like start. If we are actually planning on going for it this year, putting less dependancy on young unpredictable players is probably in our best interest. That being said, I probably would of been more comfortable if they spent this money on 2B and BP pieces earlier in the offseason.
  6. Intriguing, especially considering the janky delivery and armslot. We shall see.
  7. Don't mind a little off topic banter, but please change the title of the thread to 'The Good (Santiago), The Bad (Trannies), and the ugly (Belisario)'.
  8. Huh, and I thought we had an Off-Topic forum here...
  9. Interesting to see some of the responses... We all know the BP needs work, but I'm curious how much people are willing to give up to fix it. Prospects? Salary? Ability to fill in other holes on the roster? As BTS alluded to, is Janssen at 5 mil better than nothing at all?
  10. There's a reason they call him 'the Beest'...
  11. Jays come out looking dysfunctional in their CEO/President transition. This should blow over for them in about a month and may rear its ugly head once or twice more when it comes time to replace Beeston. Orioles come out looking like an organization that is firm and protective of its assets, yet inflexible and undesirable for anyone looking to advance their career. The demands for DD were always made in poor faith (Hoffman++? Really?), and their ability to block an exec from a promotion will permeate through the MLB. Suddenly the claims that O's jobs aren't desirable hold a ton more water. I don't like how the Jays went about this as a Jays fan; but as an O's fan, I'm not too happy about what has happened either. The simple solution from an O's perspective would of been to restructure the org so that Dan's title is lateral to the Jays one, thus making any poaching unfair and keeping the egg on Toronto's face. Oh well.
  12. I too like the rule on free agent signings. I also like that they allow 5+ year deals for team friendly extensions, if available. That being said, it puts more pressure on the team to develop talent and less on the wallet. Smart, considering the holes some of these MLB teams have dug with long term commitments.
  13. I definitely agree that the system in place is working. The ability to bounce back after the big trades is a testament to solid work. I am not saying the DD hire would necessarily be a good thing, just that I can see the logic behind giving AA another baseball mind to work with.
  14. By 'farm system' you mean 'list of prospects', which is the GM's job. There are many other 'systems' that go into developing MLB players; from dealing with affiliates, scouting personel, development personel and all the processes that go into the pipeline. AA's plate has always been too full (pardon the pun) as he has had to act as GM AND the major voice in baseball operations (Beeston's strength has always been the business side). Adding another smart mind into the fold to take on those operational responsibilities should not be a bad thing as it would hopefully free up AA to focus on player eval. and acquisition. That being said, who knows how much control DD would want in that side of the GM's job so... who knows.
  15. Dan's greatest work as O's GM isn't the player moves he made, but the systems he set up to help the Orioles create a decent pipeline for MLB talent. Hence the VP of Baseball Ops title. This is where I think he can help the Jays as Beeston is clueless to how this stuff works in 2015 and AA should be focused elsewhere.
  16. Both teams look a bit immature about how they have handled this. That being said, what the Jays are doing is not abnormal. Who knows if their 'timing' around the Winter Meetings was simply when the media picked up the scent, or if that was when they started the talks. If that was when they reached out, then I would say the Jays pursuit started in poor taste. Either way, the way Angelos has approach this is both childish and not aligned with league best practices. What's coming to light is the realization that the O's org is not an ideal place to try and advance your career. It appears that when you sign onto the O's, you are signing onto Angelos' way of life; which is far from optimal for most baseball professionals who want some form of flexibility in their career.
  17. The only conclusion that I can make of this entire mess.... is that there is a crapload of horrible national MLB reporters that have NO CLUE what is actually going on.
  18. Everyone needs to calm down, there is no way an Exec gets traded for a top 10 draft pick.... right? This Hoffman BS and tampering charges are all angling to try and get the best package. Hopefully the Jays sit back and watch the O's squirm as they continue to try and manoeuvre an offseaosn where their GM wants to be elsewhere.
  19. Haha I'm not buying Olney either. Although I fully expect the O's hangout to eat up this rumour while bashing Rosenthal for reporting what everyone already knew. Talk about eating and s***ing out of the same mouth.
  20. lol Bowden When did we start buying into what he is saying? I believe him about as much as I do Beeston's best friend, Mr. McCown.
  21. More great O's fan comments! ""chippy" is incorrect, it's commonly known as being a scumag move. Toronto is the worst, I can't stand the Yankees or the Sox either but the BJs I dislike because everything about them from that dump of a stadium to its d-bag players all they way back tDuluth Gaston, they are just a low class organization, who else pulls this crap right before the winter meetings, Beeson says he's staying another year and then this again, if they want DD that bad give up Pompey, Norris and a few MLB pieces if it's that important to get him" Followed directly by... "They don't seem to adhere to any sort if rules, which is part of what runs people the wrong way. But at the end of the day, nothing happens unless on the Orioles' terms."
  22. From the above Baltimore Sports Report article: "With four years remaining on his contract and the opportunity to leave for a division competitor, you could expect that the O’s would get a lot in compensation. One name that can be thrown around is Jeff Hoffman, the Blue Jays 2014 first round draft pick who has recently had Tommy John Surgery, which I would be okay with." http://baltimoresportsreport.com/peter-angelos-handle-dan-duquette-situation-56713.html It appears all media need to get a f***ing clue when it comes to this sort of thing. That being said, there is a discernible difference between this situation and the Farrell one. The Farrell one was NOT a promotion and required compensation given it was a lateral move. Thus, why some of the expected 'gets' for comp were a little outrageous (Ok, a lot outrageous). The only leverage the O's have for comp. in the DD scenario is the fact we are in the same division and that he has 4 years left on his contract.
  23. And by interesting, you mean a well spoken O's Hangout member. The article's only gripe with the Jays is timing, but they still think the Orioles should stand in Toronto's way UNLESS they offer an unreasonable compensation. Same BS, just conveyed in a less insane manner.
  24. I think the love with DD stems from the fact that the other options that have been presented so far are less than ideal. DD isn't perfect, but he's palatable in a search controlled by a multi-million dollar org. Better the devil you know than the one you don't.
  25. I do find it odd that DD's contract does not have an out clause for this exact reason. Most contracts have this sort of out clause that allows their stakeholder to explore other opportunities, as long as they are direct promotions and do not involve other parties from the org. (i.e., DD can't bring all his staff along). Either way, DD's silence in this is deafening and his relationship with the O's must be slightly strained in all this.
