  1. I agree. Weird things happen. Bad injuries happen. Having a few guys go down with serious injuries can happen. But the number of our pitchers who have gone down (3 TJS in one year) and guys coming back only to get injured again seems to be more than just bad luck. Maybe the training and medical staff should be replaced. Maybe they're missing something. I don't know. It just seems like a lot has happened in a short period of time. Reyes and Lawrie are understandable but when you have guys with TJS, long term strains it seems to be a bit much. Could just be on the outside of the Bell Curve and just horrible bad luck but maybe they should look into making a change with the training and medical staff especially down in the minors.
  2. What happened to Ortiz? I can't see it on TV and gameday didn't post a video of it yet? Seriously, is this team cursed? It seems they have had more injuries over the past few years than the rest of the league combined.
  3. I'd love to see him come back and play again. I'd like to see the Jays give him another shot. You never want to hear about someone's career coming to an end due to an injury especially in the beginning of a career. Hopefully he'll be able to make a comeback with some team and at least give it another shot to become a MLB player. Worse case it doesn't pan out and he can walk away saying he got another chance at it.
  4. Not to sound dumb, but is this based on their overall intelligence, their baseball intelligence, a combination of both or personality/interaction with media, fans intelligence?
  5. As much as I want to say the Blanco experiment is a failure, I don't think Thole will be up anytime at all. He's having a pretty good year thus far as a starter. I'd like to see him up because of the chemistry he and RA have. I might be giving AA more credit here than he might deserve, but maybe having him as a starter might make him more value in the event the Jays are looking to make a move as the deadline approaches. Someone might be willing to give Thole a starting gig or someone might get hurt and he'll be available to bring something in, especially to a contending team that might get desperate. Maybe he'll really shock everyone and deal JPA for a starter than promote Thole. I'd love to give Thole a chance but having him as RA's personal catcher and not more might only bring us back to where we are now, maybe a little more production. Then again anything more than what Blanco is doing now would help especially when the "Ace" is giving up so many runs this year.
  6. There's a full 4 months left to play. That's a lot of baseball, a lot of time for teams to fall apart, a lot of time to get better. The biggest problem is the rotation. We've been cycling through starters again and the only thing that's been consistent is the inconsistency. Our "Ace" is going to have to get out of the funk and got more than 5-6 without giving up as many runs. Morrow needs to do what he was doing last year (minus the injury) JJ and JA need to come back healthy and strong. Without a solid rotation, as we've seen lately, a winning streak of more than 2-3 games won't happen. This team will need to put together a bunch of wins in a row or at least win 3-4 before loosing one and picking it up again. That said, this team needs to get to .500 first. Then start to get above and stay above, at least 10 games above before even thinking about competing. They have to do more than roll over when going against division rivals. Hopefully they'll start playing better and the other teams' weaknesses will come out. As it stands right now, it's still a bit early to tell but if they don't start bailing out some of the water they're taking on, the ship will sink before you know it. The problem with this team over the past few years has been either the pitching or the hitting has come around but they haven't been able to sync it up for more than a little bit. The team getting healthy would be a nice start, including Marrow and RA if they're still going through their injuries as well.
  7. Might be the best way to do it. Maybe it'll encourage trade in the division. The other teams will know if they aquire the players they'll kill the Jays. Seriously though, it seems almost every one that's played for this team and stunk out loud goes to another and puts up better than average numbers. Some only manage it for a couple years but some seem to take off.
  8. I knew RA's numbers would go up a bit in the AL East but this is just horrible. All year long. He's faced this team before and he just gives runs back. Either he's hurt, he's fallen apart mentally, he's not adjusting well enough, he's too old, something is wrong. They're making contact too much, and solid contact.
  9. I guess it's whatever terms his contract call for but can't be worse.
  10. I knew his numbers would go up a bit in the AL East but didn't think he'd be like this. For what we gave up for him it's looking really bad.
  11. The Blanco experiment has run its course. I know they don't want Thole as a back up but at this point I'd rather see him up than someone who should have retired a few years ago. I'm sure they could get him in the line up more than "just a back up" if they want to. Why not pay him than some guy who is basically a waste of a roster spot?
  12. I'd say this year is more disappointing. 2009 was a surprise and a great start. We really didn't have the expectations nor the "talent" that was supposed to go out and win. It was a disappointment that they fell apart towards the end of the year but the season wasn't expected to be "the year." This year, after more years than most of us would like to count, we were given a lot of expectations and hope. Management FINALLY put their money where their mouths were and made a financial investment and went after proven players (well, a good number of them were anyway) with a mix of talent we had as hold overs. Then the season began and hope was pretty much dashed. For the first time in almost 20 years baseball was talking about the Jays and fans thought the time had finally come and then we're watching what is happening. Seems like every year we suffer injuries but this year we lost big with Reyes and other players on the DL or having issues all year long. A horribly slow start and a rotation that just fell apart and doesn't seem to be settling. With all that said, this year, by far was worse since the expectations were not only high but the team, should at the very least, be playing a lot better than a last place team.
  13. Certainly seems like it. Trying to catch lightning in a bottle once in a while works. Having a few guys as filler isn't a problem. having a few guys you know you can go to short term if you need to ie AAAA player who might fill a DL spot or time before a prospect is ready but constantly grabbing garbage and trying to make it work is horrible. It's not building the depth you need. We're paying the price for it now and have been for years.
  14. True. It's going to be a mess with all the people on the 60 Day DL.
  15. It's sad to see the fall of Romero. He was never an ace but he was at least a decent end of the rotation pitcher. He needs to head back to Single-A and be completely rebuilt a la Halladay. I doubt he'll ever be more than an end of the rotation guy but he's finished at this rate. Break him down and rebuild him. Like someone mentioned rock bottom might be the thing that either breaks him completely or helps him realize he needs to remake himself. It has to be mental with him. He seems to get into a jam and just makes it worse.
  16. He was placed on the DL March 31 retroactive to March 27 so he would be eligible to return now but that would wipe out the roster spot opened by Ortiz being DFA.
  17. Looks like Bautista was reminding Lawrie what happened when Hillenbrand decided to run his mouth back to Gibbons. Seriously, this guy is really starting to annoy me. It's inexcusable to pull what he does. He seems to think he's putting up MVP kind of numbers and is the heart and soul of the team. He has a couple good games, slumps, then gets a few hits in consecutive games and thinks he's a god. Too bad we didn't have the depth because sending him to AAA for a reality check and to work on his ability to get hits might work.
