  1. I have to agree. I think they've messed with his approach too much and he doesn't seem to be living up to his level (a trend in this organization.) Many prospect fizzle so if they can get something in return for him that is going to help from day one and hopefully another year or two at least, do it.
  2. It seems like there won't be any punishment coming so they'll do it and get away with it. They won't even tell Lawrie to calm down a bit when striking out. The front office seems to have a sit back and do nothing policy except claim it's handled "in house" and was "a one time thing." Instead of admitting they're playing like crap they have to take it out on someone. How about be professional and say how you don't agree, here's why, and not take shots at the media, analysts etc. If they're so hurt by a couple of nobodies that they don't have respect for, then why feed into it? Don't call someone out as being unprofessional and then do the same thing. You're public figures. Act like it. You get paid a lot of money and have expectations. If you can't handle it, walk away. You want to shut them up, play better. If you're playing top notch and they still complain ignore them. Easier said than done sometimes but stop making excuses and being little teenagers about it and man the hell up. It doesn't take a 5 time MVP, Hall of Famer to know the team is playing horrendously and certain players, especially the ones being touted as the team's core and who self promote, need to be better. Adam Lind is having a nice turn around but considering he's about a year removed from being sent outright where no other team wanted him, really shouldn't be mouthing off. You think someone else is out of line in their comments, don't sink to the level you think they're at. But I guess egos are bruised.
  3. Another case where it doesn't make sense being a last place team that's horribly inconsistent. He's not a young player. We're not making a push being within a few games of first place. It'll mean more than likely taking on money, sending money, sending at least a decent prospect from a farm that we're a bit bare in for what? A splash? Another news headline of the Jays making a big deal that doesn't amount to anything? I'm not trying to be myopic but this team seems to take one step ahead and 3 back. The rotation is injured, the guys who aren't injured are inconsistent and there seems to be chemistry issues in the clubhouse. Could they hit another win streak, yes. Likely, no. Unless it's controllable starters who can give the team a chance instead of the meltdowns of Wang, JJ and company who dominate one day, go out and play like sh*t the next few starts a move like this won't make much sense.
  4. I cower at what the price might be. The farm is a bit bare right now. We're not in 2nd place looking to make the push. I should say I cower at what AA might send to them. No extension should be a killer especially if we have to give something of decent value up. Then again, I don't see why we'd go after a middle of the rotation pitcher with health issues instead of someone who can actually lead the rotation. I don't see how he and/or Utely are going to turn the season around with the injuries and inconsistency from everyone else.
  5. I doubt AA sells. He might swap a guy like Oliver or a reliever, maybe Boni but that'll be it. He'll either do next to nothing or he'll go out and acquire yet another underachieving player with high upside that doesn't preform better than replacement while possibly taking on more money or giving away the last few pieces of the farm. Unless the team starts another 11 game winning streak, there isn't a point in buying so I'd sell whoever someone wants at the right prices. Guys like Buehrle aren't going anywhere based on the contract. I'd say Janssen would be someone to move since he has an option for next year and will serve well as a set up man at least in a contender's bullpen. Oliver because he's going to retire and maybe Texas or some contender will give up some cash or a half way decent minor leaguer in return. JJ if anyone wants a starter and will pay. You figure maybe one of the west coast teams or NL teams might want him since he'll be better in the NL anyway.
  6. He sounded like he was drunk even when he wasn't talking about Zaun and Hayhurst.
  7. If he was going to start Sunday, why call him up and waste a spot when a RP could be brought in to eat some innings in the mean time? He has to be up to do that and not start. If he's starting, I'm going to cry.
  8. Jenkins is on, or at least was the last time I checked, the 7-day DL in AAA so it won't be him unless he's able to come off by Sunday. Unless AA works some magic and brings in a decent starter, I wouldn't be surprised it being Weber, Romero or some scrap heap pick up.
  9. Almost "quality starts" if he went another inning in each start. Too bad he's on the DL down in AAA or he might get a start or two. He wasn't horrible up in the bigs. Too bad he's on the DL in AAA or maybe he'd get a few starts in place of Wang.
  10. Redmond is likely only up for a day or two, maybe 3 to eat some innings in the pen if needed since almost everyone pitched. I can't imagine him sticking around for too long.
  11. http://mlb.mlb.com/fancave/blog.jsp?content=article&content_id=51841418#fbid=3jYBy7Qwodz MLB Fan Cave has been up to a few things lately. This time it's a bit of meming (memeing?) They're trying to recruit people for Edwining, a meme for the Jays for Edwin's arm during his home run trot and are looking for people to post videos or photos of themselves doing it. I know, some people see it as boring or stupid but at the same time it's getting some Jays attention. Check out the video and if interested go for it, if not then don't.
  12. Can we just give Mauro Gomez a shot on the bench? .251 average but with 24 homers already he might have some pop off the bench instead of the swing and miss crew who barely get on as is?
  13. I figured they might bring someone up in case they headed into extras or JJ leaves early. Safety move to add an extra arm.
  14. I doubt it but maybe activating Oliver a couple days earlier?
  15. So, who gets called up tomorrow to eat innings after today's two game contest? I really hope Johnson can go 7-8 innings tomorrow.
  16. Ah! Good point. If he pitches horribly, he's gone and not really costing the Jays much and if he pitches well enough to stick around, another option.
  17. I was surprised it was a ML deal and not a minor league deal. Guess Ortiz will be out for a bit longer and they need someone to take over for him. We're kind of tapped out in depth though why not have Jenkins starting over the scrap? Hopefully he surprises everyone and makes a few decent starts.
  18. I highly doubt it, but maybe they're bringing Thole up to not only give RA his personal guy again, but see what he can do sneaking his bat in the line up as much as possible or get him used to the staff. Maybe teams are starting to inquire about JPA and AA might be willing to move him if someone offers the right price and wants Thole to already be here? Then again it could be to get Thole some time in the bigs to see if he can flip him. Just speculation. Probably nothing to it.
  19. On one hand, the idea doesn't seem like a bad one. He's off to a better than anyone expected start and seems to have regained the lost velocity that seems to be what got him hit hard. He's had success in the role and the Jays mentioned about a possibility of him starting again wasn't out of the question in the future. I think maybe once Oliver comes back or they have a lefty to stick there who's ready it might be a better time. But if he can take his success he's having and translate it to the starting rotation, it could be a huge boost. One the other hand it will weaken the bullpen from guy who can get a lefty out, pitch an inning, or more if need be. He's been a huge blow in the pen and has just been shutting down the other teams. If someone can't step in and replace that it might leave a hole but at the same time if he's going 5-6-7 innings in a start it might cancel out. He'd have to be stretched for a few starts. There's no telling if he'll be able to take his success as a reliever this year back to the rotation and this might be his niche a la Paul Quantrill. If they're going to bounce guys back and forth who are filler and nothing more why not give him a shot? I personally could go either way on it. If they need someone to start why not? It can't be a worse option unless he too gets hurt.
  20. Now we're tied up at 4 thanks to Lind!
  21. It' used to be "common sense" that if you can't locate your fastball you're finished before you start. They bring guys up from AA or sometimes lower levels. Give them a few innings, if that, then decide to send them back down because they still have work to do. They burn an option year, a roster spot, and wind up losing the guy on waivers or having to move the player because they run out of options before they're ready or their careers take longer since they're up before they should be. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Sanchez up at some point. I can see if the guy is almost ready and shows great command of his pitches. Some are ready sooner but it seems, like they did with Nolan this year, of grabbing guys for a spot start when they could just use a AAAA guy since they ship them down anyway.
  22. True might be able to tread water for a bit. I forgot JJ will be back in a couple days. Rogers might be back in the rotation too. I wouldn't be surprised if they even try McGowan as a starter. I can see them saying that Happ will be back at some point too. That'll likely be the game plan as usual. Tread water, make a waiver claim or a minor trade after ground is lost and kind of shrug shoulders.
  23. They'll have to look outside the organization now. Most of the guys in AAA have been called up, just got there or aren't anything to bring up. You know the waiver claims will be coming. Hopefully AA can find a decent guy to bring in. If not someone will be rushed into the job.
  24. It sounds like something just isn't going right. Too many young guys getting hurt and staying hurt. They've also rushed guys up too early which doesn't help and have drafted some guys who looked promising but failed to get above A ball leaving the system a bit bare. That's going to happen. High draft picks can fail but it seems a lot in this organization. It seems like they're doing the same thing over and over and crossing their fingers.
