  1. Agreed. I've never understood the little squares. I can't see it being that much more of a pain to make the IF all dirt anyway.
  2. I remember that rumour floating. Didn't JPR balk at it wanting a pitcher (Lilly, who he really never planned on resigning) over Howard? Or am I not remembering correctly? Wasn't there something about the Mets offering David Wright (when he was in A ball) for Cruz Jr?
  3. Wait? What? Seriously? He's blaming the BP's ERA for why this team isn't in the playoffs? Does he just reach into a hat and pull out something to blame? Yes, the pen let us down, especially earlier on, and fell apart in some games but that's only one problem compared to what happened this year. JFC
  4. I am scared to see what AA Does as far as the relievers. He's publicly stated he wants to improve the pen and we know he doesn't like to tip his cards so I see other GMs bending him over more than usual or even the 3rd tier, or AAAA agents extorting him into higher contracts which might hamstring the other areas more so than it might be now.
  5. lol did JJ even throw a single pitch in ST? IIRC he was on the DL almost as soon as the ink dried and then his 2nd TJS came along. I could see that happening to Morrow. Here's an $8M contract to an injury prone player (though he swore to us he wasn't so we gave him that money) only to go down with some new injury.
  6. http://m.bluejays.mlb.com/news/article/96710722/manager-john-gibbons-eyes-ending-torontos-postseason-drought-in-2015 My apologies if this has been posted or mentioned elsewhere but without actually reading it or watching the video, isn't this basically the same crap we've heard for years? Always next year. We'll get them next year. We were close, failed, but the same team that failed to make the post season will some how do it next year? I guess the longest stretch without a playoff berth has to end sometime statistically speaking but this FO seems to watch everyone else get pissed at failure, go out and try to improve and they just cross their fingers and say "if we stay healthy and everything goes our way."
  7. That might mean the Jays were at least pretending to punish some kind of failure or hold someone responsible. We know that's not going to happen unless it's really obvious, it's years of failure under the same group of people and only if Gibbons was about to resign anyway or they handed him a check and said take one for the team. you'd think they'd at least come up with some scapegoat other than "injuries" or at least own up to the injuries plus a complete failure to understand a bench needs to be strong all year or at least have better options in the minors to fill in long term should something go wrong like it seems to every year.
  8. I'm assuming it was mostly the same BS he spews just with some additions ie the date, the names of a few players who he thinks did well or somehow is convinced will be All Stars after a few weeks of success, thinks the team is a WS contender as is and will work on fine tuning a few things along with if the team is healthy we win without really answering any questions and making the entire event redundant?
  9. Damn even Gose said he's going deep.
  10. Probably for the same reason why Gibbons has used Loup in blow outs and losing games.
  11. Wow! I knew I shouldn't have run to the store. They broke out the bats while I was gone. DAYUM!
  12. I don't see Morrow or McGowan being picked up but I could be wrong. I have the feeling they'll give McGowan another chance, telling him to prepare as a starter again in the off season and he'll be back in the pen and they'll cite CJ being a FA and our pen costing us games in April to keep him around. Morrow I could see them bringing him back at a lower amount but he seems to be bent on finding a starting role somewhere. I think they'll decline his option, offer him a lower deal, and see what happens. I doubt he finds a deal for too much to start when he couldn't make more than a handful of OK starts the past few years and the injury risk. I'd like to see him back, maybe at McGowan's $4M to see if he could be a set up man or potential closer (if no one else is brought in) just to see if he can hold up and be useful in a relief role. Maybe give him a year with an option and see. I think Lind and Thole are guarantees since Thole is RAD bff and Lind might have had his power zapped but he hits righties well, solves a DH/1B role and isn't that expensive compared to what other guys might cost unless they think Johnson or Francisco can do the same job at cheaper. I could see Lind and JA Happ being picked up and potentially traded if the right deal comes along. I think Happ more than anyone could be picked up and traded since we have the young arms, he's done a fairly OK job lately in the rotation and some team might need to fill out their rotation at cheap (maybe the Jays eat a little money to make him a bit more interesting especially if a desperate team offers a prospect or maybe a bad deal for bad deal that nets the Jays a 2B/3B) which would open a spot for Sanchez or Norris/Nolin. The sad thing is I can see all of them being picked up (exception being Morrow) because that's how AA operates. AA likes his "assets" and doesn't like to give anyone a walking card. I'd actually like to have Happ back because it seems every year something goes wrong with the rotation (injury, someone sucks out loud) but since Morrow will likely be gone or in the pen if he's back that might be one less problem to worry about although weird s*** happens. Who knows if next year MB finally hits the DL or RA Dickey pulls a groin again but needs a break? Either way AA has his work cut out for him if he wants to try and seem like he's building a competing team again.
  13. I have a bad feeling the pen will be in trouble next year. Itll be filled like usual AAAA guys via wavier claims or minor league FA and the BS about how there isn't anyone out there at the price we want to pay. I'd say bring Morrow back at a reduced salary if he's interested and seeing if he'll at least get a chance to close unless someone beats him out. It seems like Cecil is probably going to be it. I can't see them spending a good chunk of cash on a closer or giving up pieces they dont' have for one. See if Morrow will come back, guarantee him his buyout and some extra ($2-3M more maybe?), rework the deal he has now if he's interested, tell him they want him to be in the pen to potentially close and if someone else is brought in he can fight for a starting role. Worse case he says no, he leaves, the end. Cecil is probably the best internal option since Sanchez will/should be a starter next year but they might decide to keep him there out of desperation for at least one year. I really don't want to see too many of the starting prospects in relief roles next year simply because AA can't figure out how to bring guys in or evaluate bullpen arms.
  14. And he's not standing there all pissed off like it's someone else's fault.
  15. LOL!!! I think that kid's swing is too close to the turkey for it to be Pillar
  16. So, let's just keep replacing the turf and making it "new" turf instead of saying f*** the Argos and going to full grass already? This reminds me of JPR ******** of instead of putting a quality team on the field (OK a few weren't horrible under his watch) he just kept changing the team's logo (I think there were more changes and alt jerseys under his tenure than in team history combined) and just keep BSing everyone instead of actually doing something to win. Piss money away on new turf and think that'll help a hapless player in Reyes instead of telling move the f*** to 2B or unloading him to whatever team is willing to take on as much of his salary as possible or give up anything for him. Didn't they just buy new turf a few seasons ago? Didn't they buy some new brand right after AA took over and then just bought new Astroturf not too long ago? Why not just buy new bases or padding for the walls and/or railings and claim the new padding will keep Lawrie from falling into a camera well and getting hurt?
  17. Worse case he accepts, we have him back on a one year deal, they repeat the same next offseason if they don't deal him at the deadline next year. Worse case he declines, Jays net a pick, he cashes in elsewhere and the Jays stick whomever in LF. I have the feeling he'll be back unless someone comes out of the woodwork and offers him a multiyear deal. Maybe they'll try to give him a 2-3 year deal or some kind of deal since there is mutual interest and the Jays have to do something to save face and make it look like they're not going to repeat the cycle of incompetence of blowing their load early, getting close to the playoffs, not doing enough to make a push, falling out of it, getting back into it, only to let players walk and stick in some AAAA player or some "prospect" who simply doesn't cut it and by no means comes close to what they lost/gave away.
  18. Yeah keep bitching about that pitch, Bautista. That'll make up for you popping it up.
