  1. Madson would be behind Cecil and Osuna on the depth chart paying him $7M to be the 3rd or 4th guy (I'd rather give Sanchez those innings anyways) would be a huge waste of payroll.
  2. Smoking by laws will still be in effect meaning you'll never see grass in the stands
  3. $20M per? Now that's crazy.
  4. Agreed, they should put up similar numbers and flexibility in a couple years > then a few extra innings.
  5. It's just the way FA works but I'd agree that good FO's avoid bad deals especially long ones. I don't mind the AAV; $8M per win (and have a team friendly option at the end) seems about right but 5yrs is a too much for a mid-rotation pitcher.
  6. That's exactly it. People forget that you don't get paid in FA for what you are going to do you get paid for what you've already accomplished. And Leake has been better despite being younger.
  7. Leake throws it harder, gets more ground balls, throws more innings. and projection systems have him as being better. Leake is 28yo and Estrada is 32yo.
  8. Seems like a false narrative. FIP Home v Away = 3.96 v 3.74 xFIP Home v Away = 3.97 v 3.81 Obviously more to it than simply comparing DIPS but I think Chavez will be pretty good at the RC. IMO you outlined exactly why they needed a guy like Chavez. You hope Hutch can bounce back and if you do you have a very good longman and 6th SP when injuries hit. If Hutch doesn't bounce back you have a gaping hole in the rotation and no viable replacement (Hutch, Sanchez, then Jenkins?) for the rotation. Ultimately I'll take a good high leverage guy (like Hendriks) over a longman (Chavez) but they needed depth and Hendriks was behind 4 or 5 guys for high leverage innings. May as well trade a guy that would be underutilized for someone who fills a big need. TLDR: Due to the glut of high leverage arms Hendriks isn't as valuable to the Jays as Chavez
  9. He's never thrown more than 70 innings. He threw 65% more innings last year than his previous career high. He isn't going to jump up 100IP (to the 170 inning range you'd expect from a SP) this year so he isn't going to start. It's not even really an option. Hutch may make the team as the 5th starter but then the BP will be even better.
  10. So Hutch is making the team as the 5th SP? I think you're more likely to see Cecil, Osuna, Sanchez and Delabar get the high leverage innings. Loup, Schultz, Biagini, and Tepera round it out. That's pretty good. Let's also remember that Osuna is not in the competition for a starting job. He threw a career high 69IP last year and needs to build a lot of innings before moving to the rotation.
  11. I believe it was Jon Heyman who came out with the report today but there have been others throughout the off-season. As you had said it seems like they'd prefer to move Andrus. That being said if they're listening there is a chance he gets moved.
  12. You don't need to tank for good prospects in the MLB. You need to get down int o the 10 range and then augment that through international spending and compensation picks (sign a bunch of guys who are looking for 1 yr deals and playing time, some of which will pan out) then be opportunistic with your bonus pool and assets like the Cubs were with Bryant and Arietta.
  13. There was a report earlier today that they've been talking to teams about him. No deal was made so I don't think they're too motivated to make something happen but by all accounts they're listening which is why I brought it up.
  14. Has anyone given thought to adding Profar as a buy low depth guy? I've been infatuated with him for a long time and see a chance to take a chance on him. Obviously, he'd bump Goins as the primary backup MIF'er but I'm quite alright with that and keeping Goins as some kind of defensive replacement and depth guy for when injuries hit. Anyone have a sense of what it would take? I know Texas has been looking at OF'ers all off-season and the Jays have a few attractive ones.
  15. Well Alford has more upside, so it's going to boil down to what you're prioritizing, risk or current talent level? I like them both and have a hard time picking one or the other. Let me ask you who would win a Pompey for Alford trade? I don't have a definite answer so 1A and 1B in my books.
  16. He has no idea what the materials they need area and working construction does not mean you have any idea of the cost of materials. I'm sure he knows how to source materials and provide a quote but w/o knowing the materials how can he say it's cheaper? Lots of the big construction materials have increased in price. Steel has gone up, concrete has gone up. That's basically what makes up the RC, steel and concrete. We're also talking about improving a stadium something I'm guessing Spanky has absolutely 0 experience with.
  17. Ya, but he wasn't expecting it at all and it just catches the plate. If Ortiz is sitting CB then he crushes that pitch
  18. You can get anything you want but that doesn't mean the materials weren't imported or that the raw materials weren't exported, processed and then imported back in to Canada.
  19. IMO Alford and Pompey are 1A and 1B and still very similar prospects.
  20. Stop what? Asking basic questions?
  21. The only other one I could find was Norris striking out Ortiz in his debut. Looks like a pretty good CB though.
  22. What are you basing that on? It's going to depend on the specific materials. Also importing when the dollar is weak generally makes things more expensive. There is a very good chance some of the materials are being sourced from outside of Canada meaning that currently it would cost more for the materials. That being said labour is technically cheaper right now and that will be a large portion of the cost.
  23. Shapiro also said they're still considering adding an all dirt infield for next season. I like that idea.
  24. Is this the one?
  25. Well he had a career year at the age of 32yo thanks to some mid-season adjustments that I believe should carry over.
