  1. The fourth installment of the EXCELLENT Dave Steib docuseries on YouTube is up. I may have missed it before, because it was posted 2 days ago...
  2. The goal should be getting the most at bats to your best players, more ABs for Espinal at the expense of ABs for Springer isn't ideal. Obviously the C, 3B, and LF spots contributing almost nothing offensively and your RF going down (though, I haven't heard anything about him actually being unable to play. It looked bad, but unless I've missed it there hasn't been any reporting on prognosis) are going to complicate lineup construction. If protection is your goal, swap Vladdy and Bo (that's probably the better configuration regardless...) Springer Vladdy Bo LGJ Chapman Kirk Biggio/Espinal Tilapia Zimmer A lot less terrifying than it looked in the off season... BUT we're still 4-2 and tied for first place in the ALE for now.
  3. Despite Espinal coming up big in some key places this season, he's not actually doing all that well from a strictly numbers standpoint. Obviously SSS applies (but it also applies to those people who want to make him into some kind of baseball god...) wRC+ 99 OBP .316 OPS .705 His xwOBA is good at .428, but that's about the only number that looks good. Also, 0 walks in 19 PAs is not great, Bob. Also, damn has Kirk been having a shitsack of a year so far. (SSS again, obviously).
  4. Yeah, this happened here and there, what I don't recall happening was just like Kirk just basically skipping from A to the MLB. Outside of Olerud who went from draft pick to MLB w/o playing a single game in the minors.
  5. It was a worthwhile risk, he'd put up ~8 WAR in the previous 4 seasons, and was still pretty young. If he'd continued on a ~2 WAR/season pace the contract would have been solid. In the grand scheme of things, $10M/year isn't going to kill any team, but he obviously ended up not even being worth that.
  6. What a stupidly amazing performance from Vladdy tonight. I mean, can you believe we're watching this guy play baseball?
  7. Yankees got an exception to build a NEW stadium though. That's a huge difference.
  8. f***ing camera man almost gave me a heart attack.
  9. Zimmer looked so awkward patting Vladdy on the shoulder
  10. Alright, I'll give it to them, that did work.
  11. I'd say a decent chance Biggio gets that. He's a good 2B. He doesn't get to it AS EASILY as Espinal though.
  12. Jesus Christ these umps. "Borderline" says Tabby.
  13. Well, not happy that Vladdy got stepped on, but not being removed from the game is a good sign.
