  1. So, we're down a bench player, but added another pitcher...
  2. SSS alert but: Okay, I just can't get this embed code to work...
  3. We JUST made the Giants look pretty silly, I'm not going to concede 2/3 to them quite yet.
  4. Assuming 500 abs (for the sake of simplicity) the difference between .270 and .320 is 25 hits. 25 hits over 162 games works out to an extra 0.15 hits per game, or an extra hit every 6.6 games. (rounding all over the place...) So the difference between a great hitter and a decent hitter is about 1 hit a week. MATH! Ruining baseball fun since like, forever! Edit: 500 abs is picked arbitrarily, but to pick a player that is generally an "every day" guy, Robinson Cano, he had 627 abs last year, so the difference for someone who plays every day is a bit more than 1 hit a week, the point stands and this way the math was easier for me.)
  5. Professional drinking is about all I'm qualified for!
  6. Hrmm... DeRosa and Lawrie WOULD make a cute couple.
  7. a) he doesn't need to tell US anything, and by being completely honest about things like this he is possibly putting himself at a disadvantage (for example "Hello Rival GM, I don't really NEED your third baseman, but if you want to part with him I'll give you less than I would be forced to if I was in a particular bind...") it's possible he doesn't, in fact, know. He's not (to my knowledge) a doctor, so he's relying on his staff, and the word of the players. Frankly, I could care less if "lies" to the fan base about the severity of injuries.
  8. LaRoche isn't on the 40 man, which means more of a headache if he's called up... Goins, Mario Gomez and Clint Robertson are the only infielders on the 40 man not currently on the 25 man (or the DL)
  9. It was funny, but it wasn't really a joke. That man could hit balls a LONG way.
  10. I wonder, if I somehow get my name on the waiver wire, how long until I'm pitching in the dome?
  11. So, basically "old, white Mike McDade"
  12. Dibs on "old fat guy who sort of switch hits but is terrible from the left side of the plate and who is a defensive liability anywhere but first base!"
  13. Yeah, scouts say that kind of thing all the time about prospects, and almost all of them fail... It's not really uncommon for a can't miss prospect to flame out huge.
  14. That was HILARIOUS. "you people pointing out what makes a baseball player good makes players want to be good and then they are bad!"
  15. His discipline has been incredible this year, and let's hope this is a change he has worked at, and can keep going.
  16. There's a reasonable chance that he's the best guy they could recall right now, and it would save them a 40 man roster headache later... Neither would shock me...
  17. *shrug* at least I was comparing apples to apples... I was just already on b-r at the time.
  18. Unless they DFA McGowan, he's going to have to take that spot fairly soon anyway, and this would solve ONE of the impending 40 man catastrophucks that's coming.
  19. His 4 years of pitching he put up a combined 3.5 WAR. He was a greatly hyped prospect who failed at the MLB level long term, like... Y'know... Most of them. RR Cool Jay (which is awesomely listed as his nickname on b-r.com, and for which I can't help but feel partially responsible.) had a 6.3 WAR in 2011 alone.
  20. How do you get negative numbers in this game?
  21. Is McGowan eligible? If so, I would like it to be him...
