  1. And if you don't acknowledge the reality of the fact that in the 80s (when I grew up) and presumably other decades both before and after that that children were coached into gender-specific jobs, then I guess you're forgetting history and/or you grew up outside of it. The reason people are encouraging young girls into interest in STEM is to expose them to stuff that young girls traditionally weren't exposed to, and give them the opportunity to see if it's something they like. It's a net-plus for the species.
  2. It's not about girls specifically getting into STEM, it's about girls (and boys) being given myriad options, instead of being told "hey, you're going to be this or this and THAT'S IT". The problem isn't with admissions to colleges, or with job discrimination (necessarily), it's with the way they are directed when they're young.
  3. Be honest here for a sec... When you were 8 (assuming you're not like 15 now, which I honestly don't know...) how many boys were told to grow up to be doctors and lawyers v/ how many girls were told that? Let's maybe say 8 wasn't the age, how about 12?
  4. Hitler was unquestionably a better leader than Trump. I'm not saying he was a better person, but he was very much a better leader.
  5. Young girls are f***ing FINALLY being encouraged to now, this is an improvement in society. I'm turning 40 in a bit over a week, when I was 8, girls were told to play with Barbie dolls and get into teaching or nursing. Hopefully by the time the current group of 8 year olds are my age, there will be a f***tonne of women in STEM. Also, hopefully your favourite megalomaniac won't have caused a nuclear war...
  6. You need to do your research man, why would you vote in a non-swing state? That was just a waste of gas money.
  7. You are objectively wrong. You got the worst political leader since two guys decided who should be in charge of the cave, BUT, this is a baseball forum (as much as it doesn't seem like that), so I don't really want to get into the weeds on this one.
  8. See, here's your problem with this line of thinking... "women don't want these kinds of jobs" is because that's basically how a lot of women are raised, the problem isn't that there aren't openings for women, any competent hiring manager would hire the best qualified person, but because women are discouraged from a young age from pursuing STEM, they don't. Frankly, I think that's a very, very stupid way to raise kids, and it's probably costing us some damn good STEM types that could be doing amazing things for us as a society. If Elon Musk had chosen a female form when he came to our planet, I think we'd probably be a lot better off.
  9. Oh god... another one of these.
  10. Look, I agree with the premise that men have an advantage in many workplaces (I work in I.T., I have literally worked with 1 woman in the 10 years I've been doing this...) but "every single field" is some dumb f***ing s***. Nursing, teaching, flight attendants. I'm not saying they're CEOs, but those are f***ing fields.
  11. Probably okay in a pinch? Better than the backups we had last year (which you wouldn't know about... )
  12. Second best manager we've had in my lifetime (Bobby Cox 4 lyfe!)
  13. Honestly, just don't pitch to Stanton ever again. I don't care if you're up 10-0, the bases are loaded with 2 outs in the 9th... Just intentionally walk him.
  14. This team would be better if Morales wasn't on it. I won't disagree. But it's poor asset management to just DFA him and eat the rest of his contract. They're doing what makes sense with the assets they have and their financial commitments
  15. Problem is, there's a lot of money invested in Pearce and Morales. a Teoscar/Pearce platoon makes no sense as they're both righties, so they needed a platoon mate for him, and they got Granderson on a SUPER affordable contract. This is not just "best team on the field", this is "best use of assets".
  16. If Alford is starting over anyone, it should be Pillar. Grichuk is going to be a solid as f*** player on this team.
  17. Yeah, that 9 pitch at bat really sucked.
  18. "Mike Stanton" Thanks, Buck.
  19. If Vlad and Bo are up before September, that's just awful, awful asset management.
  20. I'm shocked that wasn't overturned, not because it was a definitive overturn, but because Yankees.
  21. Yeah, that was a dumb trade the day it was made, and it's even dumber in hindsight.
  22. Hey, at least Judge and Stanton are both way uglier than most of the Jays. We've got that going for us!
  23. 96 pitches on the first game of the season. Don't be a f***ing idiot.
  24. Happ is looking solid today.
  25. Really? I've always hated their broadcast team.
