To be fair, I turned this game on when it was 15-1, I haven't seen him much in this game, and I've jinxed him hard apparently. He looked really good keeping the ball out of the middle of the plate last time I saw him though.
Jaime Garcia has never put up as much WAR as Godley put up in 2017, and he was worth 3 total WAR the two seasons before the Jays picked him up. Not saying that Godley will be the staff ace in 2020, just that he's got a solid recent track record so there's reason why you might think he'd be in the mix for a rotation spot next season.
He was worth 5.9 WAR between 2017 and 2018. Having a bad year this year, clearly, but he's 29 and has shown recently that he can be a positive contributor. Nothing wrong with thinking he'll be a potential piece for next year.
