  1. The mistakes he makes are first base specific errors, mostly picks and playing balls that he should let the 2B get. You don't really "pick" the ball at 3B, and you go for every single ball that you can get to. I'm not saying he's a good fielder (or ever will be), but the bulk of the mistakes he's making are because they're things you simply don't do at 3B. Suggesting he's not ready for the MLB is just dumb. What do you want him to do? Go back to the minors so he can demolish AAA pitching again? What is he going to learn doing that?
  2. He's played a total of 28 games at first base in his entire professional career.
  3. Vladdy crushed that f***ing ball, 116.1. .760 xBA
  4. Every hitter on the team looks lost lately...
  5. I haven't played or watched softball in like 30 years, so... I'm rusty on the rules.
  6. Throw over until you get him, like... hundreds of times if needed.
  7. Bunting should be an automatic out and a dead ball. Bunting is stupid and boring baseball.
  8. Bunting is not the main mistake he makes. I mean, it's *A* mistake that he makes, but things like not walking Harper with first base open and 2 outs are much bigger, and more glaring errors (I mean, the goddamn broadcasters called that one out...). He seems to have no idea beyond "I feel like..." when deciding if/when to pinch hit, or when making pitching changes... It's just... I mean, there are myriad things that he does to impact the game, and he makes the wrong decision time and time again. He manages with his gut, that's f***ing asinine in 2020.
  9. And if the mistakes he made were all meaningless, this would be a valid point.
  10. Based on my clear memory of Daniel Norris being the only piece anyone was particularly bothered to be giving up. Perhaps had I phrased it "nobody expected Boyd to become the best player surrendered in that trade" it would have been more accurate. Regardless, "guy who was the 58th best pitcher by WAR over a 5 year period" isn't something we should be SUPER upset about giving up in a trade that brought back an incredibly helpful piece in a playoff race. And if you sort by FIP, he's the 131st best (qualified) pitcher over that time frame. Yes, I realize I'm including some relievers, while you limited your statement to starters, but I'm not interested enough in the minutiae of this argument to do any more digging.
  11. I didn't say he wasn't good, I was saying "it's not an argument that you don't trade prospects". We got 2.6 WAR outta David Price in 11 games outta that trade, and he was a big part of us making the playoffs in 2015 for the first time in 21 years. I make that trade all day, every day both at the time and in hindsight. Syndergaard would be the argument you would make against trading prospects, and that deal was universally panned at the time and in retrospect. Also, absolutely nobody at the time saw Boyd as being as good as he has become.
  12. Hard to see him ever getting an MLB contract again if he misses all of next season. I wouldn't feel comfortable giving a 39 year old recovering from TJS anything but a MiLB deal, regardless of their HOF credentials. That being said, some s***** team trying to save money but still draw fans might give him a novelty contract...
  13. Norris has put up 5.1 WAR in the 5 years since we traded him, Jeff Hoffman (in 66 total games) has put up 0.7 WAR in the 5 years since we traded him. Matt Boyd has put up 8.6 WAR in the 5 years since we traded him. These are not arguments for "don't trade your pitching prospects, they could become amazing!"
  14. In 1987 the Jays choked out of a playoff spot. In 2020 the Jays may choke out of "Everybody Gets a Trophy Day". Not remotely comparable.
  15. I can't wait until the Skydome is filed with "16th best team in the league, but we made the playoffs!" banners.
  16. But like, are the mind and body even REAL man? Like, if you really think about it?
  17. Fisher couldn't get it to the cutoff man on the fly... Geebus.
  18. Looks like the director has given up too...
  19. Fisher needs to overcome his fear of baseballs. I suggest:
  20. He literally got hit in the face on a play in the outfield last year.
  21. That's PROBABLY a homer in a big-boy stadium, but just barely.
  22. They'll be back the SECOND he hits a ball on the ground...
  23. AND he's coming up from A ball, so he wasn't even getting an AAA salary before this. Probably like $50 a month and anything he could find in the hotel couch.
  24. That would make sense, he was a butcher back there.
  25. Man, I thought in my head "Navarro wasn't great, but he had a productive career". Then I checked, 1009 games played. Exactly 0.0 WAR That's actually incredibly impressive, he was EXACTLY replacement level over his career.
