  1. Deck McGuire was about as safe a pick as you could get and that turn out much better. Drafting for elite talent for me is the way to go, although I don't even agree about how risky some of our players are. The problem is a lot of fans still get excited and hopeful over guys putting up ridiculously bad k/BB rates as hitters. The guys in our system right now at least finally seeem like a bunch of GOOD hitters at pretty important positions. We finally have some players in our system that seem to have all around hitting talent.
  2. The idea is they want to develop elite prospects, because you can get the other type of player easily enough. They are always available through trade or FA, but the elite guys are not. It is a good strategy, not to mention these are the kind of guys other teams want to trade for. When they are dealing for prospects, teams want the high ceiling prospects they can sell to their fans.
  3. How is any of this even true. Stroman was considered one of the closest to the majors when drafted. He was a safe pick unless you are saying he wsn't based completely on his height. They have had more than a few early, safe picks.
  4. Nah. It confirms either Infante didn't want to play on turf, or that AA wasn't as excited about him as the some war worshippers on this site. Infante should never have been paid 4/40 like some on here are saying, not at all. I don't want to watch him aging with us.
  5. Guys not wanting to play on the turf is a real thing. Whether right or wrong they probably believe it is a career shortener. There is a reason well beyond just fan experience that Rogers is planning to move to an all grass field. For an aging infielder like Infante I could imagine him just not wanting to play here being a factor.
  6. Yeah he's no Kyle Kendrick
  7. #newmarketinefficiencyftw Come on. All you TB fanboys will love this after hearing the Rays also had interest.
  8. 13 walks already... what. The organization has been saying for a while he has some ridiculous power that just hasn't played in games yet. Maybe he is our DHOTF.
  9. We can ban people who do this now, right?
  10. Rumors? Maybe even a move whether small or big. What should I be expecting. When was the last time our team was involved in such a small amount of rumors?
  11. This winter meetings is just horrible. So boring.
  12. Blue Jays COULD have Ubaldo Jimenez on their radar... Well.... yeah. Thanks Pleskoff.
  13. Yeah I said that.
  14. Would enjoy getting Castro as a change of scenery guy, but not at the expense of Lawrie obviously. Although I do think at this point Bautista would possibly be better suited at 3B than in the outfield, the loss in defense would be huge.
  15. Living in Asia during the winter meetings is just horrible. I wish I could fall asleep now and wake up at 11 when the rumors start flowing again.
  16. No kidding he was. With how motivated he is I'm sure he offered something pretty good too. Probably turned him down and took this other offer. Later we will keep hearing of how we should have acquired Fister or Skaggs when those teams were probably not interested in packages that would have already made people here uncomfortable. The lack of understanding of some of these concepts (ie: player preferences, GM preferences, other teams scouting having different opinions than BA or BP etc...) is astounding during most of the complaining sessions that go on here.
  17. Maybe signing back just to retire with the club can show some other players at the meetings that playing for the Jays isn't so bad.
  18. Pretty depressing way to start the winter meetings but definitely an awesome, class-act move by Halladay. He was really appreciate here by the fans, it's too bad he couldn't win here with us.
  19. Disappointing. I think most of us figured he was a pitcher who could stick around into his early 40s.
  20. Not much else it could be if it isn't roster or coach related
  21. Then the question would be whether a Rasmus extension would be something to be excited about. Probably, extend him probably on a good deal and if he has a big year we can definitely trade him or Gose.
  22. Looks like I'll be staying up tonight. Probably an extension? Rasmus? I'm sure people will get all over this and get the word out early.
  23. What a dumb reply. Oh is it documented in a book? The market dried up. Oh my! It's in a book. It's straight from AAs mouth he was working on trying to acquire Dickey at the winter meetings, while there were good FA starters on the market. Maybe just maybe that indicates that it wasn't an "ohh shiit, we're screwed let's do something stupid" moment, which is what you are implying by comparing it to us dumping Wells on the Angels. GMs have many balls in the air at the same time. Dickey was one of his top targets that offseason, so trading for him is not comparable to the Angels missing out on everyone and getting desperate - at all. Waiting to see what a pitcher like Sanchez was going to go for before making the trade doesn't mean he was backed into a corner. It's how any GM should have done it.
  24. Nah. Haven't a lot of people here played fantasy baseball? I'm sure this has happened to most active fantasy players. Where there have been times where they felt their team legitimately lined up well with another, really wanted a player and tried to make fair offers, only for the owner not to bite, then soon after trade that player for what you'd consider a worse package. You can say it's just fantasy, but there are definitely GMs a lot dumber than a lot of the guys I played fantasy baseball with. AA is one of the GOOD gms in the game. I really have no doubt about that. There is really zero predicting what players the GM of Seattle would be interested in.
  25. What a dumb post. AA always said last year he was more likely to trade than sign free agents. Wells was Wells and Dickey was coming off a Cy Young. These two situations are not comparable in any way.
