  1. And the Jays would be stuck with a CEO that just got stabbed in the back and who doesn't seem like the brightest bulb at the best of times.
  2. Does he still come out to "Shipping up to Boston"? That alone would drive me nuts.
  3. I can only assume that Toronto had some interest but no intention of taking on all the salary. I must say, talented or not, I'd pretty much hate to have Papelbon on the team I root for. He's such a tool.
  4. I'm down with this. Is Dan Duquette really worth dealing with Angelos externally and staging a palace coup internally? Probably not. Beeston has to go but this is kind of a f***ed up way of doing it. There's been talk about how this has probably been hindering Baltimore's off season but it may be getting in the way of AA finishing off his off-season too since Beest is the one who signs off on his moves.
  5. He's trouble but with Travis waiting in the wings, the Jays would at least have a plan B if they decide to cut bait. Signing him would make a considerable amount of sense but it would also fly in the face of the whole notion of creating a positive clubhouse.
  6. It flies in the fact of everything we've been told about the Jays payroll situation. If they can't sign a prominent free agent unless they heavily backload the contract, how do they suddenly have 13M per season for Papelbon in 2015 and 2016? It also, as you mentionned, flies in the face of reason because that should be more than enough to sign K-Rod.
  7. Last night I dreamt the Jays signed Shield to something absurdly reasonable like a 3 year deal. I don't typically make dreams like that. The funny thing is that it wasn't even a surreal dream like the kind that makes no sense when you wake up. In my dream, I learned about the signing the way I ususally do. My phone buzzed and I checked it and it was the signing. Perfectly banal. Even now it feels more like something that happened than something I dreamed.
  8. I remember ranking him as the top pitcher in the system at one point. Loved what he was doing in the minor leagues and what TDott says about him essentially moving up too fast to generate prospect hype is something I've argued a few times myself.

  10. Sanchez wouldn't get listed on a list of top left-handed pitching prospects. Sanchez is a right-hander.
  11. If you're so concerned about his CF defense, you can just carry a Dewayne Wise type in AAA for whenever you need more than a spot replacement.
  12. And you wouldn't even pay him league minimum... Look I get that you don't like him and don't like his skill set but that bias doesn't negate the fact that he produces value and that his value increases if he's only taking up league minimum. I really can't see how you came come to your conclusion unless you're a) just being a contrarian or value your own bias/opinion more than facts.
  13. Definitely good acquisitions from an organizational perspective. MLB impact probably depends on other things going wrong but depth is never a bad thing.
  14. You're far too young to act so old.
  15. A big baby from the sound of things. I can't believe something so trivial, something so positively grade school level could cause one the reportedly biggest clubhouse rifts in Jays history. I mean where they going out or something? Otherwise, who giffffs a fawk?
  16. So does this mean the start of short season ball will get pushed back to July and will run through September?
  17. Do you know what the rationale is?
  18. There are only two teams that play on turf so basically he doesn't want to play for the Rays or the Jays. Not exactly a big deal. The larger issue might be the excuse-making but even that's pretty understandable. He'd want to give his new team a reason to think he'll bounce back and he more than likely sincerely believes that he will benefit from no longer playing on turf.
  19. O.K. I'm just reading the MLBTR piece now: San Francisco expects to retain Scutaro once he clears outright waivers, which seems a virtual certainty given his injury status and the $6MM left on his deal. Per Schulman, the team still hopes that the 39-year-old veteran will be able to return from his back issues (which included surgery in December).
  20. Probably retires but if he's willing to accept a MiLB deal, gitty up. He's basically a less sucky Maicer Izturis.
  21. The quotes weren't even contradictory. In the first he talks about how quickly the ball gets to you, which is a plus and in the second the talks about the effect on his body, which is a minus. One is the positive spin, the other the negative. Both are true.
  22. There was an article that came out saying that ARod has been taking PEDs for so long that his body can no longer manufacture testosterone organically. He had a medical exception for awhile but from what I understand, his exception has been revoked which leaves him kind of f***ed. It's basically impossible for him to function much less perform without PEDs so he needs to find an optimal way of masking it. Given that Bonds basically turned his body into a human lab, he might have some advice to share about that.
