  1. No. If they wanted Reyes, they would have worked out something before the first deadline. No way would they risk having Colorado just dump the contract on them like the Jays did to Chicago with Rios. That being said, I think Colorado might be dumn enough to pull back Reyes but who'd want to risk it?
  2. Saunders... Holy f***, I forgot that he even exists. I guess the outfield could get crowded when he comes back but I don't know if I want to count that chicken until it hatches.
  3. Yeah Revere is good for now but ideally Pompey steals his job and he gets demoted to 4th OF next year. No way should he be one of the guys pushing Bautista to 1B. He'd be fine as a 4th OF, pinch runner. Best guy for that role since Rajai.
  4. You could quibble about his record as GM but I don't think that's necessarily a detterent to being a good president. You mostly just want a guy whose been in baseball and has some soft skills he can employ in the boardroom. Kenny might very well be that guy. I think the real argument against him is that he's not leaving the White Sox and the Blue Jays souldn't trip all over themselves trying to pry executives from other teams. That was just embarassing last time around.
  5. I'm guessing nowhere. Why would you make a waiver claim on that tire fire of a contract?
  6. But why does the award exist? The award exists so that writers can reinforce the narratives that they create which is why when you look at the history of the award, you'll see constant goal post shifting as to what the criteria actually are.
  7. To be fair to Tulowitzky, the Jays are undefeated when he starts.
  8. He's no Marco Estrada.
  9. Sorry I didn't realize you were serious. I though that was parody. I mean sure it annoys me (I guess in as much as I ever think about it) but the idea of a screening process is so over the top that I thought you were trolling.
  10. Looking to switch to a Ty Cobb avatar?
  11. Kind of dickish of him to ask you what you were doing when you were only nine years old.
  12. Honest Trailers did a pretty good job of summing it up. It's two hours of utter tedium and a few way too dark scenes with Godzilla.
  13. Resting your banged up guys on a day game after a night game immediately before a big series is text book stuff.
  14. * Cerrano (SMH)
  15. Only good thing in the movie.
  16. Much the way the WAR leader is considered an MVP favourite today. The RBI leader used to be the statistical favourite (hence George Bell). This was going on as recently as 2006 when Morneau and his 130 RBIs edged out Derek Jeter's 97 RBIs for the MVP. Jeter outwarred Morneau 6.1 to 3.8 that year. Imagine that? The media despite all the ball-washing Jeter gets denied him an MVP because RIBEEEZ.
  17. Yeah but the award is kind of dumb. We don't need a trophy to tell us who provides the most value. We have metrics to tell us that. If they just gave the trophy to the guy with the highest WAR the trophy would become redundant so to maintain some semblance of relevance the trophy has to reward narrative not just performance.
  18. None of my English classes ever did The Outsiders. I feel like by some weird quirk of timing my year was the only one to miss out in like 40 years. I didn't even know about it until well after high school. So weird that kids half my age drop references to this book from the sixties and they go right over my head.
  19. Curious what kind of return I could get for MiLB homerun leader A.J. Reed.
  20. Man it's gotta hurt to see how much better the team is without him.
  21. FFS, I wasn't saying the whole league will go bankrupt. A negative value contract doesn't destroy you lol. It just takes away some of your flexibility. It's something to keep in mind when making decisions. Not something to go all chicken little about.
  22. Well I guess they'll know what happens when you get those four specific people to call this particular game.
  23. That's an optimist's view. You're not necessarily wrong but we can't really know what those contracts will be worth in the future. So far, the vast majority of big contracts have returned negative value in their final years. You might want to insulate yourself against that risk especially given the volatily of pitching. That being said since we're speculating about the future, there's no black and white answer. We can't know for sure how Price will age nor how the market will fluctuate.
  24. Well part of the issue is that a chunk of it is already spent on Tulo and Martin, players who might very well make more than their worth by then (which I'm fine with btw but you have to factor that in your planning).
