I'm a little surprised Gibby didn't start Smoak to be honest. I know the fact that he's Smoak is working against him but he has absolutely raked against Porcelain (SSS but still).
Pretty silly that people are rating Barnes so high when he's only pitched, what, three games in the show? I agree that he COULD be that guy, at least by looking at his numbers this year, but come on, let's get a look at the guy first.
I don't know if this has been talked about but it looks like the Jays are skipping Liriano, or at least pushing him back, as Stroman is now listed as Friday's starter. I wonder if they're just realigning the rotation to get the guys they want in the upcoming Boston series.
No reason to rest Upton with the off day tomorrow. He's been hitting the ball really well. Even yesterday he had a couple of warning track fly balls to RF. Also I hate our OF defense with both Bautista and Saunders floundering around out there.
Sanchez vs. Gallardo
Jays:
rf Bautista
3b Donaldson
1b Encarnacion
lf Saunders
c Martin
ss Tulowitzki
DH NAVARRO
cf Pillar
2b Travis
O's:
lf Kim
2b Schoop
3b Machado
1b Davis
rf Trumbo
dh Alvarez
c Weiters
ss Hardy
cf Reimold
Here we go with Navarro dhing...surprised he's not cleanup too.

Here's the article I was referring to. It's Griffin but it does contain direct quotes from Gibby.
Whether it's Upton, pillar and saunders with bautista at dh or Upton, pillar and bautista with saunders at dh, the point remains. Unless you want smoak playing, these are the two options.
A sixth outfielder could come in handy if we're using one as a pinch runner. Let's say Upton/Pillar/Saunders start with Bautista at dh, which we'll probably see a fair amount. Pompey comes in to run for Edwin or whoever. Zeke could still be useful as a defensive replacement for Saunders.
I hear what you're saying but you're not gonna put him in for Tulo and you're not gonna put him in for Donaldson. The only possibility would be Travis, but we can just use Barney for that.
Yep. In a short series we don't need eight relievers. It's completely redundant, especially with the options we have at the bottom end of the bullpen. Gibbons will likely only use four or five for the most part anyway.
Yeah this is the problem. We don't exactly have a lot of options. Honestly though, I would include Pompey. He had a few absolutely crucial steals in the playoffs last year and if Upton is starting, we don't really have that element on the bench right now. But I think someone who can come in and steal a base when you need it would be a better piece than one of our AAAA relievers.
