  1. Remember it well as there was so much excitement in the city that year. Backdrop to the whole thing, I starting watching the Jays as an expansion team in ‘77 which was made up of mostly other teams rejects. For the first 6 years, they were dreadful but ‘83 is when we actually had very good players for the first time, Steib, Fernandez, Bell, Whitt, Upshaw, Moseby, Barfield, Clancy and they became very competitive winning 89 games. ‘84 was a washout with the Tigers incredible 35-5 start, although the Jays again won 89 that year as well. So 1985 was to be the Jay’syear. The team won 99 games and the Jays were all over the news and the talk at every workplace. I watched every game but when I couldn’t, I would record games on VHS and watch later. A vivid memory is George Bell catching that fly ball in left field and going to his knees in celebration to end the final game of the regular season which signaled the team’s first AL East pennant. In the ALCS against the Royals, the Jays went up 3 games to 1 and looked like they would be going to the first World Series that would be played in Canada. That was the pinnacle of the season. It was disappointing to see the Jays lose the series 4 ganes to 3. Still remember watching the wind carry Jim Sundberg’s fly ball to the top of the right field fence to clear the bases in game 7, but the atmosphere was still very upbeat as folks were so happy that they made the playoffs. The Jays were so good that they were expected to be back in the playoffs the next year. Took a little longer with the heart breaking last weekend collapse in ‘87 to the Tigers, but that made the two WS victories 6 & 7 years later that much sweeter.
  2. Thanks. I went in to the My Blue Jays account, the Ticketmaster tickets are there but they are not available to be managed. So it makes sense that once we get close to the season starting, they should become available. Will wait till then and hope to be able to sell them on shorter notice.
  3. I see, however the Transfer ticket option is greyed out so that can't be done at the moment. Just trying to understand if it will l be available at some point? The sell option is not greyed out but links to a popup stating that "Resale for this event is not activated by the Event Organizer -Please check back again as this may change."
  4. Are Jays tickets bought on Ticketmaster resalable? I bought a number of games during the presale but they show as not being available for resale on Ticketmaster. Does this change on a certain date? A subscriber with very good seats, much better than my seats, has offered me seats to games this year and I would like to get rid of mine at cost to be able to buy the better subscriber seats.
  5. ‘87 was worse. That team was considered to be World Series ready with some reloading done after the ‘85 ALCS loss. The ‘22 Jays are/were not WS ready with holes needed to be filled in both the bullpen, starting pitching and left handed hitters.
  6. Seen the Jays at Fenway, Yankee Stadium, Cleveland and Chicago. No problems whatsoever anywhere and in fact the locals were quite friendly. No surprise as baseball fans are probably the most chill of all the major sports in North America. Seen the Leafs on the road and the locals fans are not so nice verbally abusing visiting fans. The worst is the NFL where visiting fans get harsh verbal abuse and sometimes physical abuse.
  7. Well that is not good news at all.
  8. The obvious ones(Carter/Alomar HRs), but one of my favorites was the Red Sox game in '85 where George Bell karate kicked Bruce Kison after being plunked by a pitch and I'll never forget the sight of Ernie Whitt rounding the bases, yelling at Kison after hitting a grand slam..priceless.
  9. Fast game Even completed before the Raptors game which is still going on.
  10. The Rays. They do a better job of beating the hated Yankees and Bosox than we do. Even though the Rays are in our own division, it's hard to hate them.
  11. "T-Mac to the Rack!"...does that call work for a called third strike on a pitch that grazes the outside corner of the plate?
  12. Same here..visited both AT&T Park and Angels Stadium during a California trip about 5 years ago, so I also have a soft spot for both teams. I joke with my young son that we were responsible for bringing the luck to the Giants that started them off on their subsequent World Series wins.
  13. There's zero chance of MLB ever going back to Montreal.
  14. RIP Epy. Many of us that were fans of the team since day one, appreciate his influence/shaping of this franchise from the very beginning starting with Alfredo Griffin, the teams first real home grown talent. In the eighties it was more great Dominican players like Tony Fernandez, George Bell, Damo Garcia, Junior Feliz..... To this day the Dominican flavour is still a major part of this team.
  15. Every bounce going our way tonight with Lind's single bouncing off the pitcher.
  16. Dickey certainly loves pitching against National League teams. Why can't he roll up the K"s against AL teams?
