Last year the options were Gomes and Hairiston . Both RHB that would have been great in a platoon with Lind .. This Offseason there will be others but he has to play the outfield or 3rd base . Lind did his job this year and AA will pick up the option . People need to take a look at 1st base /DH and where Lind is OPS wise . Just in and out of the top ten . Ahead of Agon , Fielder etc. People have to be really stupid to think he isn't worth 5 mil . Pretty damn cheap bat considering what is out there . AA needs to fix a lot of problems and Lind,s bat is far far down the list .

If Melky can't play the outfield then he is a bench bat or DFA guy

Since AA insists on keeping 18 relievers on the 40 man roster there is only so much room for guys with Sierra,s talent ( Or lack of ) Can his bat improve enough to be an MLB DH or can his defense improve enough to be an every day outfielder . His 7 seasons in the minors just haven't showed that and he is turning 25 in a few days -
Gose sure has wheels . If he could only get his OBP up and k,s down

Still , Rogers pitching , Sierra in right ,JPA behind the plate , Should pretty much say loss .

I want the jays to get the best draft pick they can but at the same time I hate losing to the O,s and Yankees as that hurts the Rays chances .

Happless will get his starts and lucky for us Gibby has no other options in the outfield . That should be good for 4 losses right there . Add to that someone decent is bound to get injured so 9th isn't that far a stretch .

As long as Gibby keeps putting Sierra in the OF that should be good for a couple of extra losses

Actually our 4th outfielder is likely to be Melky . Unless he gets back on the roids he is a 4th OF again . People post about him being the DH and I wonder what coolade they are drinking . Take a long look at the 1st baseman Lind had a better OPS than . Guys like Fielder, Agon , Pujols etc. For 5 million Lind isn't the problem . At 8 mil Melky is our biggest risk. -
Pretty much covers it .I would add that his lack of fundimental baseball skills makes it even more unlikely he even becomes an mlb bench player

Sierra is not an outfielder . he is a AAAA player with not enough bat to DH. -

Does Gose no good sitting on the bench . Now in a semi platoon it would be OK but his hit tool requires at least another year in AAA . IF we have the money I much prefer a vet with Gose at AAA . Melky scares the hell out of me after watching him this year . We need him to have a healthy solid year both in the outfield and at the plate . Never liked that signing and while Im not right often i was right this time, Anyone who thinks Melky,s bat plays at DH is frigging nuts . Platoon with Lind maybe -
In all seriousness I think the guy must have a very low IQ and I'm starting to feel sorry for him . I mean nobdy can be that bad unless he has some sort of learning disability .

Thanks John I badly needed a chuckle tonite . I have been dealing with lawyers all day and trying to dig up the paperwork for them so I can try and get some money back from a bad investment and f*** thats ugly . Need about an hour long shower after dealing with bastards

Man I hope you optimists are right but let us be realistic , Even if his defense is well above average the guy is 25 years old and has a career minor league OPS of 706 . How much better do we think he can get if he is only a couple of years away from hitting his prime Sure there is the odd Bautista and Ibanez around but man those type of late career spikes are so few the odds are astronomical . Can he be a +1 war player I'm highly doubt but I'll cheer him on . On the other hand what does Jack Z think of Sierra ?? How about R Romero + 8 mil + Sierra for Ackley ? Anyone think this is acceptable ?

I think it depends on how much AA has to spend and what happens with JJ . A good defensive catcher and tightened defense makes our rotation that much better . That defense was so bad I think the starters began to think they had to K everyone , got trying to make perfect pitches . Tighten up the defense in left ( melky was horrible ) 2nd base ( Bonifacio/Isturis were below replacement level IMO ) and behind the plate ( I don't even need a comment ) and how many more wins do we get . Add that to the gain in offense at all 3 of those positions and some health and we can survive with a replacement to 1 war defensive 2nd baseman. Depth in the rotation if we keep JJ ( Not sure why ) and get Tannaka would be strong but really it all comes down to Morrow and RR . One of them needs to be solid and healthy .
