Pentecost will have to be added to the 40 man this off season if they want to avoid trying to sneak him through the rule 5 draft again like they did last off season. I wonder if they bother? 5 Catchers on the 40 man would be kinda ridiculous.
I dunno about a whole thread for each position. I mean you pretty much summed up catcher right there. Not much else to say.
I figure Martin's not going anywhere at least til the deadline, and that's if he has a good year. So the only interesting question with catcher is whether or not they carry Maile. Like you said, Jansen will be the primary catcher. Martin could split time at C, but they might like the idea of having him as more of a super utility guy, based on their usage of him this year.
I think to start 2020 we see Jansen start and Mcguire back him up, so they will probably transition to that setup at some point next year, probably after the trade deadline.
As someone who objectively wants to see Ohtani provide as much value as possible in his career you are probably right.
However, as a baseball fan I just can't get behind the idea of not letting him pitch. He's such a great pitcher, it's just so fun to watch him. His start on April 8 was probably my favorite game of the year.
from that Kieth Law article:
Any idea who the 13 middle infielders are?
Groshans, Noda, Taylor, Warmoth, Smith, Bichette, Biggio? Is he including Gurriel, Diaz, Travis?
Looks like they aren't doing the Montreal games in ST next year.. kinda sad but understandable I guess, they only had like 20k people this year

If we bring back Donaldson and the young starters pitch well we could have a good team next year.
I think we have a chance to compete - the most important thing about bringing Donaldson back is that we might be adding an 8 win player.
Vladdy is going to get called up next year no matter what, why waste that year?
Teo is like pre-Cito Bautista
ridiculously prodigious power, but he's on record saying he's trying to go the other way most of the time.
I am pretty sure he needs to talk with Joey Bats for 5 minutes about the merit of a dead pull approach when you have power like that
Martin could actually provide some decent value next year in a utility role. The batting average has got to come up at least a little bit too. Hes a useful player, just maybe not a starting catcher for a contender anymore.
And as for the salary, ya it's high now. But we also paid him like 8 million dollars in the first year to be one of the best catchers in the game. The deal is heavily back loaded, it's not like hes getting paid 20million dollars to be a superstar right now
In 2015 baseball America ranked the Jays farm system 10th. This year they ranked them 9th. Whatever potential you saw before is certainly comparable to what we have now.
Here is an excellent write up about some of the most exciting prospects in the system:

I feel like there's certainly a chance that the kids all just hit the ground running and we compete next year. If not, 2020 should be a very good roster.
Might as well keep him around as a 20m catching coach for Jansen.
While were at it move Tulo to infield coach and JD to hitting coach. 60M dollar coaching staff. Might actually get some value out of these guys that way
