    I don't think this is a strange contract at all. When you are team with a payroll in the range of Atlanta you have to take greater risks by locking players up earlier than you would ideally like. Getting Freeman for 16.875M yearly will be a steal during the FA years if he keeps producing in the 3.5-4.5 WAR range. They have no chance of locking him up if they wait until he has less control. You have to take these kinds of risks when you play with that payroll range. And you can't afford to miss on too many of them.

    I really wonder what the M's are looking to get for Ackely. The bat doesn't seem to play in LF and the defense has been good at 2B in the past. He really seems like the perfect target for our 2B.

    I agree. Team would be improved, but there is better ways to do it for our long term health.

    What are peoples thoughts on the old 'break a guy into the majors in the BP' thing? It doesn't work that well for us with a over-stocked BP, but would it be better to let Stroman start in AAA, or get some experience against MLB batters in the BP? We're going to have injuries in the rotation (every one does), Stroman could bounce back and forth if necessary. And if he takes the job and runs with it when he is starting, all the better.

    I think you need to get Ubaldo because of the potential value. If you do then signing Drew is a no-brainer. And Cap on a one year deal is ideal. Some upside, and you don't owe him anything if he doesn't pitch well. You can move on to Stroman if you don't like what you see out of Cap and you don't have to worry about him bitching next year. Dickey Ubaldo Morrow MB Cap that's at least an OK rotation with at least a few capable backups for the inevitable injuries. Other than MB that rotation is pretty damn cheap too.

    with the bat. 141 wRC+. Like I said, he's a plug on the field.

    Yup, no harm in it. He had a great 2010 and has regressed from there. Its sort of 'un-Rays' because he is such a plug defensively.

    TAKE THAT BTS!!! I actually can't remember if you were one of those who were panning Betemit earlier in the OS. Doesn't seem like a really 'Rays' move, but as a minor league deal this is a whole lot of who cares.

    That segment was PAINFUL to listen to. And that fan who called in saying he doesn't want AJ here because he tipped his f***ing cap during that bad game years ago (then proceeded to say the best SP options went Santana, Ubaldo, AJ, pretty much the exact opposite). They are so out of touch with the market its crazy. Blair makes a comment about how Ubaldo will get 60/4 (high) and AJ will get LESS THAN 20/2. PAINFUL!

    I assume it will be based on if they are in the yahoo database to start with. If they aren't and they should be we can decide on a player-by-player basis, same if they are but shouldn't be (will likely start below AA). If there is any decent we could probably put those players to a vote.
