almost like playing young guys in a man's league, like McDavid and Nugent-Hopkins, exposes them to injury risks.

I've never understood that strategy ever. The best way to stop a comeback, is to keep scoring.
  3. not to mention the potential knuckle ball effect
  4. I deleted mine when I checked back
  5. We've 'hit' on those guys at a much higher rate than could reasonably be expected (and by 'hit', I mean they aren't out of baseball in a few seasons and some have marginal upside a year or two later)
  6. This league would honestly probably be better with a few less teams. If we have any drop-outs we should consider crunching it to something like 16 teams and do a dispersal draft or something. Would go a long way to fixing the value of goalies too.
  7. hmmm, honestly never even heard of him.
  8. has this actually been a problem? I hope this league doesn't go the way of the basketball league. I actually care about this league!!
  9. Wouldn't go that high. Economics are different for a player that was that old when he broke out. He'll be entering his age 33 season when he reaches FA.
  10. If they tear down the roster, imma be pissed. We need to take another kick at the can this year and not focus beyond that for now.
  11. I'll wait to hear details before I speculate, but this is at the very least shocking and somewhat disappointing.
  12. Forgot about Tulo, good for another 25ish
  13. Heyward is a LH bat
  14. I wasn't thinking that you would trade a bat in this situation. More that you sign a bat this year with the assumption that you lose one of EE or JB to FA the following year (or god forbid, be out of it at the deadline and trade one).
  15. regardless of when you expect him to have to move to 1st (or if). I think my point about only bringing back one of Edwin/Jose stands, so its still worth considering bringing another (younger) bat in to take on of their spots in the lineup.
  16. The more I think about it, the more I think getting one of the premium position players would be a good idea for our long and short term team. I don't think we can/want to keep both Edwin and Joey beyond this year, especially because both of them should be a 1B/DH going forward. If you pick up Heyward or Chris Davis next year, it makes our 2017 lineup look better after we loose at least one of our cornerstone bats (Joey/Edwin), with the added bonus of making our lineup look great for 2016 (with Cola on the bench). If you don't pick up a bat this year the lineup looks less dangerous in 2017 when you lose at least 1 of Joey/Edwin. You could pick up another bat in 2017, but the FA pool doesn't look that sexy.
  17. I like having Grant around. He's a good contrarian, even if he rubs some the wrong way.
  18. It isn't much of a risk on a one year deal, very similar to the RA option that is a no-brainer to pick up. I also think the risk is mitigated by what I perceive is a small chance he does accept. The precedent just isn't there for a guy to take the offer after a 'great' year.
  19. We'll see how it plays out, but I don't think its unreasonable at all. Name the case of the guy taking the offer instead of getting a multi-year deal in FA (especially when its likely a 30M deal from some dumb club). Not a given we'll get to see a real test of which of us is correct, but it would be interesting.
  20. Do you really think he accepts a 1 year deal after the best season he'll likely ever have? I don't think there is any scenario he takes the deal. This is his one shot.
  21. I can't understand the argument to bring back Estrada. Magic season driven by a .216 BABIP. Plus you forfeit a comp draft pick. All for the privilege of paying a guy for his age 33-36 year seasons who's K rates have declined the past 3 years. He was AWESOME for us, but it would be a huge mistake.
  22. The way I see it the Jays are in a pretty precarious position with Jose and Edwin being FA's following next year. If I'm in charge, I spend large on a FA pitcher to anchor the staff. Stroman looks much better as a #2. Put Osuna as the 5th guy in the rotation. The lineup is fine the way it is with Cola at 1st, and Travis at 2nd (with a built-in backup in Goins). Carry Dalton as a 4th OF but cycle Jose, Edwin, and Cola at 1B/DH when rest is needed. This paves the way to Jose at 1B if you want to resign him for a few years. Shore up the BP with a top end addition and a mid-range addition, so you can use Sanchez there to start the year, but have him available if you need another starter. Then you let it roll. Things go right, you have a nice shot at the playoffs. Things go wrong (or injuries hit), trade Jose and Edwin and you are already WAY down the line on a re-build with Donaldson and Tulo to anchor your middle of the order. The one thing we can't afford to be next year is 'fringy' come the trade deadline. That's why you have to go all in with a top of the rotation starter rather than a few good value wild cards. If we are 'sort of in it' at the deadline, keep Jose and Edwin, and don't make the playoffs, its a disaster.
  23. that was a really bad beat... I haven't gone on the main forum, probably won't tonight... that sucked...
