  2. Conner Greene had struggled in two outings since pitching a four-hit shutout on July 26. He got back to his winning ways with a masterful outing Friday. The Blue Jays' 10th-ranked prospect pitched six hitless innings, striking out six and walking two, as Double-A New Hampshire held on for a 5-4 victory at Trenton. "[The key was] just controlling my fastball," Greene said. "Having command on the outer half of the zone was the key for me." Greene issued a four-pitch walk to Miguel Andujar with two outs in the first inning, but he bounced back to get Mike Ford to fly out to left. He retired the next nine batters before walking Ford on five pitches in the fourth. "You can't be too fine; I was trying to be perfect," the 21-year-old right-hander said. "You're not going to be ever in this game; those walks were me trying to be perfect. Just the process of throwing strikes instead of being something you're not ... attacking, getting back to the attack mentality and not falling behind." Greene was working with a 1-0 lead after Dwight Smith's RBI single in the top of the fourth, and New Hampshire added four runs in a long top of the seventh that saw nine batters come to the plate and essentially ended the California native's night after 90 pitches. "I was gonna get [a chance to pitch the seventh], but because it was a long half-inning, I respect the coaches' decision," he said. "I think it was a good one, I was getting a little stiff there. Whatever helps the team win, and [reliever] Brady [Dragmire] did a good job there." Dragmire worked two innings before losing the no-hitter when Dustin Fowler singled to lead off the ninth. Andujar reached on a throwing error by third baseman Jason Leblebijian, and Abiatal Avelino walked two batters later to load the bases with one out. Yankees No. 16 prospect Billy McKinney blasted a grand slam to right-center that cut the Fisher Cats' lead to 5-4. "[i had] a little adrenaline, but I knew Brady could handle it, so I wasn't too worried about it," Greene said. "He ended up getting taken out, but I had a lot of confidence in him and [closer] Chris Smith. I was just hoping we could get this win together. [i had] no doubts that we were going to keep it going and get the third out in the last inning." Smith allowed a single to Mark Payton but got Dante Bichette to fly out to right before striking out Sebastian Valle to preserve the win for Greene (4-4), who was coming off consecutive losses at Richmond on July 31 and against Erie on Aug. 6. Greene allowed four runs -- all in the sixth inning -- on three hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings against the Flying Squirrels before the SeaWolves got to him for six runs on nine hits and two walks in 5 1/3 frames. Despite those struggles, he said he didn't feel the need to overhaul his approach. "Nothing changed," the 2013 seventh-round pick said. "In Richmond, I kind of got touched up in the sixth inning but had a good one through five and similar stuff in the following one. ... I have confidence in my game -- just attacking and commanding fastballs." Greene started the season in Class A Advanced Dunedin, where he went 4-4 with a 2.90 ERA over 77 2/3 innings. He had been up and down in seven starts after being promoted to New Hampshire, allowing four or more earned runs in four outings and two or fewer in the other three. "Ryan Lavarnway handles me very well; him being a [former] big league catcher, he has a lot to teach me," Greene said. "I listen up and take what I can from him and his experiences. Being consistent and focused is huge and keeping the ball down. These guys can rake, [you] can't leave it up." Leadoff man Christian Lopes went 3-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to 11 games and Blue Jays top prospect Richard Urena stretched his streak to 15 with a double and a single. Thunder starter Daniel Camarena (8-4) allowed one run on six hits and a walk while striking out five over six innings.

In the continuation of Buffalo's nine-game homestand, the Herd was held to just two hits in the opener of a three-game series against the PawSox. 11,406 fans packed Coca-Cola Field in the second-to-last fridaynightbash! of the season. The crowd saw Pawtucket's Justin Haley keep the Bisons' bats at bay, holding all but Jesus Montero, who went 2-4, out of the hit column, in 8.0 innings of work. "The only guy that really had consistent at bats off him was Montero, who had both of our hits," Allenson said of his lineup's performance against Haley. "You got to hand it to [Haley]. He had some pretty good numbers coming in there and we just did nothing off him." Haley beat Buffalo his last start in Pawtucket on Aug. 7, limiting the Herd to no runs and five hits in 7.0 innings. He has not allowed an earned run in his last three starts. The PawSox struck for three runs off Buffalo starter Mike Bolsinger in the top of the third. Rusney Castillo roped a two-run triple, lining a shot over the head of centerfielder Dalton Pompey. A batter later, Ryan LaMarre made it 3-0, scoring Castillo with a single into centerfield. The Bisons' first baserunners came in the bottom of the second, as they put runners on second and third. With one out, A.J. Jimenez grounded out to the mound, and Andy Burns was robbed on a dive by shortstop Deven Marrero. In the fourth, the Herd squandered an opportunity with runners on the corners, with Domonic Brown grounding into the Bisons' 133rd double play of the season, a high among IL teams. Pawtucket scored a fourth run in the top of the seventh. Jantzen Witte leadoff with an infield single, advanced to second on a throwing error by Andy Burns, and moved to third on a passed ball that hit home plate umpire Eric Gillam square in the facemask. Deven Marrero plated Witte with a run-scoring single. Outfielder Ezequiel Carrera, rehabbing an Achilles injury, joined the Bisons on Friday. He struck out swinging in his first two at bats, grounded out in the sixth, then struck out swinging again in the ninth. Carrera has batted .258 in 75 games with the Blue Jays this year, and spent part of last season with Buffalo, hitting .276 in 30 games. He had not seen action in a game since July 31. "He's obviously, I think, a little bit rusty," Allenson said of Carrera. "He chased some high fastballs, and hadn't seen a breaking-ball in a couple of weeks. So much of hitting is getting used to game-speed pitches and seeing the breaking balls. I'm sure he'll do better the next day, and the next day after that." The Herd's lone two his came off the bat of Jesus Montero. The Bisons' designated hitter went 2-4, with one of his outs coming in the form of a deep fly ball to right field in the bottom of the seventh. Chris Colabello and Matt Dominguez also reached base via base on balls, while Andy Burns reached on an error in the eighth. Mike Bolsinger finished with a line of 4.0 innings, four hits and three earned runs allowed. 39 of his 61 pitches were thrown for strikes. "He's got to get the ball down," Allenson said of Bolsinger. "He threw the ball up a little too much." Jason Berken provided the Herd with 4.0 innings of scoreless ball in relief of Bolsinger. Berken appeared in just his second game with Buffalo, his first coming on July 7, when he allowed four earned runs in 3.1 innings. Bo Schultz then worked a perfect inning in the top of the eighth. "He did a real good job," Allenson said of Berkens' relief outing. "He did a great job keeping us in the game, which is all you can ask of a guy that's coming in in that long relief role. He did a super job, but we just didn't do anything with the bats." On Saturday, Casey Lawrence will be opposed by Sean O'Sullivan in game two of the Bisons' three-game series against the Red Sox. First pitch from Coca-Cola Field is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. BISONS NOTES: A.J. Jimenez threw out his fourth would-be base stealer in the last two games on Friday. He has nabbed 22 runners this season… Andy Burns ended his hitting streak at eight games, going 0-3… Pawtucket takes the advantage in the all-time matchup against the two clubs, as their records sit at 162-161 in favor of the PawSox. http://i.imgur.com/E29Ju8N.png http://i.imgur.com/waEQX0i.png http://i.imgur.com/FZhVEQS.png http://i.imgur.com/SKGicgK.png http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/8/8/190698588/cuts/GreeneYelling_ubkzncen_vmi7qpt4.jpg (Trenton) 21-year old Conner Greene tossed six no-hit innings and earned the win as the Fisher Cats opened a weekend series in Trenton with a 5-4 win on Friday night at ARM & HAMMER Park. Greene walked two and struck out six, leaving after six innings having thrown 90 pitches. Brady Dragmire allowed a lead-off single in the bottom of the ninth to Trenton's Dustin Fowler for the first Thunder hit. After loading the bases, Trenton's Billy McKinney hit a grand slam and Chris Smith came on to get the final two outs for his 11th save. The Fisher Cats (55-62) scored the game's first run in the top of the fourth inning. Rowdy Tellez doubled into the left field corner and scored on a single by Dwight Smith Jr. New Hampshire sent nine men to the plate in the top of the seventh to build the lead to 5-0. In the frame, Jason Leblebijian had a sacrifice fly, Roemon Fields tripled in a run, Christian Lopes had an RBI single and Richard Urena doubled in a run. Lopes finished 3-for-5 and extended his hit streak to 11-games. Richard Urena and Dwight Smith Jr. had two hits each. Trenton (75-44) starter Daniel Camarena (8-4) took the loss. He allowed one run on seven hits in his six innings of work. He walked one and struck out five. The series continues on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. RHP Jeremy Gabryszwski (7-8, 4.44) starts for the Fisher Cats against Trenton RHP Ronald Herrera (8-7, 3.89). The Fisher Cats return to Northeast Delta Dental on Monday, August 15 to start a homestand with the Binghamton Mets. Dunedin's scheduled starter, RHP Justin Shafer (W, 4-5), pitched 7.2 relief innings because of a 30-minute rain delay that put RHP Francisco Rios in a one inning starting role. Shafer allowed two insignificant runs on six hits while striking out six. He nearly closed out the game, but fell a batter short due to pitch count. RHP Dusty Isaacs (S, 3) struck out SS Wendell Rijo with the tying run on deck to earn the one-out save. The Jays struck first in the first with LF Jonathan Davis' sac fly, plating CF Anthony Alford. Along with McBroom's bomb in the third, Alford blooped a 3-2, 2-out pitch to right in the fourth with two runners on. RF Josh Almonte was chugging hard from first and came around to score, giving Dunein a 5-0 lead. The first run of the game for Brevard County was CF Corey Ray's second home run of the series, the third of his professional career. The Jays go for the sweep Saturday night with RHP Luis Santos who opposes RHP Phil Bickford. First pitch is at 6:30 PM. http://i.imgur.com/FhbTArw.png http://i.imgur.com/cmKhMGe.png http://i.imgur.com/Tw8IpBD.png http://i.imgur.com/WjPQ5DR.png http://i.imgur.com/UAgqb5W.png http://i.imgur.com/ncTqLMQ.png http://i.imgur.com/LFwAc31.png http://i.imgur.com/5vppK4P.png http://i.imgur.com/BieglKK.png http://i.imgur.com/onjLipR.png http://i.imgur.com/q8YzOhU.png http://i.imgur.com/3TRTj3m.png http://i.imgur.com/nunVYGn.png http://i.imgur.com/Wn8dZv0.png Kings 3 Stars of the Night 1) Vladimir Guerrero Jr: Vlad Jr. went 3/4 with 2 home runs, a walk, and a stolen base. 2) Bradley Jones: Jones went 3/3 with 2 home runs (1 a grand slam), a walk and 7 runs batted in. 3) Conner Greene: Greene had one of the best starts with New Hampshire as he pitched 6 no hit innings, with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts, and 8 groundball outs. It is the Herd's first loss to Indy this season, with Buffalo ending the season-series with a 5-1 record against the Indians. Buffalo attempted a comeback in the bottom of the ninth, as Andy Burns brought home Domonic Brown with a run-scoring single against closer Jorge Rondon, putting the Bisons within one run. The Herd came up just short, as Rondon fanned Melky Mesa to end the ballgame. With the Bisons' up 1-0 in the fourth, Jose Osuna connected for a three-run home run off Bisons' starter Chris Leroux, giving the Indians a 3-1 lead. It was the first earned runs allowed by a Bisons' starter since the first inning of Tuesday's game against Indianapolis. Buffalo scored their lone run in the bottom of the third, when Mesa doubled and scored on a RBI single by Dalton Pompey. Mesa rejoined the Herd on Thursday, in place of Junior Lake, who was called up to Toronto to replace the injured Jose Bautista. He hit .300 in 17 games with Buffalo earlier this year. "I don't have any complaints," Bisons' manager Gary Allenson said of his lineup. "I've complained enough about not hitting with guys in scoring position. Their lefty pitched good against us in a spot-start. We got some hits, but we couldn't cash in." The Indians attempted three stolen bases in the first two innings, with Bisons' catcher A.J. Jimenez throwing out two of the would-be baserunners. He threw out a third runner in the sixth, bringing his total to 21 on the year. "Honestly, that got me by surprise," Jimenez said of the eager Indianapolis baserunners. "I saw those guys in the first inning being aggressive on the bases, and actually, I liked it, because that gave me more confidence behind the plate and made the game for me more exciting." "He's quick, he's got really good hands, excellent ball transfer," Allenson said of his catcher. "Just like a second baseman turning a pivot, you catch it, but you also transfer it and get it out of your hand as quick as you can with some arm strength. A.J.'s just been doing that." In the bottom of the second with Matt Dominguez on first, Domonic Brown ripped a double into right-centerfield. As Brown chugged to second with a double, Dominguez was thrown out at the plate in an attempt to score. "I wish I wouldn't have sent Dominguez earlier in the game on a ball that went to the wall, but that's a part of the game," Allenson said. Lefty Kelvin Marte, starting just his second game of the year for Indianapolis, stranded a pair of runners on base in the fourth, forcing Andy Burns to ground out to escape the jam. In the fifth, a double by Ryan Goins was stranded, as a chopper to short by Jimenez was speared by Pedro Florimon, who spun and threw to first for the out. Leroux ended his outing with a beautifully turned a 6-4-3 double play initiated by Goins. He left after 6.0 innings, seven hits and three earned runs, fanning five. He remains winless in six starts since July 7. "We've done a good job," Allenson said of his pitching staff of late. Bisons starters allowed just three earned runs in 20.0 innings against Indianapolis this series, walking just three. "Obviously, the three-run home run hurt us today, but we were in the game, and after the three-run homer we didn't let anything else up. Obviously a good start." Dominic Brown, Matt Dominguez and Ryan Goins all went 2-4, with eight of the Bisons' nine batters having at least one hit. Marte pitched 5.0 innings, a season high, striking out two and allowing just one earned run. A.J. Schugel and Curtis Partch pitched three combined scoreless innings in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. Buffalo reliever Matt Dermody ran into trouble in the top of the eighth, but back-to-back strikeouts with two runners on kept it a 3-1 game. Chad Girodo pitched a perfect top of the ninth for Buffalo. The Bisons drop back below .500, at 59-60, and remain in fourth place in the IL North. On Thursday, the Herd begins a three-game series with Pawtucket to finish off a six-game homestand at Coca-Cola Field. Taking the mound for the second time as a Bison will be righty Mike Bolsinger, who lost to the PawSox on Aug. 7. He will be opposed by Justin Haley, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. BISONS NOTES: It was announced on Thursday that Blue Jays' outfielder Ezequiel Carrera will join the Bisons on Friday for a rehab assignment. Carrera played in 30 games with the Herd in 2015… Andy Burns extended his hitting streak to eight games with his ninth inning single… Dalton Pompey stole his team-leading 16th base on Thursday, and has 12 straight stolen bases since June 3. http://i.imgur.com/Zw7enY7.png http://i.imgur.com/19DE8IE.png http://i.imgur.com/W1c7q2X.png http://i.imgur.com/bkbKuTa.png http://www.milb.com/assets/images/6/8/4/187065684/cuts/SmithHRRickZ640_6v16d7d1_ol14dr1i.jpg (Bowie, MD) - Christian Lopes and Emilio Guerrero hit Fisher Cats homers, but Bowie rallied late for a 6-5 win over New Hampshire on Thursday. Trailing 5-3 in the eighth, Conor Bierfeldt belted a two-run homer to tie the game. Bowie won the game on a walk-off double by Garabez Rosa in the ninth off reliever Colton Turner (0-1) to prevent a New Hampshire series sweep. The Fisher Cats hit the two home runs, and also stole six bases in the game, matching a franchise record. Dwight Smith Jr. had two hits and two walks and stole four bases, also matching the most ever in a game by a New Hampshire player. Bowie's leadoff hitter in the game, Julio Borbon tripled and Drew Dosch singled him in to give the Baysox a 1-0 lead after one inning on Thursday morning. They added a run in the second when Quincy Latimore singled to short, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Borbon single. The Fisher Cats scored in the top of the third inning. Ian Parmley doubled and Richard Urena knocked him in with a single to right field. New Hampshire (54-62) would take its first lead in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run homer by Guerrero. Reese McGuire had singled ahead of Guerrero's third of the season off Baysox starter Matthew Grimes to put the Fisher Cats up 3-2. Bowie (50-67) would even the score in the bottom of the fifth inning. Drew Dosch singled and would eventually score on a sacrifice fly by Rosa off starter Taylor Cole, who left after five innings. The Fisher Cats wasted no time to move back in front in the top of the sixth inning against reliever Jesus Liranzo. Derrick Loveless walked and Christian Lopes homered to make it 5-3. Lopes extended his hit streak to a career-best ten games with a two-for-five day. The home run was his second of the season. Tanner Scott (1-1), Bowie's third pitcher, picked up the win relief. He worked two scoreless innings for the Baysox. New Hampshire heads to Trenton to open a three-game series on Friday night against the Thunder at ARM & HAMMER Park. RHP Conner Greene is scheduled to start the opener. The Fisher Cats return to Northeast Delta Dental on Monday, August 15 to start a homestand with the Binghamton Mets. 13. And your reasoning was his tweets were soft. Still equally hilarious it hasn't changed but you keep bringing it up. I'll laugh each time.
  14. I would take the "Dalton has a chance to be a star" statement with a grain of salt. It's probably a combination of pumping his ego/self confidence, since he appears to be mentally unstable, and saving his trade value. Does anyone realistically think Pompey has a chance to be a star at this point? If he becomes an average regular you take that and run.
  15. Here is an article on the night Urena had - http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20160810&content_id=194838858&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_l113 http://www.milb.com/assets/images/0/7/6/194840076/cuts/rurena_a7awm704_ngqmbg3u.jpg Richard Urena has provided a little jolt to Double-A New Hampshire since his arrival last week. On Wednesday night, he made a little history. "When he hits the ball, we just sit there and watch him run," Fisher Cats hitting coach Stubby Clapp said. "He is playing hard right now and has really added some life to our ballclub." The top-ranked Blue Jays prospect recorded a team-record three triples as the Fisher Cats beat Bowie, 7-4, at Prince George's Stadium. He drove in a run and scored three times in his seventh game since a promotion from Class A Advanced Dunedin. "[urena] has got a hitter's confidence," New Hampshire manager Bobby Meacham said. "When he goes to the plate, he's not like, "Oh, I'm in Double-A now, so I've got to do something different.' He's just using the same confident approach and swings at the pitches he thinks he can handle and [is] having a lot of success that way." MLB.com's No. 86 overall prospect moved up a level on Aug. 3 after slashing .305/.351/.447 with 33 extra-base hits in 97 Florida State League games. Facing Baysox starter David Hess in the first inning, he ripped a one-out triple to center field and raced home on a wild pitch. Urena grounded out to short in the third but plated Blue Jays No. 29 prospect Roemon Fields and gave the Fisher Cats a 4-1 lead in the fifth with his second three-base hit. "He's been doing the same things since the day he got here," Clapp said. "He's on the fastball. He's on time and ready to hit. He's not sitting there trying to play around and see a whole lot of pitches." In the seventh, the 20-year-old shortstop -- who served as New Hampshire's designated hitter on Wednesday -- jumped on Hess' first pitch and sprinted his way into the Fisher Cats record book. "When he hit the third one, it was a no-doubter," Clapp said. "The first two were over the fielders' heads, but the third one was in the gap. And at that point, it was just a matter of stopping at third or rounding the bag." The switch-hitter from the Dominican Republic struck out in the ninth but finished his first week in the Eastern League with a .433 average (13-for-30), five triples, two doubles and seven runs scored. "It's a big jump if you're not sure how good you are," Meacham said. "The best thing about him is it looks like he's sure he's a good player. He's sure of his offense at the plate, he knows what he needs to work on. On the defensive end, he's been working on that as well. He has played hard in every game and ran the bases, so it's not a big jump for a player who is confident in his abilities. And that's what we are seeing from him so far." Shane Opitz belted a two-run homer in the third for the Fisher Cats, while Blue Jays No. 27 prospect Dwight Smith also had a pair of RBIs. Wilmer Font (2-0) struck out eight while allowing one run on two hits and two walks over six innings to pick up the win. Chris Smith fanned two in the ninth for his 10th save.
  16. It happens, but it's rare. Nice to see Urena having a good transition to AA either way.
  17. Am I the only one who thinks this is absurd? "I saw one of the most thrilling Jays games in history and no game will ever top that so I don't bother going back"
  18. Happ is on cruise control right now. Since july 3rd he's pitching ~43 innings, ~11.5 K/9, ~2.5 BB/9, ~1.25 ERA, ~2.3 xFIP Very encouraging and fun to watch
  19. I would say it's elite. Top 50 prospect in all of baseball is highly touted. Then top 10 is another level.
  20. Rizzo was a top 50 prospect by Baseball America in 2012. But it's irrelevant to the point you were trying to make. I'm just throwing that out there. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/top-100-prospects/2012/2612998.html
