Reading, PA - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats trailed early but rallied for four unanswered runs to beat the Reading Fightin' Phils 4-1 at FirstEnergy Stadium Monday night.
Reading struck first in the opening frame. Scott Kingery singled to begin the inning, advanced to second on a passed ball then took third on a dropped third strike. Up stepped Kyle Martin, who delivered a two out RBI single to give the Fightin' Phils a 1-0 lead.
That advantage didn't last long. Ryan McBroom led off the second with a solo home run - his second in as many games - to left field that tied the game 1-1.
Another lead-off homer put the Fisher Cats out in front for good. Richard Urena took Reading starter Brandon Leibrandt (L, 2-1) deep to begin the fourth to make it 2-1 New Hampshire.
'Cats starter Francisco Rios (W, 3-2) took it from there. The Mexican-born right-hander tossed seven innings, scattered eight hits and didn't allow another run after the first inning. He walked one and struck out four.
New Hampshire added two runs in the sixth to pad the lead. McBroom doubled with two outs and scored on a Harold Ramirez single, who advanced to second on the throw. Emilio Guerrero followed with an RBI single that scored Ramirez and made it 4-1.
Chris Rowley (S, 1) earned his first Double-A save with two scoreless innings to close out the game.
The series continues Tuesday night in Reading. Jon Harris gets the ball for the Fisher Cats (9-14) while Tom Eshelman will start for the Fightin' Phils (11-9). First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. and can be heard locally on AM 610 WGIR or online via iHeartRadio.

The Blue Jays started May the same way they ended April: scoring runs. For the fifth straight game, the team put five or more runs on the scoreboard on their way to a 5-4 win over the Tampa Yankees at home Monday night.
The Blue Jays continued their tendency to score early and score in bunches in the first game of their four-game series against the Yankees, putting up four runs in the third inning. 1B Max Pentecost and C Danny Jansen each singled following a 2B Cavan Biggio walk to load the bases with two outs. 3B Juan Kelly then lined a 3-1 pitch from Yankees starter Albert Abreu down the line in right for a two-run double. RF Lane Thomas followed immediately after with a double of his own to left, scoring two more.
Jansen extended the Jays lead to five in the fifth, hitting a solo home run to left. The homer was the third of the year for the Florida State League's leader in batting average.
The Yankees would not go down without a fight. In the top of the sixth, they finally were able to score against Dunedin starter RHP T.J. Zeuch , stringing together three hits off Zeuch and one off reliever RHP Connor Eller to score twice. Zeuch finished the day with 5.1 innings pitched, seven hits and two earned runs allowed, and six strikeouts to earn his second win of the season.
In the top of the ninth, Tampa was able to get two more off of LHP Danny Young to draw within one run on a two-run home run by CF Jeff Hendrix. The pair of runs were the first allowed by Young this season.
With one out in the ninth, RHP Andrew Case entered the game and induced the next batter to fly out weakly to right before recording a strikeout to end the game, lock down the win, and earn his third save of the year.
"It's one pitch at a time," Case said after the game about pitching in such a crucial spot. "You gotta make sure you execute each pitch. It's a one-on-one battle."
With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 14-11 on the year. The Yankees fall to 10-15. The two teams will play again tomorrow with LHP Ryan Borucki taking the mound for the 6:30 PM start.
Of Note
With his third inning single, Max Pentecost improved his hitting streak to fifteen games. Danny Jansen raised his league-leading batting average to .407 with two hits tonight.

Spats notes from the Dunedin game -
"T.J was better than his line shows. His fastball was in the low 90's topping out at 94 but his slider was electric...a lot of swings and misses. Even tho he was charged with 2 runs, he should have pitched a shoutout. With 2 runners on in the 6th, Kelly misplayed a line drive which could have got him out of the inning. Eller allowed the second runner to score.
Danny Jansen continues to impress...towering HR to left and a great job of handling T.J.'s slider...blocks everything.
Vicuna doesn't look out of place at SS, especially with the glove but I think he is just place-setting until Gurriel is healthy.
Pentecost caught 9 innings on Friday, didn't play yesterday and 1st tonight. Not sure why he isn't catching more but I think his bat could play at 1st...guy also has some speed..almost beat out a routine grounder to short. I'm surprised they're keeping both him and Jansen in Dunedin."
