    Good on the ump for knowing the rule I guess. I disagree with it too. I really don't think he makes the call if Calhoun doesn't take his bat off his shoulders and walks away during the middle of the pitch.

    If Calhoun hadn't put his bat down and walked away would the ump have called time, ruled it a ball?

    It's correct by the rulebook but stupid considering that this "rule" literally never gets enforced.

    The ump called it an illegal quick pitch and awarded a ball to Calhoun, which was ball 4.

    Barnes just threw at Machados head in the Red Sox/Orioles game but the ball clearly hit the bat. Ump threw barnes out of the game and awarded Machado 1B lol
