Nick Sandlin was outrighted to Buffalo on 11/14 according to MLB transactions 37/40 on the 40 man.

Straw has a role on this team because you’re starting Tony Taters everyday in LF. You’ll want someone who is an above average runner and defender to be a late game replacement. I do think you’ll need a 5th OF and if you count Schneider as one that’s your 5. If you sign Bellinger or Tucker and bump Barger to 3rd you have Clement back as a super utility which again is going to strengthen the roster.

Id imagine Cease is more in the 5/155 to 7 /210 range. I do think the team needs two starters one of which should have top half of the rotation potential and one more mid to back like a Mable , post shoulder surgery Woodruff, or someone like Ponce.

I’d love to be getting Kyle Tucker. It makes for a bit of a cramped OF next season but there isn’t much there beyond 2026. The team intends to move Barger between RF and 3B again so they could potentially work in someone like Tucker while still giving Clement, Barger, Giménez, Santander and Springer a good amount.of playing time. This also goes for Bellinger but I have more concerns with him. I do think that Bichette will end up in Toronto again. I am unsure on Murakami with the holes against velocity and all secondary pitches but I am intrigued by Okamoto and Sung-Moon Song. Ponce has some intrigue as a back end of the rotation option as does Anderson but I think Anderson may be more inclined to stay in Asia with his wife. I do think the team needs to be in on Cease or another front of the rotation arm via trade.

I wouldn’t be shocked if the Jays acquire Keller and Bednar from the Pirates. Keller raises the floor for this season and is under control for the next few seasons when we’re losing a bunch of arms. He also moves someone back to the ‘pen in Lauer as an example which does increase the depth there. Bednar raises the floor and the ceiling. I feel like we will likely see multiple moves made and I wouldn’t be shocked if we end up with two starting pitchers, two or three relievers and one or two positions players. I did see an interview yesterday with Whit Merrifield and he agrees the Jays need to make a move but he suggested that the FO should talk to some of the club house leaders and ask what they think they need to do to win and what kind of personality won’t mess with the club house chemistry. Which while something I know we can’t actually track I do believe chemistry does actually exist and have merit.

If you’re trading with the pirates I imagine it’s for Keller and Bednar. I think the place to be trading is with the DBacks. I’d be looking to trade for Suarez, allowing Clement to be the weak side of a 2B platoon and backup IF, Shelby Miller and Merrill Kelly. All rentals with a bad front office.

He's openly said multiple times that he'd like to stay in Toronto. Though earlier in his career he did say (I think when the Jays made the deal covering all his arbitration years) that he was going to test free agency but would give Toronto an opportunity to match any offer he received.

The other board I've been getting a few rumours from has banned the guy that said we had a signed deal out for Alonso so I'm going to make the tough decision that he was BSing lol. I am aware that the Jays have the budget room to sign both, especially if the rumblings of Bregman having a 6 year deal with an opt out after year 1 is true.

Report: Blue Jays Talks With Pete Alonso "Advancing"
Sorrow replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Toronto Blue Jays Talk
I’ve seen a few rumblings that the Jays and Alonso have a 3 year $80 million deal done as well as the physical being complete. Apparently the hold up is just finalizing signing bonus and deferrals. It would be similar to Santanders with opt outs and options that could extend the deal. Will be interesting to see if this actually happens as the sources have been accurate in the past but not people I’m super familiar with. -
There's actually some interesting competition for the 2nd lefty role if Brendon Little looks good in Spring Training. We signed Josh Walker to an MLB deal earlier this winter, limited opportunities in the MLB so far and hasn't looked great. Dick Lovelady Eric Lauer Easton Lucas - really good slider by Stuff+ but everything else is averagish to s*** Macko - maybe the team moves him to the 'pen as a long arm - down to 2 options never broke 100 IP

General Blue Jays Discussion Thread (2025)
Sorrow replied to Ryu In My House's topic in Toronto Blue Jays Talk
So I have heard what may end up as interesting news. My friend who used to work for the Jays before taking an opportunity elsewhere has heard that Rogers is thinking about making the Jays, Leafs and Raptors and the rest of MLSE a new company for less shareholder involvement so Ed Rogers can use the money how he wants and the man to run it all would be one Mark Shapiro. This would mean the Jays have a new president and GM in the near future though Rogers apparently likes Atkins so who knows maybe a promotion and a promotion for Click. -
Im of the belief that this is now the team knowing that Varsho is going to be out longer than originally thought and going to be running a likely really weak defensive LF with an average at best defender in RF. They have Berroa and they have Classe and the have Loperfido but they’re all unproven and we don’t really know what we have defensively while Straw has historically been a really good defender. They got money for the international pool which still has 14 of the top 50 free agents available including all the Jays top wants. im still upset that we didn’t get Sasaki and I’m not thrilled about the state of the team but I know for a fact we have offers out to Bregman and Santander and they’re open to signing multiple larger contracts. We should be getting our best player back and healthy next season as well.

Set a hard cap of like $250m with a floor of $150m so teams can’t just be cheap f***s and actually have to pay players. A cap hurts top end talent but a floor helps lower to middle tier players.

I never really disliked the Dodgers but the last two or three seasons they’ve become the new Evil Empire. It reminds me so much of the late 90s through 2000s Yankees where they just spend spend spend. I’ve thought for a while that baseball needs a hard salary cap, with a floor, deferrals should be limited to no more than 10% of the contract per season, IFA should be subject to an international draft.

Blue Jays Among 3 Teams Talking To Pete Alonso [Rosenthal]
Sorrow replied to Jays24's topic in Toronto Blue Jays Talk
Alonso and Guerrero are basically the same player defensively. Guerrero is marginally better at scoops (6 scoops more so like 1-2 runs) over their careers. Alonso is better at getting to balls more than 5 feet away from him and Guerrero is marginally better at balls within 5 feet. What I'd like to see if we did get Alonso is getting him for 1B with Vladdy moved to 3B (if he extends) and DHing if he doesn't extend. OAA and DRS said Guerrero was passable at 3B in 2024 albeit with zero range - and a non existent sample size - so if we're not playing against guys that slap that ball on the ground - especially with our lack of ground ball pitchers, you can probably trade the D for the O on the corners. -
I'm fairly certain that Atkins and Shapiro were one of, if not the first, North American team to go over and meet and start a relationship with Sasaki. We also have some of the best facilities in baseball for training and recovery and while our minor league pitching development hasn't been great our major league development has been great and for the most part those MLB arms have stayed healthy. Sasaki is 23, he's going to be a free agent at 30 so getting some of the best development at the major league level he can get has to to be attractive. It also doesn't hurt that we can offer $10M in IFA dollars to the Dodgers $8 and IIRC the Padres are around $9.5. He has a lot of opportunity for endorsements in Canada where he would be the guy as well. My gut feeling is that he ends up in San Diego but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Toronto.

They're paying him like 140k over league minimum, he knows the team, he's on the roster, the coaches know what he has to work on . His sinker and cutter at basically average pitches per stuff + but his slider is elite. He likely needs to start throwing it a lot more. It's also not a large sum of money if they sign a few players to just release him. -
Shatkins replacement - What would your choice be ??
Sorrow replied to Blue balls's topic in Toronto Blue Jays Talk
I think if the team struggles this season Atkins is gone at the end of his contract, Rogers loves Shapiro so he'll likely be extended and I wouldn't be surprised if James Click takes over as GM.
