There aren't really any significant positives.
The only ones are Stroman and the minor league system
And perhaps that we didn't s*** the bed like last year and instead it was the Sox/Rays.
Things aren't looking good.
For one, we know this team doesn't have any money to spend. Sure, payroll is going to be increasing but that's because of the cost of current contracts on hand. AA keeps saying that we have the cash but his inaction shows that isn't the case. It also doesn't help that we're hearing rumors from other teams that the Jays are telling them they can't take on money.
So how exactly are we going to improve this team if we cannot spend? Melky is good as gone, and even if we sign him, it's not going to be cheap.
Jannsen is gone, and the bullpen would have to be rebuilt.
Bautista, Buerhle & Reyes are entering their decline phases. Lawrie is starting to become like Tulowitzki in terms of injuries. Rasmus is gone (which doesn't hurt) but Gose is a minor improvement.
We also don't have any position prospects that are MLB ready, so if we want to trade for vital pieces we'd have to give up our arms.
