Exactly. I'm sure all these arguments were put forth back when batting helmets came out and the warning track was mandated. We take those safety measures as just part of the game because we grew up not knowing any different. It's just because this change is happening in the midst of our fandom that it's a big deal for some. I like the change, but really, if you're going to do a rule change as a test, why not try it in the minors first and see how it goes so you can adjust any obvious flaws before you put it in the majors?

If he hasn't learned that kind of basic stuff by now after all those years in the minors, expecting him to suddenly pick it at the major league level is pretty silly.

ROFL, Magic announcers have checked out of this game, they've spent the last 2 minutes talking about the free pizza for the Raps getting 100 points and probably the win and how the bars were open early to serve booze for the hockey game, and general conversation about sweet potato fries and coleslaw.

It's his job to talk up the players and make people believe there's hope for the bat. I'm sure the conversation inside the office is a lot different than then one that gets told to the media.

Freeman got 8/135. Trout is worth double that easy without blinking. The thing with Trout though, is really how much more is he going to improve? He's already playing at the highest level out of everyone so chances are he's already peaked. It's how long his peak lasts that will be the question. -

Yup. It's an interesting shift lately from some FO's being willing to pay market value for players in their prime, rather than say signing them to team friendly deals and wind up overpaying for older veterans who no longer provide positive value on their deals. THe qualifying offer in a few years is going to 20 million at this rate. -

This is all Atlanta's fault. Signing their core players to market value deals rather than the team friendly ones that used to happen for guys still under team control. I bet the players union is loving Wren right now. -

Interesting guesstimate. I think Trout would smash 13 million in his first arbitration contract if he really wanted to go that route. What argument would the Angels have to pay him less? He could submit a number of 20 million and if the Angels came in at 13, he'd only have to prove he was worth more than 16.5, and then point to all the players he's better than who are making more than 16.5. Would be the easiest case for an arbitrator. -

Yep. even going position by position... Rotation is about the same. Pen - Toronto Catcher - Baltimore 1b - I prefer Edwin personally because I think Davis' 30% K rate will ultimately catch up with him. CAll it a tie 2b - both suck SS - Edge Toronto 3b - edge Orioles RF - Toronto CF - Very close.. Jones better pop, doesn't walk as much but doesn't K as much either, Rasmus better D. Call it a tie LF - A healthy Cabrera would give this to Toronto DH - Lind vs Criz... tie Really, anyone who's down on the Jays should be just as down on the Orioles. There's just as many question marks for them and they have just as big a checklist of things that need to go right in order to contend. Health and who ends up with the most checks on their list of things to go right will finish better.

What's really sad is that a great GM would be a hybrid between the two. AA's ability to build a farm coupled with Ricciardi's bigger belief in sabermetric analysis and willingness to actually pay free agents to play in Toronto... one can't keep his mouth shut and the other won't say s*** if his mouth was full of it... a happy medium would be nice. -
