  1. NotGraphs is just a place where people write fake stuff for entertainment value. It's not real and it doesn't pretend to be. Even if Buerhle felt this way(and who could blame him if he does) he'd never say it publicly.
  2. Typically a player is placed on waivers after being designated for assignment for the purpose of outrighting him to one of the club's minor league teams. A player who is outrighted to the triple A is removed from the 40-man roster but is still paid according to the terms of his guaranteed contract. A player can only be outrighted once in his career without his consent. However, a player must clear waivers (that is, no other team may place a waiver claim on the player) to be sent to a minor league team. Also, if the player has five or more full years of major league service, he must give consent to be assigned to the minors. If the player withholds consent, the team must either release him or keep him on the major league roster. In either case, the player must continue to be paid under the terms of his contract. Trade the player Once a player is designated for assignment, he may be traded. Some teams have been known to designate players for assignment to increase interest in the player, especially among teams that are not at the top of the waiver list (the order of which is determined by record). For example, in May 2006, Rangers reliever Brian Shouse was designated for assignment, and was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers four days later. The Brewers could have waited until Shouse was placed on waivers so they would not have had to give up a player in a trade, but according to the waiver rules, the other 13 NL teams would have had preference in claiming him. Also, under the "ten-and-five rule," if a player has ten years of Major League service, the last five with his current team, he cannot be traded without his consent. Release the player If a player is not traded, and clears waivers, he may be released from the team. The player is then a free agent and may sign with any team, including the team that just released him. The team that releases him is responsible for the salary the player is owed, less what he is paid by the team that signs him (in practice, the amount paid by the signing team is usually a pro-rated portion of the Major League minimum salary). Outright from the 40-man roster If the player clears waivers when being designated for assignment, they can most commonly be outrighted from the 40-man roster and play for any class in the Minor Leagues.
  3. Designated for assignment is a contractual term used in Major League Baseball. A player who is designated for assignment is immediately removed from the team's 40-man roster, after which the team must either:[1] return the player to the 40-man roster within 10 days from the date of designation, or make one of the following contractual moves: 1. Place the player on waivers (which can only be done within the first 7 days of the 10-day period) 2. Trade the player 3. Release the player 4. Outright the player from the 40-man roster into the Minor Leagues
  4. There a fine line between being selective and passive at the plate. Right now they on the side of passive.
  5. Another first pitch curve in the middle of the plate... They should be killing those hangers
  6. Jays should be sitting on that curve and just adjusting to the fastball... He's only throwing 89-90 with the FB, they should be able to at least foul it off while waiting or that slow meatball hook
  7. This is true. If his KB is at it's best, he'll be fine. But if it's not, this lineup will be on base all day long. Other more free swinging lineups might still have issues with a less than ideal knuckleball, but this lineup her will just watch it float by and go to first.

  10. Wouldn't it be weird to see a team go from last in the east, to WS champs, then back to last in the next year? That's probably never happened
  11. Just need Chris Davis to be suspended for steroid use and Baltimore would start losing too. f*** that guy doesn't even swing with effort and the ball somehow goes 450 feet. At least Jose and Edwin are like max effort swinging to get theirs.
  12. Same. Hendricks really didn't pitch that well, but the W for the team is all that matters
  13. It's not even a cowboy hat, it's a wicker-like piece of s*** that an old lady would use while gardening
  14. I don't get that non-move either. Gose is the better defender and could just go in as the pinch runner if Lind or even Francisco got on base and then played a better CF in the 9th. Seems like that should have been a automatic move.
  15. 154.2 IP by the pen before tonight's game. 6th in baseball. Rays have the highest at 166.1. They're just screwed
  16. The only plate production JPA has seen in the last 2 years is at the buffet.
  17. Need starters to go more than 5.2 innings consistantly. Jays still have probably the most innings pitched by the pen in all of baseball. A good pen is one that doesn't pitch 4+ innings 3 out of 5 nights and at least 3 in the other 2.
  18. Curve has been unhittable yet he goes to the fastball in a strikeout count.... Callaspo got stupid lucky but it's still not a smart selection. Cecil needs to trust Kratz
  19. Kazmir looks like he's got a legit clue now as a pitcher and not just a thrower. Good for him
  20. Could see pillar waving off Jose, but couldn't tell if he was yelling or not.... Hopefully they'll show a replay. Jose has to know to back off if the CF calls it. Gose would have been camped under it for A good Second had he been in CF
  21. Really like Kratz sequencing... Makes his pitcher establish that fastball and really seems to be able to pick up on hitters weaknesses and try to exploit it. Hendricks getting pretty lucky tonight though on meatballs over the plate.
