His biggest problem is swinging at stuff he shouldn't be. That's always been his problem and continues to be. He suffers from great hand eye coordination coupled with poor decision making, which leads to a lot of weak contact

In fact, a good analogy would be ... a sinker(hard) and splitter(soft) have more drop and less run, whereas a 2 seam fastball(hard) and changeup(soft) have more run, less drop. Though a really good changeup still has a lot of drop

No, a splitter is basically a different kind of changeup. It has similar action to a sinker (2 seam fastball) in that they both have arm side sink and run, but the splitter will be about 10 mph slower and won't run nearly as much, but should drop more.
