  1. Yup 4 years ago stuff should really matter to the team this year.
  2. Yeah I would love to get Gray on a 1 year deal, but he hasn't been so bad that there wouldn't be teams out there likely willing to give him more than 1. Like, he's not a disaster that someone needs to fix in order to be viable in the rotation, he's got the stuff and just needs a tweak or two to get him to where everyone thinks he should be. Honestly, I'd be okay with the Jays offering a multi-year deal with a club option. Maybe 2+1 in the 20 million range, some performance bonuses and the option would be for 12 with a 2 million buyout or something.
  3. I think the assumption he was making is that Gray, under Pete Walker's tutelage would have improved numbers rather than just staying the same. It's an interesting assumption for sure as we've seen how working with Walker helped Ray and Matz. But, there's also other examples where working with him didn't help so... who knows what would actually happen.
  4. Chris Taylor - 6 Braves - 2.
  5. Low hanging fruit but.... you talking about sex with any woman is really denigrating to said woman.
  6. Nice hitting by Alvarez off Sale today. He's 3 for 3 and the rest of the lineup is 0-Fer
  7. THat's a reasonable inference IMO. Otherwise the name that came after + should have been before the +. LIke... I'll trade you a 4th round pick + Mike Trout.... vs Trout + a 4th round pick.
  8. Jews are a religion, not a race.
  9. That wasn't even THAT bad of a call... it barely missed. The optical movement of the catcher sure didn't help though.
  10. Slutty girls is not, itself, a sexist statement. If there were some implication that all girls were slutty, that would qualify for sure. I'm sure the team isn't overly worried about the team having parties with nothing but slutty men present.
  11. Just LOL. That's just unacceptable for any umpire in any professional game, let alone the playoffs.
  12. It wouldn’t be that different than oil companies paying for housing for their rig workers that get flown in to work for 6 months at a time. Those guys make tons of money but still get housing paid for a lot of the time due to a variety of factors
  13. Kinda. 18.4 million is the expected value of the 1 year contract offer that teams must make to departing free agents if they want a pick back if the player declines. It’s probably more than he is worth on a strictly AAV basis, but…Matz is at his highest value ….ever, so he may take this opportunity to take a multi year deal worth less AAV elsewhere. If he does, Jays get a pick back. If he accepts Jays get Matz for 1 year 18.4, which is totally acceptable as a 1 year deal. Having Matz back at 1 year for 18.4 is decidedly not prohibitive to them doing anything else given the state of their payroll.
  14. All he’s saying is that the goal is to make the team better, not to be stuck or beholden to resigning certain players who just had career years. He didn’t say they have no interest in bringing them back, just that resigning those two players is not the only way to make the team better.
  15. Matz is a no brainer also. It’s win win for the Jays. 18.4 million for 1 year of Matz would be a fine consolation prize if nobody wants him for a multi year deal that lands a pick. No such thing as a bad 1 year deal.
  16. I love the idea also, I just think that the Rockies would be wanting more than Kirk + Pearson. I doubt he's even on the market TBH
  17. I dunno, would make no sense to provide housing for some players but not all. Like, what really would be the difference in a player's minor league contract status? All of them are under contract to the minor league team they play for, and by extension the Jays. Maybe it's the type of contracts they are signed to that matter. Like, in the upper minors there's gonna be a lot of guys that are on the 40 man roster that are just in AAA or AA, so maybe their housing situation would be different than those that are strictly on minor league deals.
  18. Try weed. A good indica strain will shut those voices off real good. Sativa on the other hand and you're probably going to jail.
  19. My favorite part of this story about minor league housing is the following: "In mid-September, owners from the league's 30 teams agreed unanimously to a plan that would provide housing for certain minor league players, the league said in a statement. Whether they will offer stipends that fully cover housing or provide the lodging itself has yet to be decided, sources said. Certain players? Not all?
  20. That's what I thought when I read it. Would be pretty easy to call a swing or not then, virtually everything would be called no swing if it ever needed to be appealed. Poorly written attempt at a rule there.
  21. How dare you besmirch Buck Martinez' contributions to the Jays catching position. At least he Hall of Fame hair.
  22. Martin was actually a better catcher than Molina. His defense was just as good, offense was better. He just didn't play as long. Both have 55 WAR, Martin did it in 13 seasons, Molina is on his 19th. It's weird how Martin gets nowhere near the respect that Molina does when he's clearly the better of the two catchers.
  23. So who hits the Grand Slam for Boston this inning?
  24. Overrated in that he's a defensive wizard whos offense gets overrated, whereas Jeter was great offensively, and his defense gets overrated.
