    Jays medical staff: Are there any problems at all with the shoulder? Any pain, stiffness? etc? White: No not really, just really trying to get to speed. I feel good. Jays Doctor: Glad you feel that way but there's obviously something still bothering you because youre pitching like s*** so, must be some discomfort still ingering... White: No really, I feel great, just need some more reps *Jays Doctor smacks him in the shoulder with a hammer* How about now? Little bit of pain still I see. Okay, we'll shut you down and keep you from embarrassing the front office a little longer.

    Not the most important league around but the Canadian College World Series is in Lethbridge this long weekend and the Lethbridge hometown team, the Prairie Baseball Academy is the #1 seed. I'll check out a few games and see if there's anyone that stands out. Adam Macko pitched in the league before he was drafted by Seattle and the Jays drafted a few guys out of here in the past, though none of them made it past AA that I'm aware of.

    But they point is we dont know if there were any offers at all on Kirk, of course his name would have come up at some point, but for all we know, other teams either didnt want him at all, or not at the asking price. So the idea of wanting to trade Kirk rather than Moreno is valid, but you cant judge the Varsho/Moreno trade against a decision "not to trade" Kirk. Since a trade of Kirk never happened, we simply cannot know if there was ever a trade containing his name that was even possible, so it's literally pointless to compare what happened to what didnt happen. To be fair, I would rather have traded Kirk too if there was a trade to be done.

    TBH I really don't care if the Jays ever develop a 4th OF. They can be found anywhere and signed for cheap. But your point stands about the OF in general. I think their last OF delveloped internally was Gurriel Jr.

    There's is 0 way to know what Kirk would have got via trade, since no trade happened, so trying to evaluate the Moreno/Varsho trade against a hypothetical is really pointless.

    If clutch was a real thing it would be something that could be duplicated year after year after year, and game after game after game. It's not. People love to point at Ortiz as an example, but he wasnt some otherworldly savant in clutch situations, he just hit like he always hit. Playoffs are nothing but a random bunch of tiny sample sizes. Of all the series he played in, he hit above his career OPS in 9 of them and below his career OPS in 9 of them. Players hit how they hit, they cannot control the situations, nor the narratives that people attach to them after.

    Yeah, there's relaly only 2 times to evaluate a trade - right away in which you analyze the process and the idea behind the trade, and then years later. In a vacuum, 4 years of Varsho is far more valuable than 1 year of Gurriel, not even really close. Whether he signs an extension there or not doesnt factor in. The 6+ years of Moreno is what the real deciding factor will be. But evaluating the process at the time of the trade is simple: top prospect catcher with no power + pending FA outfielder who hasn't been particularly usefull on any side of the ball in 3 years in exchange for a legit defensive outfielder who does everything well except walk, and hits left handed with 4 years of control left = do it. The argument that others are bringing up about whether they should have traded kirk or Jansen instead isnt even relevant.

    It doesnt matter if they traded the "right" catcher. They traded the catcher that Arizona wanted to get the trade done. That makes him the right catcher to trade. Can't analyze a trade saying they should have traded X player instead of Y.

    Whats really interesting is that with his current numbers, he'd still be hitting 6th everyday behind Springer, Bo, Vlad, Chappy and Belt (maybe 5th ahead of Belt...).... but Varsho is pencilled into 3rd and 4th daily

    Dude needs a curve or a change to be a starter, otherwise he'll be in the pen. I dont trust sinker/slider starters unless they have at least 1 other pitch offspeed pitch they can dump in there ~15% of the time.

    I wonder what changed for him in the off-season, he was very underwhelming these past few seasons after a really good high A debut.
