    Depends what a team is looking for. Not saying it’s apples to apples but the trade that pops to mind where it’s an Uber elite player on 3 year cheap contract would be Sale- and he went for legit #1 prospect in baseball plus whenever Kopech was ranked. You’d have to think they’d want at least 1 Top 10-20 guy w/star potential. You got an army of fringe Top 100 dudes in there. Quantity over quality I guess

    Well, in fairness Steamer has him at a .237/.354/.405 line so clearly his value comes mostly on his ability to get on-base rather than hit. Based on projections anyway

    Yeah I think people forget it’s not The Show and they’ll be like, just trade Player X for a good SP. Good SP aren’t available often and when they are, there’s always going to be lots of competition and the chance they like the other teams players more than yours.

    If Jays officials were so poised to shoot down the rumors, there’s prob a last hurdle to get over. If it was just mere formalities or just pending physical, not sure they’d get the big guys to backtrack Still will prob get done though and the original news breaker will still get the boss treatment

    Even if LG isn’t an IF, he’s still there for depth for either Bo or Biggio. So that’s good to have and not some AAAA player that shouldn’t be there

    Idk. Seems they’re going for it. I won’t have an opinion on Brantley deal until the picture is complete with SP... but in any case they’re expecting playoffs and so I doubt $10m is going to dictate a meh player forcing anyone out Either they really like who they get for LG or Teo, or they should move Gri for another bad contract at different position. If they don’t keep him I mean. Hopefully they don’t force a move

    Well, I think we’re getting side tracked from the original purpose which was comparing $ amounts then and now. So if anything Hamilton’s character issues/red flags would’ve driven his contract down As far as who they are as players/people, I totally agree they are apple/oranges

    If you want to be a stickler, you should multiply last year by 2.5 Also, it wouldn’t be fair to not figure in Hamilton’s monster MVP year a few years before his contract.

    Well, Springer is still a bat first player. His D isn’t GG worthy and the fall back on him is he can slide over to CO spot and still produce value 2-3 years from now. If anything, when signing a 31yo CF I’d prefer the bat over the D slightly as the D is the much more likely thing to regress. I’m not saying I don’t love the Soringer signing, just that it’s not so different than Hamilton where Soringer is way more valuable. Easy to use hindsight to judge Hamilton deal
