Yeah, I wasn’t suggesting there wouldn’t be any motivation to distort the truth by the team, it’s just I think most players would really object to that publicly if it wasn’t true. So if he did at the time, goes to a best guess probably. Or a middle area -

Yeah, all you can do is determine probabilities and it would lean towards the GM telling the truth. He risks the player coming back and calling him a liar. The player knows the team wouldn’t toss him under the bus, and he doesn’t come off like an unappreciative d-bag. It’s always easy to revise history when nobody cares if you do -
On the plus side of things, I think it falls well shy of Billy Buckner and Scott Norwood territory. I don’t think his name lives in infamy past a year or so

I actually read most teammates were consoling him but one defensive starter was pissed coming down the tunnel yelling “you can’t touch the f’n QB there” to nobody in particular

I mean the player knew, his teammates knew.. it was just a bang bang thing and it sucks

Yeah, actually just in the NBA the other night there was a big non-call at the end of the game that the NBA had to apologize for. Obviously far, far less at stake but you can’t swallow the whistle. I mean I guess you can have the mindset you’ll let people be physical but if there’s a clear penalty, you have to call it, even if decides the game. Sucks when it happens but you can’t swallow the whistle

You can’t win either way. I think there would have been equal, or louder noise if it didn’t get called. The consensus is pretty much it sucks that a game was decided like that, nobody wants to see that, but it had to be.

It’s another level of commitment for sure. I don’t necessarily think any of the guys are more skilled than other leagues. It’s just a matter of enjoying that format and paying attention to a much deeper roster

The DDL is many years past the prestigious stage. Good to have fond memories though. LOD is simply more time consuming and a different format with 30 teams. Nothing special about it.
