  1. +10000000 especially the first paragraph. It's what I was saying over and over.
  2. On here different=wrong, but ok
  3. Looks like I've disturbed the hivemind pretty badly here by mentioning some conflicting ideas... I'm done for now, but I'm happy to continue debating why Cabrera was better than Trout last year some other time.
  4. No I like baseball and watching it.
  5. Have you given up?
  6. Sure, and you know what the best way to see their skill-sets is? Watching them pitch. Not using FIP. Sometimes we just have to put the calculator down and look at whats going on.
  7. He didn't have bad luck. He sucked. He was throwing meatballs and giving up hard hits all over the place. He wasn't fooling anyone.
  8. Just replace them with robots, that's what these guys want. You bring up a good point though about the foul ball. There's so little separating a swinging strike from a hit that numbers will never be able to 100% predict it.
  9. Do you have anything to say about the debate? Or just dismissing what I'm saying because it doesn't fit the hivemind?
  10. Because that randomness is always there. This is the point I'm trying to make.
  11. What if he had a better catcher who framed the pitches and one of the walks didn't happen? There are endless possibilities and numbers will never be able to completely predict everything. Why don't you go plug numbers into a simulator, thats what you want right? Everything to obey the numbers? Why even play the game? Just look at the ZIPS projections for WAR and give those teams playoff berths.
  12. The majority of people on here seem to live by the first category and completely forget the second. They just predict, and predict and predict until they come up with a new more intense stat to predict for them. And lost in all of this is the actual game and the fact that anything can happen.
  13. This is fun. I always like arguing with the SABR nerds.

  15. FIP doesn't care about hits or runs. You guys put everything into numbers. THIS IS A REAL GAME. Sometimes there's more to it than fancy numbers that take all the human element out of it. Go look at JJs numbers, then watch some highlights.
  16. That's exactly why its useless. A pitcher is never going to be pitching without a team behind him. Whatever, you guys are lost in SABR fantasy land. Come back to reality and watch the game.
  17. Dude, your lost don't try to understand. FIP doesn't take into account many real things in baseball, like hits and runs. HITS AND RUNS. You win by getting RUNS.
  18. We should get robot fielders that are the same for everyteam so we can accurately measure each pitchers effectiveness!!!!!!!!!! If you watched at all JJ was giving up loads of hard hit balls and throwing straight fastballs all year. His FIP looked nice because he gots Kzzz, but he sucked.
  19. But then I guess it doesn't look at hits or runs, which are the most important things in baseball. Like I said, not real.
  20. I'd argue that AVG and HRs are two of the most important stats, if not most important.
  21. Meaningless stats?!?! Oh boy don't tempt me, I'm trying to resist writing an essay, no a book, in rebuttal to this.
  22. Talent=/results. I don't care if a pitcher has a low FIP and xFIP if they can't keep the other team from scoring runs and getting on base. FIP isn't even real, it doesn't take into account things that are a real part of a baseball game. (See Johnson, Josh. He looked terrible and you can tell he was getting beat up, but he still has a low FIP)
  23. here http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/1238-GDT(1-2-3)-Toronto-Blue-Jays-New-York-Yankees-Doubleheader-1-05-amp-7-05-PM-ET/page5
  24. 1. Cabrera did deserve the MVP. He won the freaking triple crown. 2. I guess you think batters should be evaluated on things only they can control. We should judge batters based on identical pitches from a pitching machine and see where they hit it. Stolen bases should be about speed only, cuz thats all they control.
