Rogers isn't going to voluntarily accelerate payment - I don't see why that would make sense. You can assume Tulo will be paid on the original contract's timeline and they have simply released him from his responsibility of playing for Toronto.

I imagine there a number of different strategies that could be deployed, but yeah that's what I was thinking of. Really anything that increases Billy Hamilton's percentage of his playing time spent on the bases and/or in the outfield, and decreases the percentage of his playing time spent at the plate, would raise his value substantially.

No idea. Sounds like we might find out though. I guess the question is - how much would a team commit to Tulo right now if he was a free agent? The answer is probably a very small number.

The comments from Shatkins make perfect sense now. The plan was/is to leverage Tulo's fundamental desire to be a starting SS into him accepting a buyout. Jays will get out of some of the financial commitment and Tulo will get a chance to sign somewhere else (maybe) as a starting SS. Not sure where though.
