  1. Andrew "Chicken" Tendis has huge upside though. Kid is 25 - he could have multiple 6 WAR years; he already has a 4.4 WAR year on his resume while only poking 16 home runs. I can't see Boston ever moving him to save salary.

Meh. That's just a convenient narrative. From what I've read it's more or less impossible to tell who will be a capable NHL goalie. Was riding with Garret Sparks or Michel Hutchinson an unreasonable decision? I doubt it

It's hard for me to understand how a team with Toronto's core could be under .500. It seems like they have, on paper, a really strong top 4 forwards, a good goalie, two strong D. Is the rest of the roster that bad? Do players like Muzzin and Nylander just blow?
  4. Hard to see why a guy like Yoshi would see the Rays as such a good fit. Does he want to just platoon forever and get treated like a strat-o-matic card?
  5. It might not mean much. This regime has done some things to optimize gate revenues - maybe that's all Shi is referring to, the modernized and streamlined business practices of the team. In theory that's more revenue and a slightly higher payroll could be a result but for all we know Rogers will want to just keep to money.
  6. Well there are a lot of options left. Could even sign a RHB like EE or Todd Frazier, or someone who plays a different position like Cesar Hernandez then have Biggio bounce around the field more. Dickerson, Calhoun, Smoak, Avisail Garcia, Souza, Shaw, Maikel Franco, Cron, Domingo, Thames. Zobrist, Bird, Zimmerman, Jerko, Pence.... They need to add a bat though and Yoshi was such a great fit and a nice mix of upside and low cost.
  7. That's f***ing awful. Too bad. Toronto better end up with a viable LHB for a better deal than that.
  8. Not to mention Mark Buehrle who was in the same rotation. One guy throws 86 and gets outs - amazing television! The other guy throws a 79 mph knuckler and gets outs - horrible to watch!
  9. They are trying to improve the team. It's a noble goal, you complete and utter coward. "let someone else take the risk!" said the spineless worm.
  10. The 2015 Blue Jays rotation was an amazing group of shitballers.
  11. Yes And I don't think it's a big overpay. Jordan Lyles got 2/16 and his career best season is 1.6 fWAR
  12. Man, that's a tough trigger to pull even if the value is there in the trade. Catchers are so tough to project.
  13. Toronto is really getting sad with their hashtags. 2015 #ComeTogether 2016 #OurMoment 2017 #LetsRise 2018 #BlueJays 2019 #LetsGoBlueJays 2020 #NotCompetingThisYearBob
  14. Yes Bob, I'm sure Mark and Ross are putting this on the whiteboards.
  15. This is probably a good sign. Hopefully they fill out the 26 man roster with FA signings and trade acquisitions rather than crummy rule 5 players like Luciano. I think they need to replace: - Borucki (1 option) with a SP - Alford (no options, cut him) with a decent player who can play CF - Tellez (1 option) with a better bat who can play 1B and maybe an OF corner - Urena (no options, cut him) with a better bench MIF option - 2 or 3 of SRF, Pannone, Gaviglio, Romano, Waguespack (all have options) with better relievers Some of the above could be accomplished without directly replacing the player but by signing adequate veteran MiLB depth like Sogard last year.
  16. Wow, Davidi says Toronto was pursuing Moustakas with a level of interest that actually saw Atkins and Montoyo visit Moose at his home. They must really want a good LHB.
  17. I feel like it's just better to give his potential playing time to guys like Teoscar or Fisher, rather than run some science experiment on 29/30 year old Billy Hamilton to see if he can slapdick his way to 2 WAR again.
  18. Wow, Atkins actually said something with some juice that wasn't completely vapid. Pulled back the curtain as much as they ever do. Ben Nicholson-Smith @bnicholsonsmith #BlueJays are looking at outfielders, but not fringe guys. Atkins: "We'd be very open to adding in CF as long as it's a significant upgrade."
  19. Lindblom’s deal can double to $18M based on incentives
  20. Fuuuuuuuck yer a idiot
  21. Lindblom's deal can actually max out at over $18M with performance bonuses.
  22. Lindblom is from Lafayette which is like 3.5 hours by car from Milwaukee. Hard to compete with that proximity when the player is a 32 year old coming back from five seasons in Korea; he probably thinks about this as coming "home". I don't doubt that Toronto offered more money and he just didn't think it was worth it. He probably made several million dollars over the last few seasons in Korea so it's not like he's destitute. I wanted Lindblom more than anybody and I am heartbroken and don't think I'll ever get over him but it is what it is. Tanner Roark is a fine addition. They needed someone like him. I don't care about it being a slight overpay perhaps on paper.
  23. He has the tools to be as good as say peak JA Happ but I don't think he'll get there and he shouldn't be that good in Milwaukee. I don't know if I'll even keep the reliever though.
  24. Alford and McKinney don't really factor into my projected 26 man roster. McKinney still has an option. I think Fisher is a good fit for a bench spot. Teoscar and Calhoun could split time in a corner and through DH; they are complement each other with the handedness. The defense also helps the fit because Calhoun can replace Teoscar in the OF if Teoscar has started and Calhoun would be a huge defensive upgrade. I think Teoscar has an option too, actually? It seems kind of obvious at this point that Toronto wants a LHB that can fit in at OF/1B. Yoshi is my preference. I think (hope?) we'll see Toronto run 6 or 7 players at any given time through the outfield spots and 1B and DH. Kind of a Rays roster construction where the little things like platoon advantage and defensive switches are always taken advantage of.
  25. Trollosi caveats aside, when Toronto is reported to be competing for a player against CIN, MIA, and MIL, you have to like Toronto's chances of getting the guy if they actually want him. Calhoun was good enough last year and has been average or better his entire career, save for 2018. He's probably a projectable 1-2 WAR upgrade on the current roster if they then line up the OF Gurriel-Grichuk-Calhoun. He's not an addition to sneeze at and I'd certainly f***ing take it. Did you guys know that Brito, Fisher, Drury, Hanson, Pillar, Urena, Davis, and Alford with Toronto combined for like negative 3 wins last year?
