  1. Wow, massive improvement now. It will be very interesting to see how this new body affects everything. It's clear he has mostly been on a weight loss program, so it's possible he has lost some strength along with the fat. Sprint speed up? Launch angle up? Top end power down? The 3B position is awkward now. They might give thin Vlad one last chance at it with his new body. But they need quality insurance at the position if they do.
  2. No. Learn to read. I said pretty clearly you shouldn't compare the two
  3. The 2 extra years probably don't matter because there is a 90% chance DJL is washed up by then. It's a fair contract. There are morons in this thread acting like the Yankees got him for a song though, and I'm worried someone like saskjaysfan might hurt himself this evening.
  4. If you want to force a comp for DJL you use someone like Jose Bautista - another guy who had something really click later in their career. Jays were wise to never give Bautista his mega-extension and his last good year ended up being his age 34 season. Decent chance the Yankees are paying $90M for ~3 more good years from DJ and the Yankees know it. If they get lucky he's still useful once his skills start to erode but he is a slapdick player so he might just pull a hard Daniel Murphy and cease being good at like 33. Please recognize this you f***ing idiots.
  5. Honestly wtf are you even talking about DJ got less guaranteed money than an older player who had a far superior track record but recent injury problems. Why is it even a comparison? Very different players and circumstances "On pace" for an 8 win season doesn't mean much from 2020
  6. Josh Donaldson is/was better... like, way better for a long time. Not sure if you remember this but he won the MVP and had an 8 WAR season and stuff.
  7. Because they are stupid
  8. We don't know if they even really wanted most of these players. It's not "coming in 2nd" if you only have a passing interest and then agents decide to pretend you are #2 to increase demand for their client.
  9. Last time the Jays got in there quick they got stuck with Kendrys Morales
  10. The market has barely happened. If some players are going to end up signing surprisingly cheap deals those will happen at the very end of the offseason, anyway.
  11. The offseason isn't over, lol.
  12. The years are kind of irrelevant on some of these guys. You assume they will be dead money before the end of the deal. Kind of misleading to even look at the AAV. $90M is more than people thought DJL would get at the outset of the offseason so even if Toronto only offered $78M I'm happy that someone bid the Yankees up.
  13. Kluber is just going to pick the best "fit" so the team would need to convince him in non-monetary ways. I assume most teams will be willing to pay him a fair one year salary. Ross Atkins was the director of player development when Cleveland acquired and developed Kluber so maybe there is something there... It's not clear if Paxton wants a $12M pillow contract of if he is trying to max out the years? If Tanaka wants $15M he might settle for a bit less...
  14. It was also be in January in 2022, but after that it's up in the air.
  15. It's funny how these guys don't even try to hide the fact that they have deals in place anymore. Beltre wears Jays gear all the time: His little brother Emmanuel Beltre is already in Jays gear too
  16. Last BA preview the Jays were expected to sign Beltre and one other player in the top ~50. It looks like about half of their money will end up with Beltre, but it could be even more. 10 Manuel Beltre Manuel Beltre Dominican RepublicSS Notes: Born: June 9, 2004. B-T: R-R. Ht.: 5-11. Wt.: 165. Report: One of the best hitters in the class, Beltre is a baseball rat who has spent years documenting his path to professional baseball on his social media accounts, sharing his daily training and highlights on his Instagram account of more than 60,000 followers. Beltre has a short, simple swing, performing well in games with a high contact rate, good feel for the strike zone and gap power. Beltre isn't as tooled-up as some of the other top prospects in the class, but he has a ton of game experience relative to his peers and it's evident in his all-around instincts and fundamentally sound play. Beltre, who trains trains with Jaime Ramos, is expected to sign with the Blue Jays. (they don't mention a bonus but the #8 player is expected to sign for $2.5M and a few players below Beltre are expected to sign for $2M) 39 Last: 38 Martín Giménez Headshot Martin Gimenez VenezuelaSS Notes: Born: Feb. 15, 2004. B-T: R-R. Ht.: 6-3. Wt.: 160. Report: Gimenez and Wilman Diaz, one of the top shortstops in this class, train together with Alexi Quiroz. Gimenez has a long, lanky build with plenty of room to pack on weight. He has a chance to develop into a power bat once he fills out, with some scouts praising his swing and approach, though others said he's still learning to recognize breaking pitches. Gimenez has a strong arm for the left side of the infield and it should grade up as he fills out, with a good chance he ends up at third base or possibly an outfield corner as he gets bigger. The Blue Jays are expected to sign Gimenez.
  17. Yeah those older guys were being abused. It was back-to-back outings, not enough days off in between multi-inning outings, etc. The modern approach is more gentle. There are also more advanced ways to measure pitcher fatigue.
  18. Montgomery better but they are both low-end options in a 20 team league.

The all Canada division should be permanent.
  22. I only picked him up because I have the other Chicago goalie. One of them might be okay. Subban probably sucks
  23. So Springer's market right now is down to Toronto and maybe the Blue Jays. Hmmm.
  24. That's a weird one for me. Baez was not very good under the hood last year. Astros are not the team I would expect to give him two years. Might be worse than AJ Cole?
  25. I never said I was smart Other people say that but not me I'm just here to bloviate
