    I feel like more would be on the table. 2/$24M was the Mitch Garver deal this offseason and he was also a C who never put up playing time, and looked more like a 33 year old DH. Maybe same AAV with couple more years though? There are not really any comps I can find in the last 5 years in free agency.

    Kikuchi went through a lot of anguish in Seattle and in his first year in Toronto. Since the start of 2023 he has probably felt the best and happiest he ever has, as an MLB pitcher. Have to think he would take SOME sort of hometown discount. He is also 33 in two months so a big contract is probably not on the table for him, especially with his track record being spotty. The comps from last year would be Sonny Gray and Seth Lugo, I think. Two 34 year olds coming off of good years wire to wire, and projecting decetly. 3/$75M for Sonny Gray 3/$45M for Lugo In both instances the signing team was aggressive. Stroman last year is sort of a comp but he had such a brutal second half in 2023.

    The RP need part of the story isn't even that relevant Toronto probably just didn't see Teoscar as having much surplus value on his projected arb 3 money so they dealt him for whatever and then made the value signing of KK with the budget Funny enough, if Toronto decides they don't want Vlad's final arbitration year we could see a similar thing play out. 2025 - Vlad traded for a reliever and a B prospect because his $23M projected arb salary is gross. Toronto uses part of the money to sign some 1 year replacement... maybe a late 30s guy like Rizzo, JDM, or Goldschmidt or another one of these year-to-year DH types like Pederson. Vlad scuffles in his new scenery because low IQ but there is still endless talk about "trading Vladdy for a reliever." 2026 - Vlad signs a pillow contract in a big market and hits 50 homers. The reliever Toronto got for him in 2025 loses 2 mph on his fastball before 2026 and has his ring finger amputated due to chagas.

    No man you don't get it, the Teoscar trade was bad because.... uhhh the Jays thought they were the Rays and uhh.... He's having a good year now in LA and hmmmm.... Toronto probably didn't even try to sign him as a free agent and errrrrr... defensive WAR is fake and the third wild card is for liberals and I'm quitting all my dynasty leagues!!!

    But Hunter Mense is the guy who actually has instagram and stuff. I think his handle is "dodamagehitting" or something that would make you think he is somewhat modern in thought. And he had like 6 years between the end of his pro career and the beginning of his coaching career, to maybe look at a computer or something. Matt Hague went straight from playing to coaching and was only in the Jays system as a coach since 2020. Also, Mense is a twig which makes me think he is more of a nerd whereas Hague is beefier and he has a pronounced jawline, more neanderthal

    Yes, the wins have been huge. The Semien and Gausman hits far outweigh the bad signings. But neither of those are nearly as good as getting 5/6 cheap years out of an all star youngster.

    One of those guys who was prevented from being good by an inexplicable lack of defensive instincts. That's a fairly common problem, you see it today with guys like Jarren Duran. Makes you wonder what exactly goes into things like "defensive instincts" and reads and "first step" It's not experience, really, because some guys like Varsho never play the OF and are just naturally elite at all that It must just be something in the brain, at the lizard brain level, just a natural ability to perceive and react. Some brain computers work better than others.

    Yeah I think Bo's issue is 100% approach He thinks he's Derek Jeter but the tools aren't an exact match and even Jeter pulled the ball more than this version of Bichette It's incredibly simple, really. He has the hit tool / bat speed / raw pop to be an easy .260 / 30 hitter annually and with enough hard hit balls and some luck he could still be the .300 hitter he dreams of being, sometimes. He should be modeling his game on Manny Machado, not Derek flipping Jeter This is a positive post because we have identified Manny Machado as a better role model and maybe the next hitting coach will see this and run with it
